i put together a little list, in no particular order, of some of the things that women spend a lot of money or energy trying to attain in order to improve their appearance to attract a mate. I'm curious to know if women are on target or off base in putting as much money and effort as they do into each of these things. So please rate the importance of each item on this list - use a 1-to-10 scale, 1 being "completely irrelevant to a woman's attractiveness" and 10 being "absolutely crucial".

A) Manicure

B) Hairstyle

C) Flattering clothes

D) Fashionable clothes (not the same thing as flattering *wink*)

E) Makeup

F) Perfume

G) Body weight/shape

H) Breast appearance

I) Skin condition (including tanning, blemish reduction or any form of de-aging)

IDK, man, I don't really give a rat's ass about any of that stuff.

A) Manicure: 1, just normal nails with some polish is all that's needed.

B) Hairstyle: 7, hair can make a huge difference.

C) Flattering clothes: 8, look cute, make sure the clothes don't work against you

D) Fashionable clothes (not the same thing as flattering *wink*) No idea what the difference is.

E) Makeup: 5, Light make up.

F) Perfume: 1, irrelevant. As long as she doesn't stink. Hell the shampoo has enough scent.

G) Body weight/shape: 10, must meet my criteria. I have a couple of hard rules and there are no exceptions. If I want to go on at least an hour long bike ride, she better be able to hang.

H) Breast appearance: 7, I love breasts.; minimum C-cup. Just who I am.

I) Skin condition (including tanning, blemish reduction or any form of de-aging): 6, not over tanned or pasty white. Just normal. No major scarring, normal skin is fine.

Point is, most men I know and myself could care less about A-F on a woman with an unappealing body. Sorry, it's true. This is why we get mad when women say they go to "all this trouble" for men involving A-F when it's blatantly obvious they are doing those things for themselves and competition with other women, yet steadfastly refuse to do the basic thing we men require most, get their bodies in decent shape. Not perfect, not without signs of age, not model standard, not stick thin, just IN SHAPE. Most of my married friends who are happy have wives who have eaten right and exercised to stay in decent shape. Most of my married friends who are unhappy are so because their wives have allowed themsleves to turn into shapeless blobs. Simple.

G) Body weight/shape 9 - Usually the first thing I see about a woman. Not necessarily a single type of body shape, just a good overall "package".

B) Hairstyle 9 - Usually the second thing I see about a woman.

I) Skin condition 8 - Gotta love a girl with perfect skin.

H) Breast appearance 7 - Not an absolute necessity, but definitely a plus! :)

D) Fashionable clothes 7 - Same as above!

C) Flattering clothes 6 - Not particularly important unless you have poor body weight/shape.

E) Makeup 4 - Less is more, in my opinion.

A) Manicure 3 - As long as they're more or less clean, fine by me.

F) Perfume 2 - I really think this is more of a thing girls like on guys than vice versa. If I can tell that you take a shower every day, that's good enough for me!

Age: 20

D) Fashionable clothes (not the same thing as flattering *wink*) No idea what the difference is.

I'm a guy, so this might not be exactly right, but this is how I see it:

Flattering clothes: How well the clothes "fit" with her body and emphasize attractive features while toning down her weaker points. Emphasis on sex appeal. Think: Megan Fox in Transformers.

Fashionable clothes: Following current fashion trends, generally to more associated with a sense of style, elegance, and sophistication than improving how your body looks. Usually associated with brand-name clothing like Burberry, Prada and whatnot. Think: God, I don't know, stuff you would find on runway models. Still attractive, but in a slightly different way.

That's not to say you can't find clothing that's both flattering and fashionable; usually fashionable clothes have to be flattering in some way, or else they wouldn't be part of the current trend. There are people that veer more in one direction than another, though, and the OP just wanted to know which was more important.

I don't understand why some women do this either; it's like polishing a turd. It doesn't matter how much you polish it, it's still a turd. But I guess it's easier to slap on a bit of lipstick than to drop a dozen pounds.

There's enough men around who like large women and come to think of it, there's an awful lot of large men around these days too.

Posted

A) Manicure - 5 (I hate fake nails, but I also hate untidy and unkept nails)

B) Hairstyle - 10 (I cannot stand these new hair styles that make women look like Victoria Beckham or La Roux and I cannot stand messy and unkept hair unless styled to look that way).

C) Flattering clothes - 8 (If I'm with a woman and she is wearing a corset with her boobs falling out then I'll take it as a sign that she likes attention from everyone and anyone, good or bad and I will literally bolt out of the door and into the night. Granted I don't expect her to dress in a veil, I expect her to dress with tact)

D) Fashionable clothes (not the same thing as flattering *wink*) - 4 (I couldn't care less if a woman wears a £40 top or a £180 top, clothes are clothes at the end of the day and apart from suits, I have no interest in fashion)

E) Makeup - 5 (Light make up is nice if applied nicely, when a woman slaps it on and she looks like she has been beaten with a broom stick I will have to bolt out of the door with a airy feeling of replusion. Moderation is key in life and it is key when applying make up, no one wants to date a clown).

F) Perfume - 7 (I love a woman with a great perfume, for some reason a woman with a great perfume attracts me attention in close proximity and if she is hot and the perfume is sweet it sends me into a deep mental frenzy where I am ravishing the woman's body in the middle of the street, shop or wherever I happen to be at time).

G) Body weight/shape - 10 (I work out and take care of my body shape and I expect a woman to do the same, I cannot be around people who have such a lack of regard for their bodies)

H) Breast appearance - 5 (Breasts are nice providing they are nice and perky, I cannot stand large breasts as half the time they're saggy and I do not like any plastic surgery, so those breasts are out of the question. If I find out a woman I'm seeing has had any form of plastic surgery for comestic reasons, she won't hear from me again. Just like a woman with a chest like a small boy won't hear from me again. I like a nice B cup).

I) Skin condition (including tanning, blemish reduction or any form of de-aging) - 1 (I abhorr fake tan and whitening agents that women douse themselves in to look attractive. Why do you need to look like an Umpa Lumpa or look like Michael Jackson is beyond me. If a woman uses any of these products she will become highly unattractive to me. This to me screams insecurity and unfortunately millions of women of all races are doing this. It seems like white women want to be brown and brown women want to be white. I say to these women love the skin you're in and enjoy being what you are and who you are instead of damaging your skin) (As for anti-aging, I as a man am actually looking forward to being Middle Aged, simply for the fact I look at men like Pierce Brosnan, George Clooney and Johnny Depp and think "they're the men, no twenty or thirty something year old actor or boxer or ordinary citizen have sh*t on these men, they're untouchable). It's the same with women, I think a lot of women look better in their thirties and forties than they do in their twenties, yet unfortunately women are pressured into looking younger at all costs, I mean a forty something weather woman will likely be replaced by someone in their twenties. But yes, I abhorr these skin cosmetics.

this is so funny what all the men are saying about women being out of shape, and comparing it to a 'turd' putting on lipstick or whatever. When I see couples here in Ireland, it seems to me that more men have big beer bellies than women who areout of shape!!! disgusting!

Posted

There isn't really any way that men can polish themselves up beyond shaping up their bodies and buying clothes which show it off. The guys who have fat bellies would never try to pretend that they make an effort to look good, because they obviously don't.

Women, however, put on a bit of lipstick and do their nails, and then try to insist that they've made an effort to look good. Um... no you haven't! To borrow a phrase: it's like putting lipstick on a pig.

B) Hairstyle 5 (not so much hairstyle, but I care more about hair condition, healthiness of it)

C) Flattering clothes 10 (nothing to do with price of clothes, but please dress appropriate, like you know how to put outfits together)

D) Fashionable clothes 1

E) Makeup 1 ( because most women dont know how the hell to use it anyways)

F) Perfume 3

G) Body weight/shape 8 (out of shape usually means, laziness, lack of self esteem, and lots of whining about girls that are in shape)

H) Breast appearance 1

I) Skin condition 1

OK so Fashionable clothes are fallowing the current trends. Then I'd rate them a 1.

Tight jeans/shorts and a cute top that shows some cleavage. BTW what ever happened to skirts? That's one fashion trend I don't like, the death of short skirts. I also hate the huge sunglasses that cover the entire face. Those are just stupid.

A woman made the "turd polishing" comment. If you want to make a thread about pot-bellied Irish men, please do so. This one isn't.

Really? No one else gets a big turn on from a chick with sexy hands and a nice french tip, or deep red polished nails? Almost everyone rated manicure so low.

Well at least Meerkat understands me.

I was wrong, I put makeup too high and skin too low.

Interesting...so maybe I need to wear tighter tops.

A) Manicure-1-As long as she doesn't have dirt and grime under her nails...

B) Hairstyle-5-Not a huge thing, but nice hair can really add a lot. I'm not into expensive styles myself... I prefer a well kept but more natural look.

C) Flattering clothes-5-It depends on the situation. Don't show up to social events in sweats or other ratty clothes.

D) Fashionable clothes (not the same thing as flattering *wink*)-1-What's "Fashion"?

E) Makeup- 8-Just enough to accentuate your good, natural features. No need to get painted up like a clown.

F) Perfume-5-Can add a lot or take a lot away... I'm no perfume expert, but the subtle, "dark" aromas are the ones that always get me going.

G) Body weight/shape-8-I prefer athletic looking women. Too twiggy or too fat isn't good

H) Breast appearance-8- What can I say, I like it when a girl has great T&A. Sue me.

I) Skin condition (including tanning, blemish reduction or any form of de-aging)-7-Needs to look healthy, but I could care less about tans or a couple of zits here and there.

Just my two cents.

Most of these don't really matter to me. I like natural beauty and get turned off if a woman puts to much emphasis on her appearance.

A) Manicure - 1 Lol, you're joking right?

B) Hairstyle - 5, This can actually swing the balance for me occasionally

C) Flattering clothes - 3, I like unconventional. As long as she isn't wearing rags.

D) Fashionable clothes - 1, More likely to turn me off actually

E) Makeup - 5, Again can be a huge turn off. I like very subtle or even none at all. I think my number 1 pet peeve with a woman's appearance is too much makeup.

F) Perfume - 2

G) Body weight/shape - 10, By far the most important here. If a woman doesn't meet my criteria at least initially then there is no chance. I would add face attractiveness and rate that a 10 as well.

H) Breast appearance - 5, Fake tits are lame, moderate size are best (B or C). Even really small ones aren't a dealbreaker

I) Skin condition - 3, As long as you aren't burnt to a crisp or wrinkly then I'm fine. A slight tan is nice but I would never expect a woman to do this for me.
