Referring to content in past threads?

LoveShack.org guidelines of interaction state that members shall discuss topics in their current context, though opinions may be formed regarding the topic starter based upon past postings.

Moderation has had guidance in this area published for a few years in our Infidelity areas, since those areas seem to be the most common location of members ignoring this guideline. Link to thread:

Am I posting in the right forum? Read here![Update July 30, 2013]

For clarity, if wishing to offer opinion about or ask questions related to relevant content of past threads or posts from a thread starter, this is the policy.

1. Review the content for relevance to the current topic of discussion and make sure it is relevant.

2. Quote the content directly using our quote function, preferably the function which automatically links to the content.

3. Link to the content, either through the quote function or with a link to the thread the content is published in.

This ensures accuracy of content, directs readers to that content and provides easy verification of the content.

If this sounds like too much work, that's fine. If so, then the site owner's default guideline controls. Discuss the current topic and the past is irrelevant and shall not be discussed.

Thanks for reading!

Loveshack.org policy on multiple usernames and accounts

Since LoveShack.org has long been populated with individuals who use multiple accounts to post here, moderation came up with a unified policy regarding their registration and use which respects the past as well as the prime directive to discuss interpersonal relationships in a collaborative and respectful manner.

They are as follows:

1. No making/using multiple accounts to circumvent moderation or suspension. This applies regardless of type of moderation or suspension. If a post or forum access attempt results in anything other than free access or success, you're moderated or suspended and no method of circumventing that is allowed. This applies regardless of moderation 'points' applied to your account(s).

The *only* exception is where moderation has determined that an account is being auto-moderated by our forum software for unknown reasons and we're working with the member to gain free posting privileges which they should otherwise have. Use of a duplicate account with different registration and access means may be suggested.

2. You are not allowed to use multiple accounts to post on the same thread, regardless of the position of those accounts in the thread.

3. Trolling with duplicate accounts is prohibited. An example would be registering duplicate accounts to post as different genders, races or religions, or posting the same questions/scenarios from different accounts.

4. You must be an established or supporting member to have multiple accounts. This is noted under your username as shown on the forum. If it doesn't say established or supporting, no duplicate accounts are allowed.

5. If you are a previously banned member, you may not have an account...period.

Violation of the policy leaves all accounts subject to ban at moderation's discretion. Conforming content will generally be retained. We appreciate your cooperation with this policy.

If you think a post or thread is a troll....

LoveShack.org policy is that all postings suspected of violating our guidelines, and postings known as 'trolling', which are postings intended to provoke an emotional reaction are included, shall be reported to moderation via the 'alert us' link which exists at lower right on every post on our forum.

Why report? All moderators can see the report and it gets rid of the troll more quickly, if we confirm the report.

Please *do not* go on threads and call other members trolls or suggest, by any means, that they are trolling *or argue for or against trolling accusations or in any way discuss trolling*. That's a civility and respect violation and, additionally, your posts will be reviewed for a minimum of three days and you'll lose private message privileges. Just don't do it. Report it and either respond to the topical material in accordance with our guidelines or move on.

This removes the trolls more quickly and efficiently and preserves everyone's posting privileges and the topical content of our forums.

Thanks in advance for your cooperation!

*clarified since the common sense approach apparently failed*

Site-wide individual and group berating policy

LoveShack guidelines of discussion proscribe that all members are to be civil and respectful in their discussion of topics on our forum and, due to member requests, we've examined this guideline in more detail and also the language reminder the owner has provided us with:

Language & decency: Use language that not only reflects proper terminology, but that is in no way vulgar, profane, obscene, pornographic, demeaning, or pejorative to the subject being described or those contributing to the discussion

So far, we've been making announcements of this policy on a thread by thread basis and moderating members in those threads; now the policy is published and applies site-wide.

Hence, words and phrases which moderation deems to be bashing/berating (the latter being the official term moving forward) language of individuals and groups, whether that be LoveShack members or similar in the larger world, shall be prohibited and subject to sanction based on our language guidelines.

The most common bashing/berating language occurs when bashing/berating:
  • Race
  • Religion
  • Gender
Those will be the areas we'll focus on first. If there's any doubt, use a word or phrase which complies with the published guidelines.

Also, LoveShack.org is a site to discuss interpersonal relationships, so threads about such policies or words or phrases will be removed and their authors subject to sanction. For those members who wish clarifications or to read the moderation-led discussion on this policy, please see the discussion thread in Questions and Comments linked below:

Discussion: Site-wide individual and group berating policy

The goal is to provide a forum which is friendly to all visitors who wish to discuss their interpersonal relationships in a civil and collaborative manner.

This policy is effective immediately as of 10am EDT 9/4/2015 and we'll handle threads posted prior on a case by case basis. If in doubt, even if a post you're responding to has suspected non-conforming language, don't respond with similar language simply because it's there. Report it to moderation and respond in a conforming manner.

If you'd like a post/thread edited or deleted or are wondering why moderation edited/deleted your post/thread, read here ->

"Moderator, can you delete/edit my thread/post/username?"

Moderation gets this request often! Before reporting your post/thread/username and asking us to edit/delete it, read this thread first:

How are posts/threads edited/deleted? How is a username changed/deleted?

It outlines official LoveShack policy and, as applicable, the processes pertaining to both post/thread deletion/editing, as well as changes/deletions of accounts. Your answers are in there!

"Moderator, why was my post/thread edited/deleted?"

To answer this question, I found an old thread where our site owner and head moderator both weigh in and give excellent explanations regarding this function of moderation on our forum.

Posting to engage rather than preach

Thanks!
