OK, I just read the previous page. Thanks for the advice, guys!

Yeah, you're right. Sugar and breads are my biggest vice. I've wanted to cut down on them for awhile. It's hard because I work at a restaurant that has an array of delicious pastries in my 2 foot radius. I often start the day vowing to not eat any, but I end up breaking down. Part of the problem is we don't get a food break until 6 or 7 hours through our shift. I've thought about sneaking away to the bathroom, though, to eat a healthy snack I bring with me. What do you guys think?

Any tips on how to curb the bread cravings?

Oh, could you guys help me plan the rest of my food day? I'm kind of clueless. I don't want to gain the five lbs back, obviously. So should I limit my last meal to something protein-only?

Here are my healthy options based on what my restaurant offers. Bear in mind I can modify any of these dishes to make them more healthy. I can also do a half salad instead of a full salad:

1) salad with lettuce, beats, tomatoes, green peppers, lentils, salsa, tunafish and one hardboiled egg chopped up.

2) salad with the above plus carrots minus the egg and tuna

3) falafel -- two falafels (which I believe are deep-fried), tahini sauce, hot sauce, hummus, salsa and a small smattering of mixed veggies.

4) chicken kabob plate -- chicken kabob pieces mixed with salad and side of hummus. Possible addition of rice.

5) lamb kabob (above replacing chicken with lamb)

6) fruit salad (banana, berries, kiwi, mango)

Thoughts?

Is this REALLY what it takes to attract a man that isn't a neanderthal??

my date is a crossfit addict who is in amazing shape -- tall, thin and extremely toned. Obviously, I'm not as athletic or toned, but I want to be at least thin. :) I would anyway. I've needed to lose that weight for awhile.

Absolutely NOT! Any guy who focused that much on appearance only WOULD be a neanderthal.

Well, ok. Sexy is good, that's true. But doesn't it seem a trifle OCD to be an 'anything' addict?? Can you imagine LIVING with such a person and stressing out about this around the clock? Ok, I know I'm getting ahead of myself here, but...

Pretzeling yourself into an image some guy has in HIS head is not healthy, IMO. We're not talking about someone worrying about his gal's weight when she has a BMI of 38 or something. This is all about appearances.

Hey, it's not like I think I'm overweight or anything. I know I'm already thinnish. I just know that my ideal weight is 115, based on how I look and feel.

Aside from one brief period when I was 22 and got down to 105, my weight has always stayed within 3-5 lbs of 115. I'm pretty good at keeping it there and will increase or decrease my food intake to maintain it.

You know you can look lean and toned without dropping any weight? You can manipulate your diet according to an exercise routine of cardio and strength training ( notice I did not way weight lifting since weight lifting builds bigger muscles). This way you can build just enough lean body mass to to burn just fat.

You know some of the most gorgeous women weighs as high as 130 lbs but they're always toned and lean, and much of their weight comes from muscle rather than fat.

I wasn't able to read through ALL the posts, but do you exercise? I am 2.5 inches taller than you, I weigh 140 pounds, and I am size 6. People tell me I look fabulous, and I am very slender and toned. I cannot IMAGINE how skinny you must be if you are 5'5" tall and only 120 lbs!

Maybe if you exercise more you will feel better? I run 4 - 8 miles per day, 5 to 6 days a week.

As far as food - you seem almost too obsessed with what you eat. Do you think you can eat like this for the rest of your life? I can't live on a 'diet plan'. Yes, I watch what I eat and make very healthy food choices - I have to - but I also don't deprive myself of anything.

I know, you're not overweight. In fact, from the pics I recall seeing, you are a very attractive gal, and ANY guy should be proud to be in your company if we're basing this on looks. I know you only via LS, so to be able to comment on your personality would be out of line, but you seem like a nice gal. :)

I just wouldn't put so much emphasis on a number on a scale is all.

First of all, I need to share some a couple of my favorite Crossfit quotes...

"I totally talked down to this guy and made him feel small because I'm obviously superior since I do Crossfit workouts...I'm like a god damn Navy SEAL and Olympic gold medalist wrapped in a f*cking suit of body armor...I'm going to go take my shirt off now..."

"You should think about what I said...Crossfit is the coolest..."

"I don't know...I'm not sure I'm ready to be a shirtless camera-whore with a god complex..."

"No one ever is...no one ever is..."

That being said, why do you assume he'd expect you to be in the same or similar shape as him...? Yes, there are a number of elitist folks who look down on those who aren't in incredible shape (ironically, a lot of them Crossfitters :laugh:), but a good majority of folks don't care so much... If you honestly think this guy is going to think less of you because of 5 "imaginary" water pounds, then is that the kind of guy you want to be dating? If he's worth a damn, he's going to think you're a great gal regardless of whether you weigh 115 or 120...if not, then you're better off finding that out early, don't you think...?

Uh oh, red flag...

Hope you're ready to start shelling out lots of money for "Paleo" food and climbing mountains for the sole purpose of taking photos of you two doing 'overhead squats' with your backpacks to post on his Crossfit affiliate's Facebook page that has 23 fans.

Of course! Don't get me wrong, I appreciate such a program that actually pushes people to work hard, but the attitude that seems to go hand in hand with many x-fitters is hilarious.

Oh, c'mon. Have you ever tried it?

I know several Crossfitters who have obtained exceptional physical fitness (beyond just looking like Hokie ) that they never had from just being a gym rat. I say don't know it 'til you try it.

I have done it (years ago). Many of my met con training sessions that I do multiple times a week are very similar. My problem with Crossfit lies in the attitudes, the marketing, the outlandish claims, and the possible safety issues associated with some of their prescribed WODs.

Crossfit is nothing more than general physical preparedness training, which can be obtained just as effectively, much more safely, and much more cheaply outside of Crossfit. The people that benefit the most are those who need motivation from group classes. To that end, I suppose an argument can be made for paying such high membership fees. However, the compromises in safety and the "I'm better than you" attitudes are inexplicable.

What about that reasonable post some time back ... or maybe it was on another thread altogether? The one that said that dating got a lot better when the poster went into it excited about finding out whether or not SHE liked HIM rather than trying with desperation to present herself as what she thought he'd like??

Shadow ... if you need to lose weight (which I doubt, given your descriptions of yourself, but if you do) that's one thing. There's a whole diet, weight loss & fitness forum right here on LS for support in that, too.

To suddenly go mad about losing 6 pounds right this moment in prep for a blind date - it's not healthy.

You are a smart, cerebral type, right? And you'd like to be with a guy who's like that too? Where does a crash diet to impress a Crossfit addict fit in with who you are and what you want?

Yes, he might have the qualities you like, but you seem to have abandoned ship on all that and got all on board for just the physical.

:love: I would hope that I also have the physical fitness to back up the looks...

I have actually tried Crossfit for a few months...and conceptually, it is a great training principle and one I'd recommend to everyone as part of their fitness regimen. However, the two things that bug me the most about Crossfit is the attitude of some Crossfit enthusiasts and the mechanical shortcuts they implement in order to attain speed and repetitions, which is the focus of Crossfit.

I'm sure there are some great people who do Crossfit and understand its purpose AND limitations, but there are some who believe they are athletic gods because they do Crossfit. These same folks believe that Crossfit is all you need to do to be in amazing shape...but to each their own...

Being a Marine, I am a pull-up Nazi and cringe whenever I see them done wrong...cue the Crossfitters with their kipping action...drives me nuts...

And one more thing.

Physiques like Hokie's are the result of exceptional fitness and a lot of discipline, hard work, and time. I don't understand how people see someone like him and think "oh that's just show muscle". Barring over-the-top pharmaceutical enhancement and surgery, people don't just suddenly wake up looking like that.

If you didn't mean it that way, then I'm sorry. *Gets off stump*

The exercises in the WODs aren't really all that different from what you'd do in a gym. As far as my area is concerned, there really isn't ANY marketing whatsoever - it's all word of mouth. And the results speak for themselves, there are no "claims" made by any box.

However, the compromises in safety and the "I'm better than you" attitudes are inexplicable.

You have to train for an entire month on correct form before you're even allowed to do a full class, and I've never seen this "better than you" attitude you speak of. It's competitive, but it's incredibly supportive.

With all due respect to you and my dearest Hokie , I have to adamantly disagree. I've seen men who look like Hokie get DESTROYED by Crossfit. Crossfit is about functional movements, balance, and mobility. You absolutely CAN look like Hokie without having an exceptional level of fitness. I've seen it with my own two eyes countless times.

Sh*t, I'd even include myself in that category back in the day when I was a gym rat. I looked damn fine, but there's no way I could've pulled off what they do in Crossfit.

Sorry to T/J. Back to discussion.

I have to agree here...because I was once one of those men... When I first started doing Crossfit (a couple years ago), I absolutely got my ass kicked...because it was something I hadn't done before...but like anything else, once you start doing it and your body becomes accustomed to the movements and intensity, it becomes easier...but I will admit that it's still no joke...

I have since incorporated a lot of the things I learned from my few months doing Crossfit into my gym routines, but it's not something I do regularly now...

Ok, now I'm done defending myself...:laugh:
