The exercises in the WODs aren't really all that different from what you'd do in a gym. As far as my area is concerned, there really isn't ANY marketing whatsoever - it's all word of mouth. And the results speak for themselves, there are no "claims" made by any box. You have to train for an entire month on correct form before you're even allowed to do a full class, and I've never seen this "better than you" attitude you speak of. It's competitive, but it's incredibly supportive.

The exercises aren't different, but how they are applied in Crossfit ranges from being hazardous as worst to poorly applied training principles at best. When the focus is on time, form (especially on compound movements like deadlifts) breaks down in higher rep ranges. Repetition speed is a good thing to focus on (especially in the concentric phase of the lift), but not at the expense of form (which happens when you focus on set speed, as is practiced in Crossfit).

Refer to "FAQ 1.5" on Crossfit.com for the primary example of what I'm talking about regarding unreasonable claims.

That's great that the atmosphere at your affiliate is supportive of you as a Crossfitter (as it should be for the sum of money you're paying them). The attitude I'm referring to is directed mostly at non-Crossfitters (powerlifters, strongman competitors, bodybuilders, etc.). It's just like the quote that Hokie brought up earlier: it's like after doing a couple of months worth of Crossfit, some people suddenly think they're some sort of mutant combination of MMA fighter/Navy Seal badass.

You just started though. You are the future! You can change it for the better! :)

WTF IS WRONG with you people!?!?!?!

120 lbs at 5 '5 is NOT A WEIGHT that one should HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT. OMG. the day that bloody being 120 lbs causes people to STILL feel too big, is a very sad time indeed.

Work out right, eat right, and do it all of the time. Do the right thing and your body will become more firm. Do u go to a gym? It is absolutaly idiotic of you to want a quick fix, if you do not work out regularly.

IF you are 120 lbs and you DO go to a gym, and u do Pilates or weights to tone most days, AND u go for a run or do some sort of intense c ardio at least 3 days a week, AND you eat a clean diet with no chemicals or fake food in it.....

THEN there should be no problems. However, 120 lbs on 5 ' 5 CAN look flabby if you do nto bother to eat right and exercise. So do that ( if u r not already), because 120 at your height can also be VERY SLENDER looking.

STOP GIVING a women, who has a BMI of 20, all this advice on how to look thinner. IT IS SO SAD that 120 lbs is considered a weight that is in need of all this slimming advice.

Why not just wear flattering clothes, go easy on the salt, and lead a healthy life style in general? Continuing to give advice on how to look thinner only reinfoeces the fact that 120 lbs is some how a critical weight, thast is not thin enough to please a guy.

Again I am not being bitter, I am not a jaded fat chick - I am also about 120, planning to get down to about 114 myself! But I just plan on doing it healthily.

LASTLY - I have tried many types of eating; low protein, high protein, breasd, no bread, etc.

My body adapts to pretty much anything, and I could maintain 114 lbs from all the different types; the key thing is this: IT HAS OT BE CLEAN FOOD.

No man made chemicals. No refined, white sugar.

Also, what and gluten products can not agree with some people, so taking away grains or gluten can reduce the size of some people's stomaches.

But if you can eat bread and feel fairly normasl ( not too bloated), then u should keep eating it, but perhaps limit it and try to replace it with sweet potato, or oats or other things for variety?

I relate to your situation a little, as 114- 116 is my ideal weight on my body type; I have large DD breasts though, so my body type prob has those extra curves, where as most women our weight have smaller boobs....

I have managed to find a variet of ways to maintain 114 lbs in the past, the only thing was that I ate clean, real foods, no chemicals.

HERE is the sort of plan that helped me maintain 114 lbs:

BREAKFAST: either: 2 pieces toast w/about 2 - 3 tbsps peanut butter or almond butter, with honey ifextra hungry.

LUNCH: Salad with two boiled eggs and cold pressed viergin olive oil, or salad with nuts - CASHEWS r highest in protein out of all the nuts which = fullness and less hunger afterwards.

DINNERS: Vegetables and/OR salad with some sort of protein, such as beans, tofu or chickpeas, OR some fetta cheese ( goat or sheeps cheese is better for you than cows dairy products).

OR: a 2 egg omlette is tasty and a good choice for dinner, too.

SNACKS BETWEEN MEALS: Have a cup of coffee if that is your thing, but try to limit it to about 2 cups a day.

2 - 4 tbsps of honey

Berries ( alone or with honey)

A hand full of nuts

some chopped raw vegetables dipped in peanut butter or hummus ( make sure hummus is chemical free and only has real ingredients).

According to your no meat/heavy protein rules, the above plan looks fairly good.

Good luck with your Date, I hope you are genuinly interested in a good long term plan, and that u do not think that 114 or 120 will make or break this guys feelings for u.

It is great to feel thinner ( for some ppl, like us), but as long as u eat enough, and that u want to improve your health for long term benifits, as well as for this date.

I am about to start a food science degree and I have spent the past few years experimenting with food, to find the idel way of eating, so feel free to ask me advice any time in regards to food, seeing as I have tried all sorts of ways of eating.
