jack019944
So, I matched with a girl on hinge, and she sent me a message saying we should go on a date. I will say though she didn't say it exactly like that it was more related to something on my profile. My point is how can I tell whether this person is being serious or not? basil67
I imagine she was being serious about going on a date in order to meet you and see if you connect
Georgia46
What exactly did she write? I can then tell you my opinion 😎

So to give a little context to this there is a photo of me playing lawn bowl and I put a small joke about it that it was my goal to be "super awesome at lawn bowls" This is basically how that chat exchange has been so far: Her: We should go play lawn bowls champ Me: Lawn bowls sounds like a fantastic idea champ! It's a great way to enjoy the outdoors and have some friendly competition. Have you played before? or would this be your first time? Her: I'm a Lawn bowl virgin 🍒 This is exactly how it's gone so far. How do I respond to that? Tbh I'm not sure what to make of it lol.

Georgia46
I have no idea what lawn bowls is 😂😂 but why don’t you ask her if she fancies coming to a game of that seeing as that’s what you both talked about? then maybe for some drinks after? 😎

Invite her out to discuss giving her some lawn bowl lessons. As far as 'liking' you, it makes no sense to put measurements on that when you're strangers. I mean, how much do you 'like' her before ever even meeting her?
Sony12
Is Hinge considered to be a bit of a hookup site? Keep in mind most people who send messages like that are often sending the same type of message to ten or more other people. Most guys don't get very many initial messages so when they do get them they tend to make a bigger deal of it than it actually is. Edited October 14, 2024 by Sony12

Sony12
Technically from what I am reading she didn't actually ask him out on a date. She just gave a pretty standard opening line that most people give when they send messages on dating sites. She may accept a date or she may not. You'll just have to officially bring up the idea of getting together and see how she responds. Edited October 14, 2024 by Sony12
Alpacalia
"We should go on a date" is inferring just that.

From what the OP has said their conversation was she didn't actually say that. He just said a joke in his profile and she made a quick comment about the joke. It's a very common opening line people make on dating sites. Often times it doesn't mean anything at all. Him taking it as her asking him out on a date was just him trying to figure out what her message meant.

She was inferring that she's never played lawn bowls before. You could respond with something like, "Well, I'll have to show you the ropes then. I'm a seasoned pro 😉" Or make a joke about being her lawn bowls mentor. Ultimately, just have fun with it and keep the conversation light and playful. As for telling if she's serious or not, why not just ask her? Say something like, "Are you serious about wanting to go play lawn bowls or are you just pulling my leg?" This shows that you're interested in going but also takes a bit of pressure off of her if she was just joking around. Good luck! I would have lost interest in you by now, btw, if I am going to go on a limb and suggest a date and if someone replies this monotone style, I would just unmatch right away. She tentatively suggested you go out on a date. Do you want to go or not? If yes, discuss and set up date and time with her. There is nothing complicated here. Hopefully you realize this is just a first date and it’s way too really to tell whether anything will come out of it. It could be just her being friendly and flirty, or her looking for a casual hookup, it’s impossible to know that now. You’ll know more after the first date.

Just ask her if she'd like to meet you, and if so, ask where she's located. Come back with a place that's halfway between you or a bit close to her, and offer her two options of day and time. Hinge's algorithm is designed to help you connect with friends of friends, or maybe friends of friends of friends. I think it's supposed to try and emulate how we used to date in the olden days where we actually did meet friends of friends and date them...and it worked because we were all similar kinds of people
