kitten chick Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 Same weight. Been going to the gym more and took up interval training again. I think I fractured or badly bruised my toes this morning so it looks like I'm out of the gym for at least a week. grrr. I might try L.A. weight loss but I'm not sure it will work for me since I'm already eating properly.
Minnaar Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 I would like to jump in here and join up with you all in your endevour. I have been working at this for 4 years. I started at over 600Lbs 39% 4 years ago. Currently just under 300Lbs 6'2'' and down to 28% body fat. Goal 200Lbs By Spring 2007. (Then hopefully surgery for the removal of the excess tissue) I had gone to the doctor and she basically told me I needed to lose weight, I was like DUH.. I was looking into opting for the Bypass surgery and when she was not willing to assist me in the fight with my insurance company, I got angry.. No, I got PISSED OFF. (I wrote her a letter thanking her for that btw.) My father was diagnosed with Diabetes, he and I were the last in our family to not have it. Now it is only I who is not a diabetic. I don't plan on becoming one any time soon. I had never thought about checking forums or anything like that. But seems that ideas are exchanged, techniques and such. I am getting to a place now that is finally slowing down even more than I had before. But not yet willing to give up. Minn<3
Author hotgurl Posted March 22, 2006 Author Posted March 22, 2006 I lost another 1.5 lbs. Yeah! how are you guys doing?
BlahBlahQueen Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 I've lost five pounds since my last post... Still have seven pounds left to reach my goal weight of 115. But now I realized I really need to get down to 110-112 because at 115 my hips are still too wide and my thighs are still too flabby to get work. So I'm changing my goal weight to 112, which means I have 10 pounds left to go and I have two weeks to lose them. I'm sure I would have lost more weight more quickly if I had truly given up bread and butter. But they're always in the fridge and I can't resist. And I can't get rid of them because my grandparents eat them. I guess more willpower is in order. I wanna share a trick here; it's worked wonders for me in the past. It takes a little bit of self-brainwashing. Every time you're hungry, you have to tell yourself, "Oh my god, I'm SO thirsty..." then drink like a pint of water. After that, food won't fit in your stomach and you won't be quite hungry. Then when you get hungry again, repeat as necessary. After a week or two you really start to interpret hunger as thirst and the pounds start dropping right off...
Becoming Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 Minaar, good for you! Woohoo! What an amazing accomplishment. And thanks for the tip BlahBlah. I notice I just plain feel better/more energetic when I drink the gallon of water we're supposed to drink each day. I'm not losing. I've only lost another pound since the initial 7. I'm swimming twice a week, running up and down 3 flights of steps at least 4x/day, occasionally walking for a half hour. I limit myself to one bread a day because I've never met a carbohydrate that didn't want to live with me forever. But stress has been high in my life, and my normal way of handling it has been with food. Some habits die hard. I just need to get more intentional about what I'm eating. I ate 1/2 a piece of NY cheesecake this p.m. after dinner--the first I've had in forever--and my was it good! Anything to the corisol/stress connection I've read about, in anyone's opinion? And/or menopause? I've gained 30# when I went into menopause 4 years ago even though I was only 42, and my ability to lose weight seems practically non-existent, so when I get discouraged, I think, WTH, I'm not losing. I can eat a burger and fries and not gain weight, so why not? It sure tastes better than that salad I have every day for lunch. And I'm so #$@! busy I don't have time to think so much about food, which dieting seems to require. Any tips?
kitten chick Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 I just got back from running my arse off, like I've been doing every day. Yet, I have not lost an ounce. Something must be seriously wrong with me because I don't even know how that's possible. Great jobs Minnaar, hotgurl, and BBQ!
Dawn82 Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 What is your diet like Kitten Chick? how much calories do you take in every day? from your last few posts you seem very focused on the exercise portion of your weight loss. what about your diet? Shahar.
kitten chick Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 Thanks Dawn82, I appreciate the sentiment but I have an excellent diet. I'm a health nut although I will admit I generally eat more fruit at times than I should, probably on average once or twice a week. My diet is very low in fat and high in fiber. I know that my problem is due to a health issue, I don't know why I keep saying that I have no idea why I can't lose weight.
Dawn82 Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 Well I hope your health issue is fixable. the only advice i can comeup with this limited info is to consider adding weight lifting to your exercise routine. (unless u already do that) good luck. Shahar.
kitten chick Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 Yes I lift, I used to be a personal trainer back in college. I know what to do, it just doesn't work for some people but I do appreciate your trying to help.
Minnaar Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 Thank you everyone, and another 2lbs down. Chick, what is your body fat percentage. Perhaps you are not losing because of muscle mass. Just a thought. Minn<3
Author hotgurl Posted March 29, 2006 Author Posted March 29, 2006 I am the same I amm getting frusrtated.
kitten chick Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 I've been working out 5-6 days a week for a while now and I gained a pound. I've been tracking my calories eaten and calories burned on fitday and I'm creating some insane deficits in calories burned versus eaten and I gained a pound. I'm burning between 1000 and 1200 more calories than I've eaten on average each day. This pretty much leads me to believe that there's nothing I can do, it's completely out of my control. Do I stop trying?
Author hotgurl Posted March 29, 2006 Author Posted March 29, 2006 kitten chick you said you have health problems that are contributing. I do to I have a hormone imbalance that effects my insulin. Maybe you should go to the doctor. I am really frustated myself.
kitten chick Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 Thanks hotgurl. I've been to every doctor and been tested for everything under the sun. Perhaps there is some test that I didn't think of but who knows what that could be. I think it's just out of my control and I have to accept that it's physically impossible for me to be normal. I understand your frustration hotgurl. I wish I had an answer for you too. I know you said you're walking now. Is it possible to step up your exercise routine?

I understand your frustration hotgurl. I wish I had an answer for you too. I know you said you're walking now. Is it possible to step up your exercise routine? I walk 1 mile at lunch but I want to do 2 more at night when I get home at a faster pace. Also since I am sensitve to carbs I have been trying to limit them and up my protien. The weeks I lose weight are the weeks I eat eggs or cottage cheese for breakfast instead of toast or yougurt. Thier is a medicine that can help but I really don't want to be on any more. I want to really try hard before I take that route. You said you count calories what to do you use? I hear you about the test I have had so many done it sucks.
kitten chick Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 What do I use to count calories or track my calories? I use Fitday.com to track my calories and exercise. It's a great site and gives you everything you need to know including your basal calories. Personally, I almost never eat even my basal amount of calories. To count calories...are you looking for a specific diet? I'm not doing any specific diets right now but the one I like the best is LA Weight Loss. It teaches you proper nutrition as well as portion control as opposed to something like Weight Watchers which only teaches you to count calories. It's fine and good to do portion control but if you're not eating a balanced diet then dieting is useless. Don't even get me started on the people who save up all of their points by starving all day to eat a piece of chocolate cake.

I just thought monitoring my calories would help. Usually I am pretty good with the diet I eat a lot of veggies and have cut out sweets except for once in while uped water intake I don't drink sodas and rarely drink juice. I just feel like there is something I am missing.
kitten chick Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 If you're drinking enough water, eating a balanced diet, and exercising I think that you're not missing anything. Either you haven't found the diet and exercise that works for you or your body is just meant to be this way. At least that's the way that I feel about myself. The only thing I can suggest for you is adding in some weight training and stepping up your cardio. If you build your muscles you'll burn more.
Leahh Posted March 29, 2006 Posted March 29, 2006 Hi everyone!! I decided to join you all in your wednesday weigh ins! I am currently at 188 and hope to get to 150 eventually. I was up around 194 so- so far so good, although I think so far is mostly water weight. Have a lovely wednesday

It's a great site and gives you everything you need to know including your basal calories. Personally, I almost never eat even my basal amount of calories. I started putting in my meals and found I was eating more calories than I thought. so thank you for directing me to that site. But what are basal calories?
kitten chick Posted March 30, 2006 Posted March 30, 2006 Basal calories are the calories that each individual will burn naturally, if they were doing nothing else. It's what you need to breathe, sleep, etc.
bab Posted March 30, 2006 Posted March 30, 2006 Okay, I've really gotten off balance lately, and haven't really been doing anything "good". But I picked back up on Sunday with exercising and dieting, so I'm hoping to see good results this week. Anyway, I'm back in. I just calculated my Basal calories. It looks like on my current plan I should be loosing 2lbs per week. Hope it is true!
kitten chick Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 Wednesday weigh in! Woot! Seems like weight day on LS. Anyway... I'm still at the same weight but my clothes are getting tighter. Regardless of how little I eat or exercise, I seem only to gain. Basically the point I'm at is the less I eat the more I gain. I don't think I was eating little enough to be in starvation mode, I think. So my new thought process is that if I eat more, I'll lose weight. I'm giving it a shot. For the past two days I've bumped up my calories by about 300-400 per day and added in a lot more unsaturated fats. We'll see what happens! Oh and I'm still exercising like a madman

I need to pick up my exercise. thanks for the fitday link I realized I was eating more than I thought also I have to up my protien. I was eating 1800 calories and now I have drop it too 1400-1600 and exercise everyday but I am only buring about 300 calories. So I need to burn 500 a day and stick to 1200 to 1400 calories,
