Physiques are simply just another element that is used to determine wow factor, just like the face is an element. Try to avoid looking solely at celebrities but more the average person on the street. Average folks are much more likely to see other average folks day to day than celebrities, yes...?

They are both elements, but the face always wins out when dealing with women. Men are more concerned with looking muscular and compare against one another.

What are you talking about? We always see celebrities in print/commercial material. These people are the ones who carry the current standard for human beauty.

If you wanted to go with average people, not a lot of men will be able to attain the ideal just like a lot of women don't. Beauty is still very rare.

A jacked physique can over compensate for a below average/average face but social status can do way more.

Because it's true. Not all girls have frizzy hair. Some girls have straight hair and don't have to do anything.

How SURE are you about this? Have you spoken to any of the girls with nice sleek straight hair? Because EVERY single girl with such hair that I know of (like http://img395.imageshack.us/i/img1356uk8.jpg/) has either had it chemically straightened, or uses a hair iron, or at least spends a LOT of time blowdrying and styling in the morning. And uses lots of hair care products including serum, mask, and conditioner. I don't know a single soul who gets that sort of hair just from normal washing and combing, and I bet they're incredibly rare if they do exist.

1. it actually is (Scarlett).

2. They're not muscly but lean. No don't go on, god knows as to why you included Daniel Craig......

3. As an example Brad Pitt was not jacked in fight club, he was under 160lbs, which is quite skinny for a man his height. Decaprio and Depp are both lean too. Depp and Decaprio would not be marketable with attitudes only. Film is mostly about body/face language and good looking people are better accepted in playing the lead role i.e what is beautiful is good.

1. Her face is nice, but to say that's her main feature is beyond laughable. Look at this pic:

Scarlett Picture

Her face, sure it is.

2. They are not muscular? I'm starting to think you're just a devil's advocate.

3. Brad Pitt was 100% jacked in fight club

Flight club image

You have a strange definition of muscular. Only steroids could him bigger.

Depp as a nice guy, free of drugs and problems is not marketable. Same as Decaprio. They are bad boys, they get into trouble, and they don't care. Sounds like young, attractive girls screaming in glee to me. Those kind of guys don't need beauty.

My sister and my mom don't. Sure I know girls that have to go through that crap, but I also know others (to my knowledge) that don't. I don't exactly go around asking them about how they take care of their hair. I'm trying to attract them, not repeal them.

Then don't claim what you don't know. Us girls actually talk about it among ourselves. I don't try to claim that guys shouldn't complain about needing to shave cause my ex bf didn't, do I? ;)

Sorry, but this part just made me laugh. Johnny Depp and Leonardo DiCaprio have beautiful faces and talent, that's their big appeal. Last time I checked, Depp has been basically a nice guy for quite some time, settled down with one woman for many years, a doting family man to his little kids, definitely not trashing any hotels. His career and sex appeal are not hurting any so I guess he's still pretty marketable. And wasn't DiCaprio his most popular, making the most girls swoon back in his Titanic days, when he was all fresh faced innocent and nobody knew about his lame posse or his modelizing?

1. Then you are on dumb diets, get off them. Eat clean, healthy food, stay away from fast food as much as possible, drink water. Eat all the broccoli, carrots, leaf lettuce (not iceberg), baked chicken, you want. You will be stuffed, not hungry.

You've never been on a real diet like girls have to go on. If you're not hungry, you're not losing weight. You can not eat until you are stuffed. Just like if you want to gain weight to gain muscle, you can not stop eating just because you are stuffed.

2. You're being silly, I never said that. Women have lots of pressure, but this thread regards beauty and the difficulty in obtaining it.
Yes, you did. Whenever I say anything about women having higher standards in beauty, you say men have higher standards in that area and everywhere else and start listing all the various reasons that have nothing to do with beauty.

3. They expect it yes, but they will settle if they can't land a guy like that. There are lots of articles on the recent attitudes of women and promiscuity. The more sexual partners a woman has, the more she wants the best (most attractive) males.
So then all women are promiscuous then? Because you said before that the average girl wants a very hot man and the average man is okay with an average girl.

4. None of that has anything to do with beauty.
I listed them in response to you listing a bunch of things that had nothing to do with beauty.

5. It's the same for guys. Short guys who have good attitudes and are nice are nowhere near guys that are tall and muscular in society. They can use money to help them trumph muscle and height, but it's still very difficult. Society views tall males as more acceptable. I'm 6'0 so I don't have to worry about it, but I have seen it and it's cruel and unfair.
And a girl with a pretty face and big boobs will get more as well.

6. That's not how it works unless you're talking to a guy who's trying to get into your pants. In every other scenario people are usually going to be honest. What I have read from guys in this thread is brutally honest. When I fall for a girl it's because of who she is as a package (religion, looks, intelligence, politics, personality), but this thread is talking about what society demands. And society demands that girls be fit/slim and guys be muscular to attract members of the opposite sex (not a particular one).
If you want to know what society demands from women and that's all we are talking about, then it's more. All you have to do to know what society as a whole thinks is look at celebrities and magazines. If I want to fit to that standard, I have to starve myself, get plastic surgery (I'd rather work out all the time), have a personal trainer and work out all the time, stay tanned, wear a bunch of make-up, pluck every hair on my body, do my hair every day, so on and so forth.

The biggest joke played in the diet realm is the idea that you need to drastically cut calories to lose weight. The way to do it is NOT to drastically cut calories. Because your body will notice, and will put you in starvation mode..meaning it will hold on to fat and not let go regardless of what you do. It's the way it has evolved, it notices a food shortage and drastically cuts your metabolism.

The best bet is to cut calories by a small percentage (10-15%) and burn the fat off, and build the muscle through exercise. Also to eat every 3 hours, so lipogenesis is kept to a minimum.

Unfortunately, you have been terribly misinformed...starving yourself is probably one of the worst methods to losing weight...and one that is often employed by those who are too lazy to exert physical effort in exercise...the "real diet" you are speaking of is nonsense propogated by popular culture and media to slowly achieve a waifish thin physique that is rather repulsive...

I have a feeling that most women wouldn't be able to deal with eating only what I eat on a daily basis for very long...and it's not a lot...as sage said, it's not just how much you eat, but it's what you eat...it's not going to do a person much of good to starve herself because she couldn't give up the po-tater chips...

You exercise to speed up your metabolism so that it doesn't matter or do you not know how metabolism works?

You guys are mixing up regular diets with crash diets. Regular diets you will be very hungry during. If it was that easy everyone would be able to do it. It's a struggle.

I do not crash diet. Crash diets don't work, not because it slows down your metabolism but because it doesn't teach you healthy alternatives to eating and you eventually "crash" and go back to the way you ate before and don't learn new healthy habits.

But if you are dieting to lose weight, you will be hunger. The reason your body burns away the fat is because it's not getting enough calories to burn up all the energy you are using. When you don't have enough of that you get hungry. This is why you exercise to keep your body burning energy.

Seriously if you want to be skinny eat 4-5 small meals a day making the earlier meals the heavier ones. Drink a good amount of water and make it the only thing you drink. Avoid all processed foods and bread.

This easy advice above alone would make most women VERY THIN on as many as 2000 calories if they were around 5'5 and walked around for atleast 30 minutes a day.

My gf looks so hot and she litteraly does nothing. She doesn't eat fast food and she doesn't over eat are about the only things she does. Her ass looks great... her waist is so small. Perfect

Depp is the master of a "change me" bad boy type guy. Depp is a great many things, but a nice guy is just not one of them. His sex appeal is his attitude/behavior. If he were a choir boy with his looks, he would be lucky to be in B movies that flop.

I'm not familiar with DiCaprio ever being anything but a bad boy as a person.

Metabolism is the rate at which your body conducts chemical reactions.

Muscle burns fat, because it is metabolically active.

If your body notices a drastic decrease in food, then the rate of metabo will drastically increase= survival mode.

Regular diets are just as much of a joke as crash diets. You will eventually cave in on both, on top of that, you will be deathly miserable.

A slight calorie shortage is required to lose fat. This is a fact, due to the law of calorie balance.

Build muscle, add cardio, and eat often. Your metabo will spike, and as a result, the rate of fat loss will spike. Muscle burns fat, cardio burns fat, eating often keeps fat genesis in check.

You will not get toned any other way. This is an absolute guarantee.

Women can not eat 2,000 calories a day. A woman who ate that much would be 160-180 pounds, depending on how much she exercised.

If I want to be 120 pounds, I have to exercise regularly and eat only 1,200 calories a day, even though I am young. I've done this math before.

Women are also made of a lot of fat compared to men. Having testosterone means your body easily makes muscle. Because women are mostly able to just produce fat, a woman of your same height and weight will not be able to eat as much as you and will need to exercise more to maintain that weight.

Okay?

Is your argument that I won't be hungry doing all this? Because I still will and that's what the argument was about. I'll still be starving.

Uh...caloric consumption plays a bigger role in metabolism...as well as the type of calories consumed...

I don't know. What kind of diets were you assuming that I was talking about?

Because you went on and on about how I was on these crazy diets that don't work and are very extreme.

You seem to think that hungry = crazy extreme diet.

And I disagree. You're not losing weight if you're not hungry.

But just because you're hungry, it doesn't mean you're only eating one carrot a day and nothing else.

haha, until you try it, you'll be surprised. I feel super. Remember I said, a small percentage.

I take in about 2800 a day for fat loss, my maintenance level is around 3100. That's only a 300 cal reduction. What makes it fun is that you eat 6 times a day, that's about 500 cal a meal every 3 hrs so hunger just never becomes an issue. The meals are also a good balance of protein, carb, fat. By the time I get hungry, it's time to eat once again! Chea. You would be surprised at the feeling of eating more often. I've never had so much energy in my life.

Can't knock the system 'till ya try it.;)

And this is where strategy comes into play where you select foods that are very satiating, yet lower in calories...fibrous foods and protein fit that description nicely...you can consume fewer calories and still feel full and not always be hungry...

And how much weight have you lost exactly and how long have you been on this diet?

Here's where things get fun.

I haven't loss much weight (3 lbs), but I'm a lot leaner.

Weight is a combination of Lean muscle (good) and fat (bad). The mistake is made when we focus our attention solely on weight loss, because that means burning muscle along with fat, which is bad, because muscle burns calories. We need this in sufficient amounts to aid us!

Don't worry about what the scale says, but what you look like in the mirror, because that's what shows. Focus on burning fat, and keeping/developing as much muscle as possible along with a cardio routine. The scale should only serve as a use for helping you calculate the amount of lean muscle you've gained/maintained and the amount of fat that has been burned.

You will never hear this in popular books/magazines/supplement companies, because that's how they make their money..on misinformation.

Posted
Your math is wrong. Especialy if you stay away from processed foods and bread and drinks other then water.

Okay, then show me the "right" math.

You do know why you should only drink water right? So that you're consuming less calories. Eating more calories to make up for the calories that you aren't drinking isn't going to make you lose weight.

Also, you don't eat process foods and breads so that your body doesn't burn your food as fast.

These aren't magical cures to losing weight. If you eat too many calories and do all these things, then you'll still be fat.

Anyway, I never drink anything except water. I've been doing that a long time.
