Are you a feminist?

Recommended Posts

For me, those two examples above speak far more loudly than the trivial and justify that there is a need for a movement to promote legitimate concerns thst otherwise the world would not be aware existed and feminists would be able to continue to peddle the message thst men never ever suffer genuine inequality.

Humanity is divided into lots of groups who face their own unique challenges, and it makes sense that people who work in the field of human rights might want to specialise by focusing on promoting the rights of one specific group. Families Need Fathers is an organisation like that. I often mention it in the context of discussions like this, because it's a very good organisation. In recent years they have also started to assist mothers who face problems in having contact with their children...but it's still the case that men are more likely to face this problem than women are.

But that's just one issue. The issue of rape is like abortion...it gives rise to pages and pages of arguments and at the end of it nobody's ever any further forward. The issue of false allegations is undoubtedly a serious one - and people who make them should pay the price. However, again, AVFM seems to have great difficulty in differentiating between false allegations, and allegations where there is insufficient evidence to make a finding of guilt against the person complained of.

I'm aware that AVFM deliberately sets itself up as being controversial in order to attract attention to issues affecting men. That the hope is that once attention is focused on those issues, more serious and measured discussion will ensue. However, I think that organisation has such a history of cynical advocacy of corrupt methods to "even the balance" that it has created far more obstacles for serious rights advocates than it has assisted them.

Let me give you a link to FNF

FNF 2014 - Home

Look through the site and compare it (in tone, quality of discourse etc) to something like AVFM. The only part where it expresses a more angry perspective is in "a message from Bob Geldof"...but otherwise it focuses on presenting a supportive and reasoned approach. You don't get a sense of woman-hating, or "the system is corrupt, so let's us play that game too and show how dirty we can play" from it. FNF is a serious, reputable organisation - AVFM is an absolute joke which appears to be run by a highly unbalanced individual and taints everybody misguided enough to associate themselves with it.

Rejected Rosebud

The shirt outrage is stupid and the shirt protesters are not the voice of feminism. That is more of a Twitter phenom than a feminist one.

The whole thing screams 'first world problems' .

I guess all human rights are a first world problem; since we don't really need to focus on basic survival these days we can concentrate on other things! I agree that Hawaiian shirtgate is stupid though.

Some people will attribute anything negative to feminism. They dont seem willing to see past their own distain/hatred :/

Agree on all points though.
