After asking me out in a second date, guy asks What did you think of the date?

Went on a first date which I thought was OK, I couldn't really get a read on him (if he even liked me or was attracted to me).

Later in evening he texts saying he would love to see me again.

The next day we were texting small talk and he asks me What I thought of the date?

Never encountered this before.

Is this because he isnt sure? Was curious what might be driving this question

I never ended up answering this and he circled back next day if I would still be up to see him again.

He is mid 30s, working professional, seems like potentially looking for something more serious but who knows

So go out with him again if you're interested. I think he's just trying to get a read on whether you'd be up for it. It is kind of a question out of left field, and it may have been a little more direct than what you're used to, but I don't see it as a red flag.

If you liked him, there's really no harm in going on a second date and seeing where it leads. Maybe his nerves got the better of him, and in a way he was really asking, "Did you like me?" or "Are you interested too?" It could simply be that he's a little unsure of himself or wanted some reassurance that the interest was mutual.
