Author shadowplay Posted August 29, 2010 Author Posted August 29, 2010 It's partly just that I've been really bloated in the last few days, so I want to lose some of that. I'm not planning on starving myself, and after hearing some of the feeback I'd be OK with just losing a few lbs water weight, even if it's three or whatever. Today what I've had to eat so far: breakfast: whole wheat toast with dab of honey bowl of mixed organic raspberries and blueberries lunch: salad with romaine lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots and beats (no dressing). Small honey pastry three cups of coffee I'm not really hungry right now. In fact I feel kind of bloated/full, and I'll probably just have berries for dinner. I need to cut down on my carb intake, and have more protein. It'sh ard because I have such a sweet tooth.
USMCHokie Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 Ok...if you really want to do this, I'll give you a general idea of what I do the few days before I go to the beach for a weekend or something (yes, I'm an absolutely vain bastard and prance around without a shirt...) Bottom line is you need to cut down on carbs and sodium...that is key to reducing water retention...sodium is the real killer and will make you feel bloated almost instantly, so avoid it at all costs...I'm currently doing carb cycles during the week, so at the beginning of the week, I'll load up on carbs for a couple days to induce higher metabolism...followed by 2 or 3 days of absolutely no carbs outside of veggies...consume lean proteins and fibrous veggies...broccoli, carrots, celery, spinach, lean meats, beans of all types, etc. No fruits or fruit juices... You can do a little mini cycle in the couple days that you have...but the key is to really go no carb... As far as water, drink a TON of water a few days out..."dehydration" should only happen on the day of the event...and even then, don't go crazy...it's not really that necessary... Doing some running or even some light workouts the couple days before would also help a little...
Star Gazer Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 lunch: salad with romaine lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots and beats (no dressing). You NEED to add some protein and fat to that "salad." At least some nuts, or something.
spookie Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 You're eating pretty healthy, but not the right types of food to "look" your slimmest. I'd go for more chicken breast and veggies, less bread.
xpaperxcutx Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 Skip the bread. Eat broccoli and trade in oil for monosat. fats like cashews and almonds.
zengirl Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 If you really want to actually lose water weight (and lose that bloated feeling long-term), you need to hydrate long-term, not dehydrate. Some people can change that in 3 days, but it depends on your body. On the occasions I've realized I needed to, I can re-hydrate and drop noticeable water weight in a few days. But I generally stay hydrated in general. It's partly just that I've been really bloated in the last few days, so I want to lose some of that. I need to cut down on my carb intake, and have more protein. It'sh ard because I have such a sweet tooth. The pastry and bread -- and the sweet tooth -- would be good things to cut down on in general. Bread isn't really so bad in small quantities, I guess, but it can help feed the sugar addiction, which is what a "sweet tooth" is. (Don't get me wrong---I eat bread, though.) Personally, I really advise anyone unhappy with any aspect of their body/health/energy to get as far away from things like pastry as possible -- moderation will kill you, too, because the sugary compounds in such things create addictive properties, and then you get cravings for them. I almost never eat such things anymore (I'll have a slice of birthday cake or something here or there, but rare enough that the sugar never grips a hold on me) and I feel 100x better. At any rate, you need protein. If the issue is a sweet tooth, yogurt (high protein, low sugar kinds abound) is a good way to go about it. Many kind of nuts are not only healthy but natural uppers -- walnuts have been linked with curing depression and anxiety for example. I'm not one who believes in low-carb extreme diets, but more protein will kick your brain into gear. Put some lean turkey in your salad or something.

That is SO true, and I think there's some science behind it.
meerkat stew Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 One good tip for sweet tooth, as this seems to be turning into a diet tips thread is to find honey produced in your locale and eat a teaspoon slowly when you have sweet tooth cravings. Limit to 2-4 tablespoons per day. I have a friend who is never sick and he swears it's because he eats local honey daily. Who knows if he's right, but honey sure is good and sweet!
USMCHokie Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 I use natural peanut butter to satisfy the sweet tooth...and ungodly amounts of Splenda...
Star Gazer Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 ...and ungodly amounts of Splenda... Eff the calories. I prefer sugar in the raw...
Green Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 You really shouldn't try to lose the weight fast as you could end up just gaining it back PLUS SOME. I agree 5'5 and 114lbs looks pretty good but you have to do it at a slow pace. If you weighed 180 you could easily loose 6lbs quick but you only weight 120 according to you and it will take a few weeks atleast to lose 6lbs and then maintain it. Basicaly make water the only thing you drink, stop eating bread and that alone should do it... as long as you don't start new bad habbits.
USMCHokie Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 Eff the calories. I prefer sugar in the raw... Hahah, of course, my mistake! Nothing like a little (or a lot) of Sugar in the Rawr...
Green Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 Hahah, of course, my mistake! Nothing like a little (or a lot) of Sugar in the Rawr... I think you need to embrace raw strength USMC I mean there is no doubt you are more ripped then I but u need raw strength in a confrontation. Put some fat on your body. Personaly as long as my abs are flat and I see a few muscle lines I don't care.

Meh, I perform a 54" box jump...can do about 5 dead hang pullups with a 100 lb plate strapped to my waist...about 5 or 6 reps of 105 lb dumbbell bench press...~275 squat and 315 deadlift...while balancing on top of a Bosu ball...yadda yadda yadda...and I weigh ~155 lbs... Pound for pound, I do alright in terms of strength...
Pink Cupcakes Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 A salad doesn't have to have protein to be a salad. Why the quotation marks? I get you are saying she needs protein, but if you look up the word salad in the dictionary, it doesn't state that a salad needs protein by definition. So lose the quotation marks, 'kay? You NEED to add some protein and fat to that "salad." At least some nuts, or something.

Put some fat on your body. Personaly as long as my abs are flat and I see a few muscle lines I don't care. Raw strength doesn't mean d*ck if you have a glass jaw and slow hands. People skills are your best defense in a "confrontation". Just sayin'... Since when are we talkin' 'bout fightin' and wrasslin'? A salad doesn't have to have protein to be a salad. Why the quotation marks? I get you are saying she needs protein, but if you look up the word salad in the dictionary, it doesn't state that a salad needs protein by definition. Just sayin'... yes people skills are your best defense because in the end most violently capable person wins and its never a fair fight.

I've never even lifted the 105 lb dumbell. I could squat more then 275 but your on bosu ball when u squat???
USMCHokie Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 I'm pretty sure I can jump higher then you. Box jumps...I know you've got some height on me, but it's about how high you can get your feet tucked up into your body to land on a platform, not how high you can reach your hands... I'm working on reaching the illusive 5 foot box jump... I could squat more then 275 but your on bosu ball when u squat??? Yea...it's been what I've been doing with a lot of exercises lately...not sure how much I could squat on flat ground...haven't done that in a while...but I would have a slight mechanical advantage being shorter with a shorter range of motion...

Besides the complete lack of protein (which others have mentioned), I'm not surprised you feel bloated, with three cups of caffeine on an almost-empty stomach! Three cups of coffee is NEVER 'good' for health, no matter how you look at it. It's acidic and messes with your stomach, it's a neurostimulant and messes with your mood and hormones, and it's a diuretic and causes dehydration. Dehydration is never the way to go. Stop it.
Author shadowplay Posted August 30, 2010 Author Posted August 30, 2010 (edited) I've already lost 5 lbs of water weight, without starving myself. Btw, I rarely eat much protein in general. I almost never eat meat or eggs. When I have protein it's usually in the form of (lean) cheese and skim milk. I've read that people need less protein than is commonly believed, and protein is pro-aging in anything but strict moderation. Yesterday I had berries, whole wheat toast for breakfast, large garden salad of mixed greens with pita bread for dinner, whole wheat crackers with sugar-less peanut butter. Author shadowplay Posted August 30, 2010 Author Posted August 30, 2010 ^lol. WTF. Today I've had so far. I've decided to cut out the coffee and stick to a couple of cups of natural tea. breakfast: cooked oats with sugarless peanut butter and dab of honey mixed together. snack: small bowl of very lightly sweetened yogurt with blueberries mixed in. lunch: plain whole wheat toasted bagel with bowl of salad (romaine lettuce, sprouts, tomatoes, green peppers, vinegar and olive oil).
Author shadowplay Posted August 30, 2010 Author Posted August 30, 2010 Any suggestions about how to make my diet more healthy?
Author shadowplay Posted August 30, 2010 Author Posted August 30, 2010 Oh, I also forgot to add that I eat a lot of nuts and beans for protein. I love lentil soup.
