Is my bf on pot?

I think my bf is secretly on pot. He calls this mysterious voicemail number all the time and leaves his name and number, and every week he writes a check for $160 (is that enough to buy marijuana in L.A.?) to somebody.

 

Only thing that makes me think so is I don't know what else would cost $160 a week, and one time when we went on vacation, I told him I saw black stuff floating in the toilet, and he said it was a joint his friend gave him to try out.

 

Thing is why would a drug dealer take a check? Wouldn't they prefer cash? And it obviously creates a paper trail if anything ever happened.

Unless he sells it, which I doubt because $160 worth of weed wouldn't even be worth selling.

 

I would say that a drug dealer wouldnt take a check, but it depends on weather the "drug dealer" is a friend or not.

 

I better stop now before it starts to appear as if I've had experience in this issue

 

But before I go, a steady and weekly payment of $160 almost sounds like a child support payment.. does he have kids?

It started out as $80/wk 4 months ago, and then changed to $160/wk when he became very stressed with his job. I don't know maybe he IS selling it... he had recently deposited $5K that was not from his job, and didn't tell me where it's from.

 

Maybe he IS a big stoner, but I can't really tell any signs of it from his behavior, and his apt. doesn't smell, and I don't see any bongs or whatever- maybe he just hides it really well.

 

As far as I know, he doesn't have any kids. I thought child support was paid monthly, not weekly. Plus, he spent all the holidays with me, and most of the weekends, and those mysterious phone calls he made lasted only 1 min.- he would just leave his name and number every time, and that's it. I called the number, and it belongs to a member of a rock band who is admittedly big on weed (per his web site).

 

Even if he was smokin' the stuff, I don't see why he had to keep it such a big secret from me since I'd already seen it floating around in the toilet and didn't make a big deal about it that one time.

 

Then I thought maybe he was paging an escort service, but what can you get for $80-$160 in L.A. really?

Hmmm... I suppose he could be selling some type of drugs. The 5k that he deposited and didn't tell you about concerns me.

 

I think you should confront him and see what he says. I doubt he's hiring call girls on a weekly basis, so I don't think you should worry about that so much.

 

I would ask him about it, and see what he says.

 

How long have you been with him?

 

Just to let you know, sometimes child support is paid monthly, but where I live in Illinois, it's paid to the woman weekly. I'm not saying he's doing that either, but it just sounded like a possiblilty at first.

Maybe he's on probation. They usually have to pay and check in all the time so the PO knows where they are.

 

If he was smokin' that much weed you could tell. And no one, not even my friend, will take a check for ANY drug. And I've done a f*ck ton of drugs and was married to a drug dealer who is now in prison, and dated another guy who sold drugs as well.

Can you think of anything else that he could be writing checks that big for? Child support maybe? Why did you make pot your choice of conclusion. He could be paying for lap dances or something

I'm afraid to confront him just yet, and I've never done drugs so I don't know how things work or how much they're supposed to cost, etc.

 

I found out child support could be paid weekly and for that amount relative to his paycheck, but as far as i know, he has no children. He was never married, and the phone calls just don't check out. No woman, not even emails to anyone.

Even if it were for lap dances or call girls, isn't it weird to pay for with a check? And he's not on parole 'cuz I called the number and it was just some rocker guy, not a copper/PO.

 

I can't think of anything else that such large amounts can pay for- it's been going on a long time, and that $5K deposit stumps me. I'm just wigged because that is a LOT of money going out AND coming in, and he's very secretive about it all.

 

Is $160 really A LOT for pot? How much is it usually for a week's supply? This is L.A., so maybe it's more expensive in street value b/c of higher cost of living? LOL. I don't know!

Depending on the quality, $160 really IS a lot for pot. When I was with my exhusband, who grew pot on a large scale, I smoked massive amounts of dope. Never as much as you are indicating, always $100 tops, for really really *good* pot. Now, I smoke maybe $30/week. And I smoke every day. If that tells you anything.

I spend a lot a week for weed. $20/Day And I smoke everyday as well. $30/Week Otter? I'm living in the wrong state. I don't buy weight....So my habit can get pretty expensive. But $160, he might be buying weight and flipping it. Thats where he's getting his money back from. How do you know about the checks he writing, if I might ask?

Yeah, you can get quarters here for $20. They are ****ty quarters, but 7 grams of pot nonetheless. I smoke about 3.5-4 grams a week now. I've gotten better, mainly because with my job I can't smoke before work (I tried and was way too out of it). And we have mids, like homegrown outdoor shyte.

 

Regardless, if he was high all the time you would probably notice it. I would anyways. I'm always surprised at people who don't notice stoners. I mean what normal person loses track of what they are saying in the middle of a .... wait, what?

Seriously though,.....I think you would definitely smell it on him. Theres nothing you can really do about the smell. I have tons of friends who smoke it. They all think they cover it up pretty well,.. but they dont. I can always smell it. Plus,...Ive never known them to pay the exact same amount religiously. $160 sounds like alot of weed too for someone once a week. I doubt thats what its for. Is the black floaties in the toilet your only proof? Why dont you just ask what the 160's for? I dont know anyone though who writes checks for weed. That seems pretty stupid....even for a stoner.

thanks for your input, everyone. so, it's not likely pot unless he's dealing it then, i guess.

 

i know about the checks 'cuz he gave me his password to pay some bills for him when he was out of the country.

 

he does like his munchy foods, but just once in awhile, and he never smells- my nose is very sensitive. also, he's very talkative, and never loses his train of thought.

 

so it possibly could be child support, but like i say, the phone calls just don't check out. it's a man's voice, and there are no phone calls/emails to a woman, and it's always just 1 min.

 

i knew him for 5 years before he was my bf, and he never mentioned having a kid. initially, i thought he was paying his boss back for an advance, but there turned out to be no advance.

 

could it be that he's doing some kind of gambling? with checks? and won $5K?

i cannot see who he is writing the checks to. it only shows the date cashed and the number of the check. i would have to order a copy of it to see, and i won't do that. they'll charge it to his acct., and he'll know.

Well,..........all you can do is ask. If you have suspicions that hes doing drugs and you dont want any part of that lifestyle,...then I think you SHOULD ask. You have a right to place yourself in whatever situation you want as well as take yourself OUT of them to.

the more i think about it, the less likely it's drugs. can't be escort services either. if i were a hooker, i'd want cash.

 

a friend of mine thinks he took out a loan from a loan shark, and pays it back weekly or is gambling on the stock market (but that doesn't check out w/ calls to the rocker dude)... friend says loan sharks sometimes require weekly paybacks to ensure the borrower doesn't skip town without paying. i dunno.

 

one time, my bf took the day off of work, and in the middle of sex, he suddenly said he had to leave his name & number for a guy from tech support about his computer before he forgets (& i only let it happen 'cuz we'd spend hours in bed canoodling, etc., and i thought the guy expected his phone call)... it was almost exactly at 11am. well, it wasn't to tech support- i found out later it was to that rocker dude's vm! why wouldn't he just tell me the truth and why was the call so urgent? and no one called him back the rest of the day. weird!!!

 

is he just crazy and calling the same number, leaving his name & number for no reason?

Does he gamble on sports? Is he overly interested in watching games that a normal guy in your area wouldn't watch...like a UNC vs. Virginia football game? That could be it. I *cough* knew a guy that ran a small scale sports book on a college campus, and once guys got in over their heads, he wouldn't let them bet anymore and put them on a mutually agreed upon payment plan...similar to what your bf's doing. Just a thought.

HA! Yeah,..good point. I didnt even think of that. Yeah,..Ive known guys who regularly had to pay up every week cuz they lost bets on sports. They even DID write checks because the bookie guy was a friend and they trusted eachother. That could be it.

But,...I think you have a right to ask where THAT kind of money came from (the 5k). Its not from his job,..and you have a right to know if he is involved in something illegal that you may be involved in due "Guilty by Association"

Ah... Yes, he is really into sports, esp. basketball and that final fantasy stuff. He did mention that next time we go to Vegas, he'd like to go to the sports book section, but last time we went there, he didn't show any big interest in gambling at all!

 

The guy he's calling could be his bookie, and he needs to get his bet in by 11am, before the games start, but I don't know why he would keep it a big secret from me.

 

Is there any gambling involved in videogames? He's a BIG videogame nut!

 

You're right, scarly, I should just ask him, but I just don't have the nerve to quite yet. Don't know how to bring it up...

I thought the $5k could also be his tax refund, but most people have it directly deposited. His was deposited at the ATM.

here's another weird thing... he just wrote 2 separate checks for $160. why not just write one for $320? why do they have to be exactly $160 every time?

Well it could be a "minimum" payment if this is some sort of organized debt or it could be something he has worked out with a bookie. The second check may have been post dated. Who knows? But,...I HAVE heard about people betting on video games online. I know NOTHING about it, but, that does sound familiar. Man,...............this is killing ME now,.....lol..... jUsT aSk HiM aLReAdY !!!
