Do people believe in virtues any more?

The last 30-40 years, the parenting has sucked...That's led us to where we are at this point...And its probably worse now than it was ever...

As a parent of a 14 year old, you simply would not believe what parents let kids get away with...They dress like slobs, are rude/impolite, slovenly and overweight, smoke/vape/smoke weed, have sex, etc..All under their parents noses...And this is from a place that is middle -upper to upper class...Id imagine in the poorer areas its even worse..

They treat their own parents like crap, and the parents seemingly do nothing about it...They are probably too wrapped up in their own lives/problems and just don't demand anything from their kids...Too much time trying to be their kids BFF or some other shyt......

So what kind of adults do you expect those kids to become...??

First it seems that the basic understanding of the term for people under the age of 35 is questionable. For example, do we as a society as a whole value integrity? I can list many others.like common sense, logic and many other things it seems to be a lost concept. Do we attribute this to the break down of families, traditions, the disappearance of small community churches replaced by mega churches and social media?

The further we get from God (people and society) the worse everything becomes. It's that simple.

So was he using the porn to turn himself on enough to rape her, or was it perverted stuff and he was using it as some sort of a manual? or a bit of both.

I despair.

We seem so technologically advanced and culturally sophisticated and we live in a "golden" world in the West, but the reality of life for many still seems to be touched by barbarism and violence.

Humans are a blood thirsty lot and so that trait is never far from the surface.

It was just garden variety. Rape almost always includes forced fellatio but it was just him needing to do it with a two-dimensional woman because he can't handle a real one.

If I had to get inside his cesspool of a mind, I would say that this is simply the very essence of objectifying women. If I had to guess, I'd say he spent a lot of time masturbating and probably had trouble with live women. But he wanted the tactile experience, so he grabbed one, whoever was handy, and then did his usual thing with the woman in the magazine while he got himself off. You know, you'd be surprised what a high number of rapists are inadequate in both the broader psychological sense and downstairs. They are inadequate psychologically to interact normally with a woman. So they incapacitate and rape and in this case, do their best to pretend she's anything more than a vessel. And I can't remember if this one was literally inadequate as well. I don't think so, but a lot of them also rape strangers (preferably unconscious ones) because they can't even get it up. This way they don't have to deal with failure to launch if it happens.

I attribute it to a steady mudslide in parenting and role modeling, plus overreliance on internet and social media and not enough real-life interaction where you can't get away with so much crap or you won't have any friends or dates.

Social media makes people lazy. People don't have to work for anything anymore, and live in this nether world of false popularity and being liked. You have to be quite grounded or smart enough to see through all the junk, and i'm not sure how many people are, to the extent of completely blocking it out.

I've cancelled mine. Today. Don't regret it, and figure that not ONE person will care, and i'm probably right! Got sick of being a target to be a) marketed to, and b) an object to reinforce certain people's popularity.

l do in all sorts of ways, most def'.

Just read through any dating threads and the like to not even to scratch the surface.

The in your face over exposure to "everything " now , the whole internet and media l think will turn out to be the most destroying thing man's come up with yet, worse than bombs or weapons, when we see where all this leads to in 20 or 50yrs time.

It's just mind boggling sad to think where all this and kids growing up then and people will be in 20 yrs time.

And l tell ya , what some schools are teaching kids these days is disturbing too and that's putting it politely.

Even the way they're teaching but you'd think we could at least still feel safe in education if anywhere wouldn't you. l'm just glad my daughters coming out of her education and schools soon and not starting in prep. And that she was already 12 when all the chat apps really started taking off.

But, sometimes teaching is a nearly impossible task because of all of the behavior problems the teachers have to deal with. It leaves no time for teaching. I've been watching a show on TV (Viceland channel, I believe) called "Last Chance High." It's about the only "last stop before juvy" high school in Chicago. These poor kids in this school.....they are all SO angry because of terrible home lives....anger and fighting is all they know. Many of them will even say, "all I want to do is fight. I have so much anger in me." And the teachers play referee all day long and try to squeeze in a little teaching. It seems to me that it's 80% classroom management and 20% teaching!

My world is just so completely different than this....it's so eye-opening and completely heartbreaking to see it. I was telling a friend of mine about the show recently, and he lives in Chicago. He said even the people who manage to "get out" often "go back in" (to the ghetto) because being "out" is like a whole 'nother culture they have no clue how to relate to/live in so they go back to what they know :(.

PS , when l said l do btw , that was l do believe social media and everything around it is doing all this, yes. Most def'.

Hell 50% of marriage breaks ups start with an affair on FB , texting and emailing,

Your wife or husband can be curdled up with you on the couch or in bed and talking to their affair at the same time. Nice.!

FB alone has broken up more marriages and families than anything else on this planet.

l think it's also caused more suicides than anything else on the planet too.

Not to mention it has given the "next generation" a completely ridiculous idea of what "success" is. Just this morning I saw a show on TV called "Growing up Supermodel." It is a "reality" show about the children of former super models, and all of them are also trying to be models. But the way it's "done" these days is by marketing themselves on Instagram and tagging whatever retailer they are "working for." So, it's selfies, and they get paid based on their number of followers and likes. Their entire self worth is wrapped up in their Instagram accounts! It is insane!

  • 4 weeks later...

IMHO the good parents tried to teach virtues to their children, but most lost to many factors. The biggest probably was to bad friends, bad tv role models and actually believing in bad music lyrics. Another is parents working too much and not having any time to talk to their children. Kids will look for directions and unfortunately get bad ones and so starts the free-fall.
