Toni,

I believe in you and I believe you have ALOT of faith. I can see it in all your posts. You say you don't feel that God is around you, but it is clear that he is.

The one thing God LOVES and WANTS from each and everyone of us is FAITH.

I see that you are seeking answers and looking for truths. Thats why you ask so many questions, ponder motives, and ask why why why. It's very understandable. I've been there myself. God loves faith and thats where it all begins.

To start, I know its hard, but just read the bible. Go to the bookstore, find a NIV Daily bible reads - where you just read a few pages a day. ALL your questions will be answered by the bible. If you want to know about getting to know God, read the bible. Follow the Words of the bible.

Many historians and archaeologists, even scientists, are the firmest believers in God. Because all of these professions dig up history and history can only point to one thing - God. I know one myself who was an atheist archaeologist and now is a preacher. He said he kept studying and looking and searching for all evidence of Him, and all signs pointed to God.

So keep searching Toni, you're more than on to something.

Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. Matt 7:7-8

*Something that really helps me, you say you want God to help you, every night I pray to God to help me help myself, to give me the strength. Believe me, he answers my prayers EVERY night, in one way or another.

He could of helped me by supporting me.I put up with crap for a year and a half.Everyone says that maybe god did help me because i could have got it worse but maybe that was me helping myself not him.Even after that things got worse and worse so where was he then?Ive read i thing saying god loves everyone!if he did why watch people suffer?

You seem to be answering your own questions you've posted here on this forum.

So, why are you even on here if you're doing this?

Just wondering...

Toni, if you seek answers about the existence of god by looking at all the people who suffer then you shouldn't give yourself as an example. Look at all the people who are truly unhappy (ill, starving, invalides, orphans, victims of violence and slavery, etc.). But religious people will always give you some explanation such as "god's paths have a reason" or "they are atoning for their previous lives' sins" or whatever.

Whether you decide to believe or not, you should always keep the faith in yourself and take your life in your own hands. Religion won't protect you from any evil. There are so many believers in this world who are very unhappy.

Some people have had bad experiences with religion and have drawn away from God for it. Not every preacher/preist/pastor is a genuine "Man of God".

It's really a case of either you believe in Him and get up everyday and try to live by the example he has (the Bible) or you don't believe and live the way you want.

You can't ride the fence about something like Christianity.

In Luke 16: 13 it says:

No servant can serve two masters:for either he will hate the one, and love the other,or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and Mammon. :)

At this very moment, there are people who hover between life and death in any hospital. In the last few weeks they have withstood crisis after crisis; and yet to the amazement of all, they still hang on. I dont know whether the Lord will ordain that they should ultimately live or die at this time, but I do know there is something noble about their tenacious fight for life and the desire to hang on. In the lives of each of us come these trials—trials of all kinds which shake us to the very core and cause us to explore to the very depths our ability to hang on.

I think of the my own experiences when, in the quiet of night, could not be persuaded to compromise virtue and decided instead to hang on, though the temptation was great.

I think of those who have withstood the test of many years, some of whom are confined and bedridden and who, in spite of the infirmities that age brings, will not give up. I see etched in the faces of these wonderful older people something of our heritage—lives so filled with determination and faith, lives so filled with the overcoming of adversity and trial that by their nature they simply can’t let go.

It reminds me of two trees that were close to my home when I was growing up. The one was a Russian olive and grew right in our yard. It was watered every time the lawn was watered, and in that kind of protected environment it grew to be a beautiful tree. Yet one night a tremendous wind came up. Trees were blown down, and with them went our Russian olive. We had watered it so well that the roots did not have to reach down into the soil; and because they were so close to the surface, the tree toppled over.

The second tree withstood the gale. It was a tremendous cottonwood, which still stands in the lane just half a block from where I was born. This tree was huge when I was a child. It has always stood by itself, completely exposed to the elements, with nothing but a ditch running by, which most of the time is dry. It is gnarled and tough, and its roots have had to sink deep in order to drink of the water of life; but because its roots were forced downward, it lives. I was out home the other day and noticed that most of the trees around this cottonwood are gone. But in all of its power and majesty, it still hangs on.

I see in many people this same kind of beauty. Adversity and trial have driven the roots of faith and testimony deep in order to tap the reservoir of spiritual strength that comes from such experiences. By nature they know how to stand and fight and hang on.

My friends own mother and mother-in-law are characteristic of these kinds of people. One suffered a broken hip and the other underwent a severe sickness. But they have both fought back and, like so many others, are enjoying active, useful lives. When they as a family are with them, they drew strength from them and their ability to hang on in severe crises.

I don’t know all the reasons the Lord tries us in this life, but there are two or three that come to mind. I think he wants to know whom he can trust. The Lord found he could trust Abraham because he was willing to offer his own son as a sacrifice if that was what the Lord wanted.

He wants to know who has roots of faith and testimony that reach deep into the ground and who had such shallow roots that the first wind of adversity would blow them over.

Not that you ever answer my questions, but what about the millios of people who "live the way they want" and their lives resemble "the example" of the Bible, or even better, yet they're not exactly christian?

You imply those who don't follow or believe the bible will naturally commit crimes and be heathens and malicious and need a book to keep them in check! when almost all of the violent criminals in prison are religious people. You are so full of yourself that you pitty and feel sorry throughout your posts for anyone who doesn't believe in Christianity. There are millions of people who can ride the fence, I know many, who question the bible, it's not as clear cut for everyone as it is for you, so stop putting everyone down and acting like you're so much better and live such a better life when someone not following the bible could be living a better life - doing the things you do, while also not putting others down saying that you're better than them. That is so mean and un-Christian...or maybe it is a Christian thing since many do it, but it's still wrong.

I always seem to be asking questions but i need answers.I always get the answers like god works in mysterious ways.If he is there to help everyone what happened to people who commited suicide. If he was there for them they wouldnt have done it would they?If he did reach out to them maybe he wasnt speaking loud enough and clear enough.

Maybe he has helped me i dont know i felt like commiting suicide ages ago but didnt. You may say that god reached me but did he or was it just me who stopped myself?

I think in some ways i find it hard to believe.Take totally confused for example s/he says that she prays to god every night for strength ans she says that her answers are always answered in the moring but why is it god doing this?maybe because she wants help and believes in something she believes it will work.

Take this for example.A woman went to her doctors about suffering anxiety he prescribed her some tablets and she went home took then everyday and felt better. She started running out so she went to the chemist for a repeat prescription and she found out that they was only vitamin c tablets.

My meaning of this is that she believed so strongly theyd work because they was off her doctor that they did work when actually they didnt do anything at all it was all her!

Does anyone understand me or am i talking rubbish?

Maybe we're a bit like an ant farm for God - He enjoys watching us and what we get up to, but doesn't get involved directly unless we've made ourselves known to Him and He thinks He can change things (unprovably) in our favour. He won't fix things for you directly and obviously but will help you fix them for yourself if you have faith. Maybe if you pray for something specific He may deliver it to you (if it's right for you). This has happened to me several times. My belief is something I feel - I don't think I could possibly lose it - I certainly hope I never do. I accept that sh** happens, and I will face a lot of bad episodes in my life - we all do. I don't expect special treatment, I know He has His reasons, and my belief will comfort me and help me face whatever happens. That's a good thing, isn't it?

But you have to open your heart to Him and get a dialog going in prayer. Just pray. Welcome Him into your life, tell Him your soul belongs to Him, and thank Him for all the good stuff in your life. Thank Him that you're not burying your loved ones after a massive earthquake, for example. Talk to Him at least once a day. Just putting things into words will often clear your thoughts and bring up new insightful ways to look at your problem. You don't have to be afraid of Good - you don't have to be boring, live a dull life and miss out on fun - what's fun about being truly bad? I don't believe you need to take the Bible too seriously if you don't want to, stear clear of churches if they don't appeal, but do believe. Have faith, it will enhance your life.

Good luck

Please show me in my posts where I have implied that people who don't believe in God will commit crimes, etc.

As for people who are good people that have Bible qualities...if you don't believe in God, don't believe that Jesus Christ died for your sins and rose 3 days later, and you don't live as the Bible says, you will not enter unto the Kingdom of Heaven. Period. Look at Mark 16: verses 15 & 16.

Research it. It's in the Bible. I'm not quoting to suit myself or "make points out of context".

My husband once posed the same question you have.

I feel for others and pray for them (whether they want it or not) and I don't find the whole Bible "clear cut". You are implying a lot yourself.

I pray before I read the Bible for God to give me patience and faith to understand. I don't always know what every verse means, even after I read it. God will help me to understand when He wants me to. Or when He thinks I am willing to. We don't always LIKE what it says in the Bible.

I don't think my words(in previous posts) would be called just plain rudely putting someone down. I thought I was pitying them and praying for them, you implied that was my crime on this forum?

I don't live a better life and I certainly don't act like I do in my posts. Why? because I have compassion for people? and that makes my everyday life a bed of roses?

I think you seem to want to pick a fight because my beliefs are strong.

Say what you will... I put MY trust in Jesus Christ. I will pray for whomever I please. I hold no ill will toward you (HCG)because I know what drives you.

There are several problems with this.

1. God is the ultimate judge and he isn’t fooled by image.

2. Most people in prison are there because they broke the law. Maybe you gave up on them, but the Church hasn’t.

3. You really can’t ride the fence with the belief in God. There is no middle ground so you either believe or you don’t.

This is only coming from you. Don’t expect any “Christians” to defend your biased view of them.

If I have sounded in my posts like I am putting down someone, then I apologise. What my intentions are are that I am defending MY belief in God.

It is unChristian of me if I have put someone down.

If there is evidence of this, please show me.

Jesus states in the Bible that we (as Christians) will be scourged and persecuted in His name. I guess, Apex, it goes with the territory. That's why I don't dislike HCG, whatever she says to me or about me. Because I, in my belief, know what drives her. (like I said in my previous post).:)

This is ironic. The church seems to flourish during famine, war, etc., and especially among the poor and disenfranchised. Christianity is flourishing among the poor and suffering in Africa.

Christianity seems to decline in prosperous areas. Maybe people are getting spoiled.

Posted
This is ironic.

Yes. There is no "the church."

And you cannot say that the Catholic Church for instance, insists on doing everything in the Euro-centrized way in Africa either. You have a lot of "pagan" elements that are mixed with Christian teachings, in the spreading of Christianity to rural Africa.

There are in fact a number of "Christian" groups who are dead certain that non-believers (including Christians of other persuasions) will go to hell. As no one can belong to two churches logically speaking, everyone on this planet is at least thought of by some people to go to hell. Guaranteed. Can you imagine that non-believers develop an attitude of "whatever" as a result?

Another interesting matter is the whole concept of pre-destination, in the teachings of Calvin. Yes, not even belief or non-belief in God can alter one's faith. So why bother?

I have had good things happen to me but is that gods work?Im doubtful.

Ive prayed to him many a time.

Sometimes i sit and think is there a god?maybe there is no one knows!

I do think its rude that people try to make you a christian or whatever. No one on here i mean people who come to my door begging for money bcause there christians etc.My mum is friends with a christian she a nice person up unitl a while ago.My nannas ill and she hasnt even rand or anything to ask how she is.When she was ill my mum always rang up and went round.I thought christians where nice people! My mums a genuinely really nice person she cares loads(she not a christian).I have met quite a few christains in my life and they have been quite rude to me because i wasnt one!Thats not what god would have wanted is it?

Im not saying all christians are nasty just from what ive seen.Id rather stay as i am than be nasty to people like that what gave them the right to turn there nose up at me because i dont follow the same religion?

I think that a lot of people misunderstand God to be a supernatural Santa Claus, that if they want, he will provide, and there's no two-way relationship involved. He simply will give, they simply can take.

a believer understands that yes, he can ask and knows there will be an answer, even if it's not quite the answer he wants or if it's no answer at all. The relationship between him and God is not about who gets what, but knowing that God is there listening to and loving you no matter what situation you're in. And to a believer, that faith is more important in itself than desire or need they have at a particular moment, simply because it's a sure thing.

as my mother was dying, I imagine she was afraid of the physical pain and I know she was worried about us, but the other part, the "what comes after" part, was a piece of cake simply because she trusted that the God she loved all her life was with her as she died. What an incredibly beautiful gift that was. And I don't think she'd have been able to witness or share that that had she not had that complete and utter understanding that God wasn't going to let her down no matter what crap was flicked her way. This is how faith works, that no matter how rough the seas, you understand that God is the lifejacket that doesn't fail.

you specifically comment on suicide ~ like anything else, it's boils down to a choice. Some would say one that provides an easy answer to a tough problems, others would say a bad choice, but still a choice, acted upon when someone uses his free will to make that choice. As much as He loves you and wants what is best for you and doesn't want you to take your life, because he loves you, he's not going to take your choice away from you. He'll do his best to provide you with alternatives to killing yourself, in the hope that you'll turn away from that decision, but ultimately, He leaves that decision up to you.

… If he did reach out to them maybe he wasnt speaking loud enough and clear enough.

or maybe the listener just wasn't paying attention. Remember, communication in a relationship ~ any relationship ~ is a two-way street. You cannot blame the other person if you aren't paying attention.

it's hard trying to advise someone who has questions about believing in God, but it all boils down to this: sometimes, you've just got to throw out all that you've learned and wondered about and just put your implicit trust in him and tell yourself that he will catch you whenever you begin to fall, then go from there. Questions are wonderful tools to help strengthen your faith, but if you don't have that two-way relationship established, it will suffer greatly.

what gave them the right to turn there nose up at me because i dont follow the same religion?

people can be good at focusing on that which divides them, rather than common ground between them.

I live in East Texas, which is part of the Bible Belt. There are a lot of Christian believers, and few Catholics. Sometimes I'll get funny looks or people don't know how to act or respond when they learn I'm Catholic, a lot of the times I'll hear stupid crap about my religion that's based in ignorance (and my husband can be bad about that too). But happily, there are a lot of people who, once they understand that I know Jesus and love him the way they do, are happy to concentrate on that common ground.

I think you also have to look for that common ground whenever you encounter people, period. To seek the good in them, because it's the same spark of divine that God us all when he created us.

there is a poster on this board for whom I've got a deep respect because she is a sincerely good-hearted person who shows her love in the many different things she does and says. She is agnostic, but I see in her a faith stronger than a self-proclaimed believer, simply because she acts on that instinct to love and do good. And to me, that's what it boils down to, God wanting us to acting on that good and loving instinct, because when you do, you're witnessing the very thing he is about. Religion is good because it gives you a kind of networking and a strong sense of community to help you worship better, but in the end it's not as important as responding to that innate sense of divine that God has given all of us.

My point was to show that even bible followers are not perfect, so i don't need someone to feel sorry for me and say i'm living a bad life and will go to hell when there are religious murderers in jail you all think are going to heaven.

3. You really can’t ride the fence with the belief in God. There is no middle ground so you either believe or you don’t.

I will speak for myself, and I am a fence rider - sometimes i have no belief in God, sometimes I do, and sometimes just a little bit.

I work at a very Christian company (I mean they have prayers during meetings)

There is a Christian Bulletin Board where people post prayers or requests for prayers or 'stories' about belief. I saw a couple on there that I thought were interesting and maybe they will illustrate some of the ways people believe:

>>Once upon a time there was a rich King who had four wives. He loved

>>the 4th wife the most and adorned her with rich robes and treated her

>>to the finest of delicacies. He gave her nothing but the best.

>>

>>He also loved the 3rd wife very much and was always showing her off to

>>neighboring kingdoms. However, he feared that one day she would leave

>>him for another.

>>

>>He also loved his 2nd wife. She was his

>>confident and was always kind, considerate and patient with him.

>>Whenever the King faced a problem, he could confide in her, and she

>>would help him get through the difficult times.

>>

>>The King's 1st wife was a very loyal partner and had made great

>>contributions in maintaining his wealth and kingdom. However, he did

>>not love the first wife. Although she loved him deeply, he hardly took

>>notice of her!

>>

>>

>>One day, the King fell ill and he knew his time was short. He thought

>>of his luxurious life and wondered, "I now have four wives with me,

>>but when I die, I'll be all alone."

>>

>>Thus, he asked the 4th wife, "I have loved you the most, endowed you

>>with the finest clothing and showered great care over you. Now that

>>I'm dying, will you follow me and keep me company?" "No way!" replied

>>the 4th wife, and she walked away without another word. Her answer cut

>>like a sharp knife right into his heart.

>>

>>The sad King then asked the 3rd wife, "I have loved you all my life.

>>Now that I'm dying, will you follow me and keep me company?" "No!"

>>replied the 3rd wife. "Life is too good! When you die, I'm going to

>>remarry!" His heart sank and turned cold.

>>

>>He then asked the 2nd wife, "I have always turned to you for help and

>>you've always been there for me. When I die, will you follow me and

>>keep me company?" "I'm sorry, I can't help you out this time!"

>>replied the 2nd wife. "At the very most, I can only walk with you to

>>your grave." Her answer struck him like a bolt of lightning, and the

>>King was devastated.

>>

>>Then a voice called out: "I'll go with you.

>>I'll follow you no matter where you go."

>>The King looked up, and there was his first wife. She was very skinny

>>as she suffered from malnutrition and neglect. Greatly grieved, the

>>King said, "I should have taken much better care of you when I had the

>>chance!"

>>

>>In truth, we all have the 4 wives in our

>>lives:

>>

>>Our 4th wife is our body. No matter how much time and effort we lavish

>>in making it look good, it will leave us when we die.

>>

>>Our 3rd wife is our possessions, status and wealth. When we die, it

>>will all go to others.

>>

>>Our 2nd wife is our family and friends. No matter how much they have

>>been there for us, the furthest they can stay by us is up to the

>>grave.

>>

>>And our 1st wife is our Soul. Often neglected in pursuit of wealth,

>>power and pleasures of the world. However, our Soul is the only thing

>>that will follow us wherever we go. Cultivate, strengthen and cherish

>>it now, for it is the only part of us that will follow us to the

>>throne of God and continue with us throughout Eternity.

>>

>>Thought for the day:

>>

>>Remember, when the world pushes you to your knees, you're in the

>>perfect position to pray.

Our children wander aimlessly

poisoned by cocaine,

Choosing to indulge their lusts,

when God has said abstain.

We've voted in a government

that's rotting at the core,

Appointing Godless Judges

who throw reason out the door,

Too soft to place a killer

in a well deserved tomb,

But brave enough to kill a baby

before he leaves the womb.

You think that God's not angry,

that our land's a moral slum?

How much longer will He wait

before His judgment comes?

How are we to face our God,

from Whom we cannot hide?

What then is left for us to do,

but stem this evil tide?

If we who are His children,

will humbly turn and pray;

Seek His holy face

and mend our evil way:

Then God will hear from Heaven

and forgive us of our sins,

He'll heal our sickly land

and those who live within.

But, America the Beautiful,

if you don't - then you will see,

A sad but Holy God

withdraw His hand from Thee.
