I won't say I get mistaken for 20, although I was carded recently, but people do mistake me for late 20's quite often. These people have no reason to act stunned, they really are.

Nothing against the OP, but Shygirl you are right it is amazing how many people think they look 20 years younger than they do and they do not!!! Even people who have had facelifts, butt lifts and all the rest - I can still tell they are their age. This whole concept that 40 is the new 20 is bullsh&&!

Well, medical specialists and doctors disagree..

http://www.ahealthyme.com/topic/agefertility

In September 2002, women in New York and other U.S. cities got a less than gentle reminder about age and fertility: bus-size billboard ads trumpeting "Advancing Age Decreases Your Ability to Have Children. Infertility is a disease affecting 6.1 million people in the United States." Accompanying the ad was an unsettling image of an upside-down baby in the shape of an hourglass. The ad was part of an information campaign from the American Society for Reproductive Medicine and the American Fertility Association, which defended itself against charges of alarmism by noting that few women are aware of exactly how aging affects their fertility. In this, the reproductive specialists were right: Women are well aware of the biological clock's damnable tick, but until recently many of us were a little vague on just what that meant. In an online survey of 12,500 women conducted by the American Fertility Association in 2001, some 88 percent of us had no idea of the age at which fertility begins to decline -- and 39 percent thought fertility rates didn't begin falling until age 40.

In reality, women's fertility begins to decline slightly by age 27. Many women are surprised to find that it dips significantly after age 35; by age 40, 50 percent of a woman's eggs are abnormal and the chances of conceiving without a donor egg drop to 7.8 percent. In contrast, men's fertility doesn't begin to decline significantly until after age 50. Men produce brand-new sperm every day, but the quantity and quality of women's eggs declines sharply over the years.

look, i'm not going to weigh in on the overall issue here, as i think people are getting overly charged-up and some of them are not exercising their reading-comprehension skills to their utmost ability. some males and some females both in this thread have said some pretty assy things, in my opinion - equal opportunity assiness, imagine that! - but i'll leave it at that. i am going to point out, however, that vonerik appears to dig up many of his statistics from suspect sources and is also throwing mere snippets of out-of-date medical studies around. since he appears to put great stock in his statistics i would suggest he learn to develop a more critical eye as to source material and perhaps learn a little bit more about how statistics are gathered and numerically manipulated in general; also, since he seems really focused on procreation issues, i would suggest he try looking up more modern findings. i'm not arguing that female fertility begins to degrade with age; this appears to be scientifically established fact, although the egg quality does not decline anywhere near as sharply as he seems to think it does. however, his ability to make fresh healthy sperm daily is apparently also aging along with him. several new studies suggest that the age of the father affects the quality of sperm and can affect the health of his offspring. therefor older men who are still contemplating embarking on fatherhood have their own ticking biological clocks to consider, as well as those of their potential mates. vonerik, please feel free to look this up for yourself, and check your sources! cheers.

Stung,

Common sense is that if you want to have a child, you meet a woman of age. Thats is all I am saying. Ripping apart a study I took 3 seconds to find on google does not mean I am trusting bad sources. It should be common sense to know that women whom are 30, are more fertile than women who are 45.

The only reason I have to post any study is because people seem to be claiming millions of women are having kids over 40..Then the argument is shifted to "Men's sperm age too and maybe kids are autistic because of that", or "Your study is bad" lol.. Come on, use common sense..

And anyway, the thread is about older women and younger men..

A woman who is 40, and a man who is 33, etc. So, if a man's sperm starts to decline in value at 45, how is that relevant to this thread??

I don't think anyone disagrees with you there. I think were you are having issues is that men age just like women. Why you think that men's sexual organs remain in tip top shape at 40, then when he was 25 or even 35, isn't logical. The fact that you think women have more of an influence on the negative aspects of a child, isn't logical when it takes two to make a child.

Men have been told for centuries that they could have children into old age. That's not the case anymore. With research it's been discovered that aging males sperm declines. And while they still produce the ability to, doesn't mean they should because they are putting their children at risk just as an older female would be. Nature sometimes deciedes to step in and these signs are signs that older men don't neccisarily have any more business reproducing children. Do you honestly think in the caveman days that cavemen waited around to have children until they were wealthy and established? Heck no, they had children when they were young and healthy and able to fight the tigers off to defend his family. How many older men need to take drugs to have erections? You don't think that's part of nature's way of saying that an older man should be slowing down? I'm not saying men should or shouldn't be taking drugs to help with their sex life. But the fact is older men are less randy then their younger counterparts. That's natures way of weeding out who should be having children.

I know it's a hard pill to swallow because I think men look at it as a strike against their masculinity. But I think you can understand how women feel then when you have men saying how much better men get as they age, and how much worse women get. It's not true! Men age! men decline! Men get wrinkles and get less attractive! Men get nose hairs! Men are prone to age related disease JUST LIKE WOMEN.

What are you talking about???

Please post your stats, asthey are way too easy to rip apart. Men can, and often do have very healthy children at 45, 55, 65. My grandpa was 65 when he had my father, and my dad was 46 when he had me..The thread is not about if men age their sperm count declines, lol..

Women simply CANNOT have children at all past a certain age. This age is about 15 years below men.

Your silly stats said men over 45 have a 6 times greater chance of having an autistic kid...

1. Autism is hard to define..

2. nobody knows what causes it yet.

3. 6 times greater is still MINISCULE... Could be 6 out of 1000, instead of 1 out of 1000. There is no 100% proof, just a hypothetical theory.

WOMEN CANNOT even conceive past a certain age. men can have a healthy kid in their 70's...BIG DIFFERENCE...Try again.

Mamas can be any age now---even 70!--if they choose to, so don't go bandying your small-mindedness around here, gentlemen (and I use the term loosely).

Most guys in their 40's don't want children anyway. They are content without being tied down with kids. They could have done that earlier. There aren't really a lot of guys in their 40's out there wanting children, not anymore than any women.

Anyway, it's done everyday by women in their 40's.....Dara Torres and Marcia Cross are two examples, and many women I know myself.

Combining a few ongoing threads at LS, you can see what ideas a lot of modern women have.

1. They are in their 40's and 50's , yet look 20 years younger.:lmao:

2. They are obese, yet this passes as "athletic".

These women are clearly delusional, and yet criticize men who clearly states their preferences for younger, lighter women....

It becomes clear after a while on LS that fat,40 and 50 years olds....um..sorry.... athletic , youthful looking 40 and 50 year old women are where its at.

And by the way, through the miracles or modern medicine, they can have kids at 70!

Now that is a sight to behold!

Ok guys , I'm persuaded.

I will give up the thin, 22 - 33 year olds I like(not):p.

That it ladies, continue telling us what we like, this is getting funnier by the post...

No she thinks that just because you said that men prefer younger women that it means you think guys are better. She is paranoid really. She must really think guys are better if she has to fight all over the forums about how guys are NOT better?!?

I'm not telling "men what we like" what I am challenging is the idea that because I'm an older woman that I'm socially worthless and need to accept with a smile all manner of rude insulting comments. I also challenge the idea that I'm not allowed to express any preferences of my own when it comes to the people I date.

I was not referring to you specifically, but in general to the posts on this and other threads.

IMO, this thread has gone wildly off topic, which is why I mentioned that the WOMEN are trying to tell us what we like.

the original post asked MEN what their opinion was and what followed was a flood of women telling us what men want.

I never mentioned older women are useless, worthless etc. and I don't think any other guy did either.

SO , I think it is the older women who are touchy and ready to fire, not us.

Having fewer options doesn't mean I have no options, neither does it mean that I am not allowed to have any preferences concerning the people I date.
