Yes. In fact, there WERE kids there under 12, and they seemed just fine. In fact, one of them, who couldn't have been more than 7, asked to have his picture taken with us "Jedi".

Or even bringing any of this up? You'd think chewie would maybe have mentioned to Han or Luke that he MET a jedi or two once. CONTINUITY, Mr. Lucas....continuity.... I think Lucas JUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUST couldnt resist putting ONE MORE character in the prequels from the originals.

Yeah, that was one of my very first complaints, after the one about there being too much CGI. It was just a little TOO convenient to have Chewbacca there, especially since he was awfully close to Yoda. Just didn't sit right with me. In fact, the whole Kashyyyk thing just seemed thrown in there. Don't get me wrong, I love Chewie, but it didn't seem to make any sense.

There were definitely some plot holes left, but it was still a good movie. It was NOT better than the orginal three. Maybe on par with ROTJ.

No I would not bring a child under 10...the fight scenes were violent with decapitations...and watching anakin get burned alive...that was kind of hard to watch...not to mention...the film is very morbid and dark...it definetly not a happy film...and makes you wish it ended diferently than it had to

The decapitations, like the one or two there were, were completely NOT graphic. In the first case, you see Anakin's lightsabers cross, but you're looking at him, not at who he's decapitating. Anakin burns partially but obviously doesn't die. And we all know that Padme dies, but while it's sad, it's hardly graphic. Actually, I think the end shows hope. It shows the twins being given to their respective families, and Obi Wan riding off into the twin, er, sunsets? And Darth Vader next to Palpy. Nothing really shocking. If your kids aren't that much into Star Wars anyway, I wouldn't take them, but if they really want to see it, I don't think it's bad.

Even PG movies might contain nudity. It seems that when I was little, the G-rated films slowly morphed into what I used to know as PG, or even PG-13. Kids are now "allowed" to see things that I never would have been allowed to view as a child. Also, the last Star Wars movie may as well be marketed to little children; the PG-13 only means "a parent probably ought to accompany your five-year-old".

This isn't all about Star Wars. I've known things to be marketed to me since a very young age. Anything big, especially movies, gets turned into a variety of products for all age levels, regardless of whether the movie is intended for very young children. I don't think the original Star Wars movies were really intended for five-year-olds, either, but little kids still watched them, and toys were made for little kids.

This is just the same old thing happening yet again. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if certain expletives won't be bleeped out on television in a decade or so, or if sex might be shown on American TV more vividly. When I stop to think about what children are allowed to watch now, and what was acceptable for me as a child, I notice that the world has changed quite drastically.

By the way: Go see Episode III. I don't care if you hated Episode I and II. I couldn't stand those films, but Episode III was absolutely amazing. I caught the 12am showing today/last night, and it was well worth getting into the theater an hour early for decent seats. For anyone who liked the original Star Wars, Episode III is a must-see. Definitely not a disappointment.

Well i know you guys just want everyone to see how great the film was...but itd be like showing a kid The Matrix because you think its an amazing movie...(It is)....but the first time i saw it a got cold sweat and proceeded to ask my mother who i was watching it with to turn it off because the science fiction was just too creepy (I stood through it and it is one of my all time favorite movies where i know all the lines)...regardless i just though this film was very pessimistic...and without the other films in exsistence i would be pissed off waiting for a sequal...ok

But i did love episode 3...its better than 1,2, and 6....go and enjoy it...!!

I only started getting into Star Wars since the new movies came out. I think I have only seen one of the originals. Not sure which one though, I did buy them on DVD (the first three that came out) but haven't gotten around to looking at them. Might have to watch them all (that will take a while) and catch up with the whole story (I know bits of it) before checking out the movie on Sunday night.

I saw in the paper pictures of Sydney's premiere of the movie. They had a pic of a life size Darth Vadar and his soldiers (The ones in the white armour) walking out in the main streets of Sydney. (May have been part of the premiere). That would've been a spin out too see. Especially if you just walked out of the movie. Lol.

I think that kids should go and see it. If you know that they can handle the kind of scences that have been described in the movie. At least George Lucas and the media has given everyone a warning about it.

No, don't take your kid to see it.

He could be so obsessed that he grows up to be the type of person who wastes their brain power determining the validity of the science behind lightsabers.

Please just go watch the movie yourself and make a decision based on what YOU feel is right for YOUR children.

As a parent (and with what I've seen and experienced), I don't trust anyone else's values. Especially when it comes to my kids.

BTW, it has nothing to do with sheltering. It has everything to do with age-appropriate-ness and letting kids be kids. I would catch my ex letting the kids watch questionable stuff and would try to talk some sense into him and he'd use the excuse "Well, I used to watch it and it never bothered me." First of all, things that HE used to watch are NOTHING like the stuff that is available today, not only in content, but in graphics as well. Second, it never "bothered" him, but look how HE turned out. LMAO

So we saw the movie last night. To respect those that have not seen it I will only say that George Lucas got it right and this movie and finally ties 3, 4 & 5 all together. By far the best out of Episodes 1 to 3. I think it would be ok to take a kid to watch, so long as they have seen the other star wars and have idea of why what happens, happens. Great movie though!

I wouldn't take a kid who was under 7 to see this movie. Even for older kids, it would depend upon their ability to understand the concepts of what they're seeing.

Some of the scenes are violent. But really, it's the concepts behind it that are disturbing. It's a matter of being able to understand why a hero becomes a villain.

Since it's shown from Aniken's perspective, it's fodder for great discussion with the older kids....but the younger crowd just isn't going to be able to understand it.

The effects are terrific, but for a really young child....it's alot happening all at once. And since the movie is something like 3 hours long, that's a long time to be on sensory overload.

See it yourself first, Stone. And then, if you decide to make him wait until later....don't feel bad about it. ;)

Certainly NOT a kid movie (big no-no for those under 7). There's a scene where Anakin kills all Jedi apprentices - kids under 7 themselves.

It's not the fight scenes that are the big turn off, but the really cold big picture behind it. Lucas tried to soften it by emphathising the pasionate nature of the main character. In fact, it's a really dark movie, about decept, traison, lie and death. A very sad movie too. Not a children movie.

My 2 cents,

I saw it too, thought it was really awesome but have no plans to take my girl. She is 8, and would watch it and try to understand it - but there are some thematic 'moral delimma' elements (and actions to match!) to it that she wouldn't get at this age. There really wouldn't be a point in taking her.

As for me, it was like the kid in me getting 'Star Wars' closure. Very well done movie. It actually felt like a Star Wars movie this time.

Stone, I agree that you should probably see it first to figure out whether or not it's appropriate for your kids.

That being said, I thought that there were two scenes (already mentioned) that were hard to watch. One in particular was very disturbing.

Also, I remember watching the 2nd movie (#5) in the the theatre when I was a kid. I was TRAUMATIZED for weeks after seeing Luke get his arm cut off!!! I remember vividly crying as I left the theatre...

I saw it today and I won't be taking my 8 year old - the two scenes mentioned above would definitely cause some discussion - I don't think I could explain adequately to help him assimilate the info - I don't think he's ready.

Witch is fine for the adult generation who grew up on Star wars but what really pisses me off about it is STAR WARS is marketed to young children there are STAR WARS MR. PATATO HEADS, Toys in BK happy meals, spoons in cereal, every other Nickloden commercial promotes it, it's on pop tarts it is advertised EVERYWHERE and to children as young as 2.

Why is this marketed to such a young age group if the content of the movie isn't apporiprate for that age? It really pisses me off, my 5 year old desperately wants to see this movie now I don't think I am going to let him.

Darth cut off Luke's hand in ROTJ, right? That was pretty gross for me as a young kid.

At the risk of sounding like a huge nerd,......Did anyone notice the guy standing next to Vader and the Emperor at the end when they were looking out the window at the construction of the death star? It wasnt said to be or anything, but, Im convinced that guy was supposed to be a younger Grand Moff Tarkin. Anyone else notice that?
