brainygirl Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 I hate to say this, but who cares how they take their pictures? If I use a picture that was taken at a family get together, then most likely I will be shown sitting under some wiggling child or in the middle of making food because my father (the designated picture taker at to-dos) seems incapable of waiting until I'm ready and looking nice to take a picture. If I have my 11 year old do it, I guarentee that he'd chop off my head, or irritate me so much in the process that it would be impossible to get a good pic. So, I take them myself, I don't own a studio space or a tri pod or light meters. If I want to take a self portrait I have to be holding the camera to do it. I've found that a mirror works better than holding the camera and pointing it at myself. Why should that be a point of contention for you? Those little pics that you see on OKcupid and plentyoffish are so small and compressed that they aren't really going to give you a very good idea of what the person looks like anyway. I met a guy off POF, looked short in his pics because of how it was compressed, he's six - four.
phineas Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 ..... If they show cleavage, it's bad lol They are showing one of their better features. If they were at a bar, I'd be checking out the cleavage / dimensions of the boobs anyway, as most men do lol I'm too old to hang out in bars & don't want a woman pushing 40 who thinks cleavage is the best way to attract a mature male.
bittersweet memories Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 Why do you care? I'm not trying to be snippy; I'm honestly curious. You seem (from your threads) to dwell on small, inconsequential discrepancies that occur between men and women (i.e. "women can get away with ______ but if a guy does it it's not okay!"). Why the fascination with things like this? I've never taken a picture of myself in a mirror or in a car, so I can't really answer your question, but I'd venture a guess that your last post hit the nail on the head; they were having a good hair day or thought they looked nice or whatever, and decided to snap a picture. I agree with you here! Who freakin cares.. Pictures are so decieving anyway of course they are gonna put the best picture up. Phone cameras are the best. The picture is always a little blur and makes you look better than you really are. That is probably why so many take pictures with their cell phone. It's up to the guy to request more pictures before going out on a date. Up to you.

bittersweet memories Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 They are using the Myspace angles. OMG...that is so funny and good luck guys! Pictures are so decieving!
brainygirl Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 OMG...that is so funny and good luck guys! Pictures are so decieving! I didn't see what was so wrong with a couple of those . . . . . . others were definitely deceptive in the way they were cropped and edited.
Jemay Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 I'm being totally serious, and I would like to get serious answers. If you browse through dating site pics, you will find probably over 80% of the women have either taken a pic of themselves in the bathroom mirror, or in the driver seat of their car. What is the attraction with this ? I would think that if you were trying to look your best, you'd take some time to make sure you got a good pic. At least with an actual camera and not a phone. Do you just hop in your car, look in the mirror and think "Ooo I look good today, let me take a pic" ? - - Dont tell me what guys do on the sites, go make your own thread about it . Maybe you can answer why guys seem to do the same! Plenty of times do I come across the pic of a guy no shirt, jeans, and that little flash in the mirror.... My guess is that most people are hopeful to find the love of their life but don't really believe it and therefore they invest little effort in it, i.e. putting up a nice profile, nice pics, etc. Another thing is, sitting in front of camera posing shots are normally really stupid.... at least I would feel silly doing so
phineas Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 You are never to old to hang out in a bar..I have seen some HOT 40 year old woman and men.. It's all about confidence and attitude.. Oh, i'm going as a date to a wedding with a HOT 38 yr old. I know their out there. i'm going though because I also like her personality & am interested in her as a person. As i've started getting out of the house more i've met a shocking amount of single women my age (around 38) that are very attractive but are lacking everywhere else. It's like they havn't grown past the college mentality where if you show some cleavage guys will fight over who gets to buy your next drink. It's a real turn off to me.
Crazy Magnet Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 I had a mirror shot as my profile pic, but it wasn't your typical shot I don't think. One of my hobbies is photography, so I busted out the D90 and set up some neat color contrasts and funky angles and yep, you can see my camera in the shot, but I liked it that way. I like photography, why not show that off in my profile pic? I really don't understand the car/mirror shot with the phone. My 14 yo cousin does that and while it's cool for 14 it's not so cool at 30.

Nothing wrong with a "little" cleavage..You gotta leave something to their imagination but a little is not bad. Just sayin! But I've seen some woman showing way to much that I feel really embarrased for them.

I just don't see any redeeming qualities in a woman who puts herself out on display like that.
Enchanted Girl Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 There are tons of cameras out there with auto photo options on them. And most of these women talk about doing stuff with their friends all the time, so I dont buy that "having to ask someone" line. I think a lot of them probably havent told anyone they are on the site, thus the need for the mirror pic. What about their kids taking a pic ? I think there are plenty of options besides the lame mirror pics. Oh, I see. I've taken mirror pics, but I don't actually own one of those cameras. I actually have to buy disposable cameras that let you get a CD of the pictures so you can post them online and a lot of them don't have an automatic feature like that. I did have one that did, but I had nowhere to place it that was high enough for it to actually take a picture of my face. I could only get shots of my chest instead. XD So I have taken a few of those mirror pics and also those pics where someone holds out their arm and points the camera at themselves because I didn't feel like asking my brother to take the pic for me.

I am 38 and dont consider myself "hot" but alot of men do. I look younger than my age and take care of myself. I rarely meet guys my age who are single! I guess I'm not looking in the right places. Glad you found a women your age.

Glad you found a women your age. You sound a lot like her. Actually, drop the "hot" part & change single guys to single girls & you sound like me also. 38 is a tough age to be single. From what I hear it gets better at 40. for men.

Why does it get better at 40 for men? What does 40 do to women? We have crappy luck after that or what?
Author Serenitynow Posted July 29, 2010 Author Posted July 29, 2010 How does it get better from 39 to 40 ?
jennifer4 Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 I hope it gets better for women at 40 as well! I don't think so though.
