Keenly Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 I'm sure there are a few dead threads floating around in the ethos some where, but I was just absolutely amazed at the accuracy of this. Putting into words what I never could, unparalleled accuracy, and mind boggling introspection. 60 questions later, and it knew what I had for dinner on my 8th birthday, what the inverse of my lucky number was, and how many Dr Pepper's I drink a day on average. Well... not really, but still I was blown away about how this test knew more about me than I seem to have known about myself. I'm assuming many of you have also taken this as well? Normally I hate these kinds of personality tests but this one I would highly recommend if for no other reason than to learn about yourself. 3
GoreSP Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Normal - this isn't just an online test written by a random guy for fun. These questions and results were developed by psychiatrists, based on actual and accurate research. My employer has a workshop that tests your learning style and results are also so accurate it's scary. What was your result? (If you don't mind sharing...)

ISFJ , and it won't let me go back to see the percentages without retaking the test, which to be honest, I'm not sure if I can take it again and get the exact same answer. Some of the questions were brutal and took me a few minutes, but when I read about the results, I didn't even have words. 2
Jono85 Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Not trying to rain on your parade, but I'm taking a "Personality" Psyc course right now, and there are a few knocks on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator test. 1. It classifies people into types; you're either extroverted or introverted. In reality, majority of people are neither extreme introverted, nor extreme extroverted and fall in the middle somewhere. Therefore you might be classified as an extrovert, but your score is 2 points away from the Introvert side, and 25 points away from another Extrovert who's very extroverted. 2. The test isn't test-retest reliable. In retests, 5 weeks later, 50% of the participants in a study received a different classification in one or more of the type categories. That being said, every personality test will have it's shortfalls. I just wanted to bring forth the counter points to the MBTI.

I usually think stuff like that's rubbish but it's bang on for me, ESTP - the doer down to such little things like getting frustrated with people who want to read instructions or insensately plan My gf's ENFP and that's pretty like her too! That's a good site actually for stuff about your "type" and this one
Phoe Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 (edited) I am INTJ I fit the description perfectly. https://www.personalitypage.com/INTJ.html http://typelogic.com/intj.html . Edited February 9, 2014 by Phoe 1

Interesting stuff, though not high on my priority list anymore. Living and staying healthy take precedence over psychological analysis these days. 1
Shepp Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 I am INTJ I fit the description perfectly. The scientist, ay? Now every time you post I'm gonna imagine you conducting experiments with test tubes & Bunsen burners! 1
regine_phalange Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 I'm an INTJ, and the descriptions I have read are very accurate
HokeyReligions Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 I dont put much stock in these. Im completely different every time weI take it yet I'm always honest in my answers.
FitChick Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 I don't know of anyone who suddenly changed their self destructive behavior after taking that test. It's just navel gazing. I've taken the test at least twice over the years getting a different result each time. I am more impressed by a detailed astrology natal chart interpreted by a real astrologer and not a computer.
Syreeni Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 I'm INFJ. The description was amazingly accurate.
Els Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Welcome to the Myers-Briggs bandwagon! Yes, I do think the typology is interesting at the very least, and can be quite insightful, especially in understanding other people and why they do what they do. However, I think some people also take it too far, especially on LS - I think there were a few threads about people who actually subscribe to the 'ideal partner' suggestions in Myers-Briggs and wondered whether it would be a good idea to eliminate suitors solely based on that... I don't need to elaborate on how terrible an idea that is, of course. There is far more to the individual than MBTI classification. I'm INFP bordering on INTP. 1

To be honest, I think it has about as much accuracy as a cold reader talking to the dead. I think the person taking the test sees the accuracy because they want to see it.

Even more inaccurate. Might as well go and see Madame Zelma in her dingy shop that smells vaguely of weed...

kiss_andmakeup Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Myers-Briggs has proven eerily accurate for me. Additionally, I've taken it multiple times over the past ten years, in various states of mind, and have always been determined INFJ. The consistency is pretty incredible.
ThaWholigan Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Pretty consistent eNFP. Has rarely ever changed.
pickflicker Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 (edited) That's because you know nothing about it. Lol....funny. I find it funny that you consider Myer-Briggs to be navel gazing (no argument there), but that astrology is more accurate. Next you'll be telling us don't go to the doctor, homeopathy FTW!! KathyM Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 I think the Myers-Briggs personality test is pretty good at giving an accurate personality profile and determining which professions are compatible with a person's personality type. It accurately predicted both my first and second choice of career. 1
Eternal Sunshine Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 I'm INFP/INFJ. It's always been very accurate. INFJ probably even more so
Shepp Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 I think the person taking the test sees the accuracy because they want to see it. it's an intresting one - that's always the kind of way I thought It would work - vague descriptions that could be taken to apply to loads of people...and I do think there's an element of that. BUT I can't deny what's in black in white in front of me, if I read about ESTP, there's probably at the most 2 sentences that I don't agree with, or maybe i just can't see it in myself, where as if I pick another one randomly, say INFP, there's at most 2 sentences that could be seen as accurate to me - and that's 'good listener', 'will fight for their cause' - which are pretty vague and would probably be true for 60% of the population' And that's not even factoring in the more freakish coincidences like 'should work in emergency sevices', 'deep hatred for instruction booklets','good story teller' I don't pretend to know how it works, but there's got to be something to it, to be able to get some stuff so bang on! 1

Yeah, I've actually read many of the descriptions and most don't fit me well, either. The descriptions of EST/FJ, the exact opposite of what I am, are both ridiculously unsuitable. So I agree that there is probably some accuracy to MBTI, even if it isn't 100%. 1
