The Unexpected Twist: an Evening at a Networking Event

Recommended Posts

I am reflecting back to a weird evening. I went to some first time networking event, but little did I know, this would turn out to be the strangest hour of my life.

At the location of the place, it was a pretty dark craft brewery house. I knew it was a brewery house and restaurant, and that it was supposed to be a food tasting event, but it was pretty dark and empty. I had thought probably I'd made some mistake and went to another type of event, but decided to go inside and ask the bartender about the networking event.

To my surprise, he responded that there wasn't any networking event booked for the night. I felt rather silly and confused. I decided to have a seat down at the bar and have a drink and then make my way back home.

As I was sipping my drink, a group of people came in and sat at the table beside me. There was also a very good-looking man who went and sat directly behind me when I sat down. I went to the bathroom, came back, and moved seats. Then he sat right alongside me. He started talking to me after about 10 minutes, and we had a really lovely conversation with quite a few sparks flying. ????

In any case, the group never arrived, I excused myself to the bathroom again and when I came out I decided it was time to leave. I said bye to the bartender and the man to whom I had been speaking. I lightly touched his shoulder and thanked him for the interesting conversation. Then I excused myself and went home.

Well, as it would be, it became a very memorable and unplanned evening. I guess you never know what will happen when you try something new. First, I thought this was some kind of setup, and that I was going to get robbed or something ????, but it turned out to be quite a different time.

Who knows, maybe someday I'll see this mysterious man again.

It turns out the group was outside and I totally feel like a dumb monkey.

Well, there you have it, my weird and unexpected evening at a supposed networking event. It just goes to show that sometimes the most memorable experiences can happen when you least expect it.

I've done a few more events with the same group, I was about to write them off, but I am glad I stuck with it. They're a cool group of people.

So, get out there and try new things, because you never know what kind of strange and wonderful experiences you might have!

It almost sounds like that you're slightly regretting about of a "missed opportunity"?   Next time if you bump into him again, be sure to get his number (if he's single/available).  Glad you had a good night out and that you found your group in the end.

Consider seeing if anyone from this group or another friend would like to meet up at that bar again. Maybe you'll find him there.

I think so...But I was also okay with it at the same time.  You know when you have that split second decision when you can really lay it on about how much you enjoyed talking to the person or just stay a little modest in the goodbye?  I usually go for the modest.  I had a feeling about this guy and saw his eyes open wide and a big, faintly surprised smile. I have this group now and I do enjoy it.

Truth be told, if I see someone once in my life, I know I will probably never see them again.
