no sex before marriage issue

Recommended Posts

All wars are orchestrated... and like lemmings people follow..

I meant defensive wars, like WW II when men and women enlisted to prevent armies from killing innocent people like that little outfit called the Third Reich and the pilots that bombed Pearl Harbor.

(I had uncles serve in WWII and Korea).

I guess those soldiers defending their country or homes were all "lemmings" and should have just rolled over and let an invading army or criminals take what's not theirs.

Like Germany rolling into France or taking over Sweden during the 1940s.

Those soldiers tend to not act like gentlemen towards the women and children, you know.

Wasn't he?

Well he wasn't talking about the state of war
....Just like "Thou shall not kill..." That doesn't mean someone can't ever kill... like in war.
There are no valid reasons why I should go out and kill people of another country whom I don't' even know, nor any valid reason why people of an another country should kill the people of my country - so why don't politicians fight it out amongst themselves, instead of involving and killing the public? That's why I used the word "Lemmings" - but we are going off topic, so I will leave it there. Edited by Truthseeker-John

Again, was talking about defensive actions, which I believe most religions wouldn't reject. (Keeping it back to religion).

Of course leaders should work disagreements out, but I don't like the thought that people wouldn't be willing to defend their country, property or family from harm, which I find incredulous. King David was a warrior, after all.

I enjoy your posts, Truthseeker, so don't take this as a slap...

I don't believe in the 'no sex before marriage' thing, and here's why...

The bible states that even looking at a woman in lust makes you have fornicated with her. How many of us have looked at porn before, or looked at a girl/guy in the street and said in your mind, "Man, wouldn't I love to have that?"

If that is having sex with someone, and is on the same level as actually having sex with the person, why not actually have sex? That makes all of us 'sinners', in some respect.

Apparently 'Jesus' was talking about lusting over a married woman, someone who is joined to another man and sex is not a sin if it is not hurting someone and, if we are not hurting anyone there's no such thing as 'living in sin' (as the RC church told us)... having sex is good and healthy and is not a sin (unless we are hurting another person).

I am a Christian, I believe in God and Jesus, and I follow the bible to some extent. However, there are some things that I think are false, and that is one of them. The bible was written by man, and some stuff got mistranslated along the way, I think.

Plus, people are marrying later in life (in their late 20's/early 30's), and when the bible was written, people were marrying in their teens (just when you start to have sexual thoughts and feelings.) Therefore, the 'no sex before marriage' ideal is outdated. It simply does not work with our current society.

I do agree it is outdated. Here's what happened: Adam and Eve did not need a certificate to be joined (to be married) and as people multiplied and couples got together, living in the same house and making love, other people celebrated for them and had a marriage feast. It was much later that a requirement of a certificate to be married came about. So we can say that the 'no sex before marriage' ideal is not only outdated but is also pre-dated. The irony of all this is that I do actually believe in God. But I don't believe that God expects us to somehow deny or suppress the natural urges that he gave us until we sign a contract. Nor do I believe that God demands us to sign a contract with someone we love.

God does not expect us to deny the very same urges that He gave us. But He has standards that those who truly follow Him have to live by and He is faithful to enable you live that way if you sincerely seek to live a holy life.

Are you in a relationship? You sound pretty jealous that this fat ugly friend of yours has a hot playboy in her bed. Religion is the devil, and you have no secular mind, only preconceived notions of what is right and wrong. If you start understanding that there is no right and wrong, you'll find decision making becomes a lot easier. AKA leave the church!

CG, this is quite an unusual response to the OP's question. I didn't get the OPer was jealous at all, just asking a question:)

Thank you Pureinheart. I just saw this response, and I could not fathom how this 'person' could even get that I was 'jealous' from what i wrote. Makes me just shake my head.

And may i say that this 'playboy' is an ex con, no job, no car, who lives off disability and has his girlfriend buying most of his stuff. But hey, at least he's a christian. :)

That is an important part of this story that I don't recall seeing earlier in the thread.

That information changes things considerably.

My earlier posting was about regular Christian men and women with normal or pure motives, despite maybe having sexual pasts -- people can change- I've seen women on these boards become "reborn" virgins.

Wasn't refering to not someone using religion as a front. Guess I was a little naive here.
