A question for the BS's, if your WS had offered an open marriage instead of cheating

Once during my H affair, when he was waffling back and forth between me and OW, he actually mentioned would it be possible to have both? Bring her into our family? I know he knew it wouldn't work he was just torn between both.

 

Me and the OW just laughed at him, it was the only thing we agreed on

FYI, while ancient Rome was strictly monogamous in marriage fidelity was not expected by either husband or wife.

 

I agree. The rationale for imposition of the laws was not because the average Roman believed in fidelity, but because monogamous groups had a military advantage. Monogamous groups produce more offspring (potential soldiers) and lower-ranking soldiers would not desert as often in search of wives. It's like how the US offers veterans social services for their sacrifice. In Rome, if you served in the military and paid taxes, in exchange, you were given the right to marry a woman. Social monogamy was imposed by other cultures also heavily invested in the business of war.
