elaine567
From the article Quote A recent Harris Poll surveyed 2,225 U.S. adults and asked them about their top regrets. Here’s what they said: They were too young when they got the tattoo Their personality changed or the tattoo doesn’t fit their present lifestyle. They got someone’s name that they’re no longer with. The tattoo was poorly done or doesn’t look professional. The tattoo isn’t meaningful. That all sounds pretty logical to me and I am not surprised some will regret getting a tattoo. Fine for those who have considered the options and consequences carefully and get the tattoo they planned for and wanted, but I guess there are a whole lot of people with tatts, that they wish would magically disappear overnight... It reads like a segue from a joke to a jab. Tattoo removal is quite expensive. My statements were "most people don't regret them" in one post and "only 30% regret them" in a subsequent post. Perhaps you are confused. Regret and removal are two different things just like 30% is not 3/4. If you don't like the sample article, I also suggested googling it to find whatever info you want from whatever sources you want. I mentioned "only 30% regret getting them". 30 % is not 75% so not sure why you are detailing with your attacks. No, you said (and I quote) " About 40% of Americans have tattoos. Only 30% state they regret it" Unless you left some words out, you're stating 3/4 of those with tattoos regret them. Then you linked me to a site which misrepresented the data in saying "75 percent of their 600 respondents admitted to regretting at least one of their tattoos" I'm not attacking, I'm simply asking you to prove your statement because I think it's bollocks.

Tattoo regret is a thing because of the permanence, so it's best to wait and be sure. Dermatologists and plastic surgeons are seeing more and more business with tattoo removal requests. So best to be very certain it's right for you.
Haydn
Hello, Tattoos, no issue. As long as it's not... 'Get it here' or 'Heaven this way' Usually these tattoos are followed by an introduction to French Ticklers. So, someone told me.... @basil67Bollocks always gets a like.

Okay I’m genuinely confused doesn’t that mean only 40% of Americans have tattoos. Then out of all (100% ) of that 40% only 30% regret them? So it would be closer to 1/ 4 than 3/4? Where am I mixed up? btw I’m back on the “really want a tattoo” wagon. I don’t know. If I keep wanting one for years and years maybe it’s time to bite the bullet? 1
glows
You're going to run into issues any time you expect someone else to answer this question for you. It's too personal and it's neither right nor wrong. I think you should think about it carefully and quell the urge from outside or external validation. You don't need it if you're certain about something. That you have to ask suggests you are not ready for a tattoo. This is why I have discouraged you from getting one despite being tattooed myself. I designed most of my tattoos and drew them (several large pieces, not small one-two inch ones). I never thought to myself: "I feel like getting one today." They were at least a year in the making for each one because I drew them out and stenciled them myself. They have meaning to me. I'm sharing this to give you some perspective only. This is a personal choice.

Do your research on artists in your area and make sure you pick an artist that specializes in the work you're interested in. Some are more focused on abstract, black and white or realism and portraits. Speaking from personal experience the artist matters so look at different portfolios. Go for a free consultation. The work you draw might not be easily transferred on to ink or age well. A reputable artist will tell you if your lines are too close for example.

Friend of friends and done a ton of their work. He’s already approved my design. I wish my ex would have done it, he’s seriously the best around, but let’s just say i wouldn’t him with that now lol The only thing is I want it on my forearm which I think is the perfect spot for it, I just don’t know if that’s a good place to start lol Edited August 16, 2021 by Cookiesandough

It is ok to take months or years to think about something like this. Don't rush it. It's your body so do what's best for you.

When I’m 98 on my deathbed be like “tat me up” You may change in 10 years also and want it placed elsewhere or the design changed. For anything that's not feeling right, right then, right timing, right placement, completely right, don't do it. Maybe you'll be 98 or 48 when you decide to go for it. What matters is that you're 100% comfortable at the time and it's nothing you'd trade anything else for now or later down the line. Some people also do cover ups or alter and refresh the design later on. I added on some shading to a piece I drew at 21 10 years later but all my ink has remained unchanged. I wear a lot of sunscreen or long tops if I'm on the ocean or kayaking. I don't really wrinkle and have stayed the same size as my 20s so nothing much has changed over time. I think this is a concern for some on whether ink ages well. This is usually individual and also dependent on how skilled the artists are.

Andy_K
Yes it'll reduce your dating options. But have you considered that it might also improve the quality of them? Are you more likely to get on well with the kind of guy who hates it when girls have tattoos, or the kind of guy who is cool with it?
NuevoYorko
What's your purpose in dating. "Many dating options" is all you mention. Any attractive person has "many dating options, and from the way you speak about yourself you are exceptionally beautiful; seems like most men who cross your path fall for you immediately and you then dump them in various creative ways - even the ones you find unsavory. If I've put this together correctly, even if your dating options decrease by 50% due to a tat on your forearm, you'll still have plenty of guys to date and ghost. 🤔 I say, go for it.

Author Cookiesandough
[ ] So for the past week I have decidedly not wanted a tattoo at all. I just don’t think I’m compelled quite enough. Maybe it’s the commitment and permanency. Whatever it is, it’s not for me. [ ] thank you all again for helping me make this decision?
