Gero Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 My brother is obsessed with organic foods and all of that stuff. I just eat regular fruits and vegetables and other stuff. I am and have been healthier than him for years. He gets sick constantly while I only get sick once or twice a year.
Author Green Posted July 11, 2010 Author Posted July 11, 2010 @Green: If you want to pay more for no reason, that's fine with me, go ahead. Do it right now, but personally, I don't think that's a good enough reason for more of my money to be taken away from me. Also, I don't think that will stop fat people from being fat. The reason our country isn't like other countries where people are starving to death is because food is cheap and available to us. I don't think we should try to get closer in the direction of those countries. Look I'm not comparing our country to unstable nations WHO STARVE PEOPLE ON PURPOSE. I think healthy food should cost less then JUNK. If you don't understand that concept GOOD FOR YOU. Also if you Think FAT is an attractive healthy choice and don't understand how it drives up the cost of everything then I think you are blind. Well I was always led to believe that organic food retains more nutrients and nourishment but as I said, i'm not well-researched on the matter. I know squat about food other than what I like eating. Organic food is often less proccessed then non organic food so in that way it is healthier. Like I like organic humus compared to the regular because it has no chemicals in it. also if Organic fruits and vegatables try to keep chemicals off as oposed to to non organic which spray chemicals. My brother is obsessed with organic foods and all of that stuff. I just eat regular fruits and vegetables and other stuff. I am and have been healthier than him for years. He gets sick constantly while I only get sick once or twice a year. Eating healthy only gaurantees that the individual person will be at their best. You just might be a healthier indiviual then your bros. I've seen plenty of guys who eat mostly junk food and some how are in good shape... doesn't mean that the junk food got them that way.
Jilly Bean Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 What does any of this have to do with dating? Shouldn't this be in the rants section? And why DO so many people start threads in the dating section that have nothing to do with dating? Anyone else notice that?
Author Green Posted July 11, 2010 Author Posted July 11, 2010 What does any of this have to do with dating? Shouldn't this be in the rants section? And why DO so many people start threads in the dating section that have nothing to do with dating? Anyone else notice that? Because I think FAT people are undateable. And a lot of the dating advice I hear people give is "get in shape" My thread is about "Don't Blame Fat People" Since when did you become the thread police?
lso802 Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Well, I went on a date with someone who is on the heavy side. She kept talking about it and pretty much just disqualifying myself to me. During the date, I was talking about a movie I wanted to see. When I walked her to the metro after having lunch together, she assumed I wanted to end the date. The thing is we had only scheduled to meet up for lunch. I had NO IDEA she thought we were going to go see a movie, too. She thought I was rejecting her after I saw her and was just being polite or something. I liked chatting with her online. We met through a Yahoo Group sharing a similar interest and decided to meet up. After that experience, I try to stay away from people who are extremely insecure about themselves whether they're overweight or not.
Art_Critic Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 So yes fat people do have some control. But we are all to blame. I don't believe that I share in the blame for someone who has a weight issue. I happen to have had McDonald's for lunch today with my kid.. Then at home a coke and some Dove Dark Chocolate.. When I weighed myself this morning I was 149lbs.. I'm 5'9" and 47 years old. I do eat better than that though most days but still I'm not to blame for the reason someone is overweight be it a medical reason or a food addiction or just bad upbringing. I will say though my little boy gets everything in low or no sugar/sucrose so we don't build a child that has a weight issue in the future. With me being an sober alcoholic I have a pre-disposition to a sugar addiction.. hence my Chocolate use.. I have read a cool book called Potatoes not Prozac.. dealing with sugar addiction.. a great book...
USMCHokie Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 It's actually significantly cheaper for me to eat "healthy" than it is for me to go out to McD's three times a day...but I don't buy into the whole organic food nonsense, so I don't pay that premium for marketed bullsh*t... Again, it's the choices that people make...primarily for convenience...and the tastiness of a delicious Big Mac, Coke, and fries...
Gold Pile Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Honestly, I don't get people's obsession with dating only thin people. Personality is important to me and my attraction is solely based off of that. Of course, people say that personality isn't the first thing you see when you meet someone, but it is to a degree and certain personality traits that shine through immediately can attract me to someone or make me feel repulsed right off the bat.. Being lazy and being a glutton are two repulsive personality traits. And fat looks bad too.
Gold Pile Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Lets not make excuses for fat people. I'm far from poor, but my weekly food budget is $40. (unless I go out on a date) My food choices are not perfect but lean to the healthy side. I have access to the same food choices as fat people, but I choose wiser and exercise. Poor people on tax payer assistance spend more than $40. And why do you think all fat people are poor?, plenty of rich slobs around. I'm sitting at the computer now with no food, fatties are shoveling in junk as they read this.
LucreziaBorgia Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 I do a good deal of my shopping at the local farmers markets here in town. The fresh eggs, produce, etc. are super cheap compared to the grocery store and they taste much, much better. Unfortunately, you don't see obese poor people shopping at the farmers market where you can get multiple bags of food for under ten dollars - you see them waddling around at Wal Mart buying 'tastier' junk food. At this point, where I live - it is no longer a forced economical choice to buy unhealthy food because this is a very agricultural area. It is a choice based on how much better starch, fat and chemicals taste to people. Me? I scrape by, and I shop at the farmers market down the road from my house because it is really cheap, and because it is really good. It is far cheaper to buy fresh produce, fresh eggs, etc - but if you were to round up obese poor people in my town and give them a choice between equal pounds of fresh fruit, produce and eggs - and prefab chemical junk, nearly all would buy junk. Why? Because they like how it tastes, it doesn't require a lot of preparation, and their kids prefer it. The people I see buying at the farmers market are generally more affluent, and hardly anyone is obese in the same way that you see at WalMart. I guess it is getting to opposite point of where it was post war: the poor then were the lean ones eating out of home grown gardens and chicken yards and relying on local farms for their sustenance, while the rich were buying in the new brightly lit supermarkets. Now, it is generally the more well off you see browsing the farmers markets and the less well off shopping at big bargain box stores.
brainygirl Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Interesting . . . . . . I think there are lots of things that play a role in body type. A big one is diet and excercise. People used to work hard from the time they got up to the time they went to sleep, when our life styles changed, our diets didn't. At the same time industrialization has lead to more refined foods, cheaper sources of empty calories, and chemical additives that enhance flavor, and some people think increase addictivness of the food. I also think that there are genetic predispositions to weight. I just look at my sons. All three play hard all the time. But the oldest is always moving and you can barely get him to slow down to eat. He's slightly underweight, weighing 70 pounds at 11 and a half years old. His doctor has me fix him foods with extra calories hidden in them to put weight on him. At the same time my youngest is three and . . . plump. He plays hard too, but he likes to eat and will ask for seconds and I find myself having to chase him out of the kitchen because he will go in there and just cruise around looking for something to eat. They are both fed the same diet. They both live in a house where very little "junk" is purchased. Snack foods are fresh fruits, veggies, and sugar free yogurt. Me, their mom, I'm on the heavy side. I don't know how many men find me repulsive because the vast majority won't come up to you and tell you that you are so fat you should leave. I do know that when I want to date, I usually don't have to work very hard to find one. I also know that there is more to picking a mate than how they look at the moment.
sweetjasmine Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 It's actually significantly cheaper for me to eat "healthy" than it is for me to go out to McD's three times a day...but I don't buy into the whole organic food nonsense, so I don't pay that premium for marketed bullsh*t... Again, it's the choices that people make...primarily for convenience...and the tastiness of a delicious Big Mac, Coke, and fries... Yup, it usually is significantly cheaper to make your own food. I could make a stew to feed 4 people for less than $10. Feeding 4 people at McDonald's would cost a lot more. But one of the issues is that people work so many hours and are so drained that convenience trumps driving to the supermarket and spending ~2 hours making dinner after a long day at work. I find that when I'm exhausted and don't have any leftovers, I just resort to eating out.
sarah1268 Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Im probably gonna get slammed for this, but I am completely disgusted by fat people. Not just because of how they look, but the mentality that comes with it, being greedy, having a lack of self control and of course lack of self respect. Now obviously there are medical conditions that people can’t control, and fair enough. But people who just get to comfortable with their lifestyles and partners who let themselves go are disgusting. []And I’m sick of them blaming everything else but themselves, ‘ fast food should be more expensive, ‘they should make all products low fat’ etc I used to be skinny kid then when I was about 16 my metabolism changed, and I hated it. I went vegan for about a year, and now I’ve been Vego ever since (4 years now) and I am the perfect size 10 .I’m not saying that’s a solution for all your weight problems, as I did it for the love of animals, but I am saying that you can achieve anything with a bit of self control and perseverance. For anyone who says dieting is hard, try going vegan for a year
Jilly Bean Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Im probably gonna get slammed for this, but I am completely disgusted by fat people. I am the perfect size 10. Um, a size 10 is pretty darn large! So, it's kinda funny that you are "completely disgusted" by fat people, when you're overweight yourself. G l a s s h o u s e s. And regardless of anyone's personal opinion of fat people, I don't think they can be collectively categorized as undateable. Perhaps not your own cup o tea, but as a group, they are not all sitting home on a SAT night. Plenty of large people are married and in relationships, and plenty of people find them attractive.

Then yes, you're average sized at a 4/6. Ten is definitely big girl status in the States. I wouldn't say they were unlucky - lol. I'm quite sure many big girls get big love. CE - you saw plenty of cheese eaters here. You know what I'm talking about. lol But, there's a lid for every pot, right?

I googled Size 10 because as a man I don't understand women's sizes. http://www.designerpitstop.co.uk/images/New%20Product%20Women/A-103-lrg.jpg That's a UK size 10, really skinny. I can't find a good picture representing a size 10 here in the US.
