Yes, because scientific concepts never have to be modified in the light of new ones. The earth is still flat and the sun revolves around us

Come on, admit it: you're just randomly quoting Einstein - you don't have a clue how relativity would relate to a lightsabre :p

I understand this; it is the most basic/core principle of science. In fact, when I said "That is, unless all our understanding of physics and Einstein's laws on relativity are shown to be totally incorrect", I was stating the same point. My parenthetical note following this statement was merely my educated opinion that it is unlikely our understanding of these principles will change enough to allow us to control light in such a way to create a lightsaber.

Examples: Light is nothing but photons. Photons are extremely difficult to manipulate in any controlled manner. Hypothetically, even if we could manage to get light to conform to the shape of a blade (which would be the most difficult obsticle to overcome in creating this lightsaber), they would pass right through each other while "fighting" (photons do not repel each other). Also, if you would try to "cut" an object using this lightsaber, the photons would either pass through it causing no damage, or immediately bounce off and scatter leaving you with the empty hilt of a now non-existent blade of light; depending on the type of object.

Actually I do. My Real Life occupation is science related, and as I've said, I did a lot of research on this. Look some of it up yourself. ;)

I take issue with this. Well, in a way. My boyfriend is more of a SW fan than anyone I've ever met before. Being a Jedi is his RELIGION. He knows what an Acklay is by the sound it makes! He knows how many tie fighters were on the original Death Star (actually, I know this one too), he can quote the specs of any vehicle, from a Sith infiltrator to an ATAT, and he usually wins SW Trivial Pursuit in one round. It makes me sick, really. I think he's also found a way to create a real lightsaber, but he doesn't have the money to do so. That's probably a good thing, though, knowing him... :p ALL he talks about is Star Wars. Even during sex, which is sad.

I wish he wasn't, either. Although I think a lot of people are "the biggest" fans in different ways. I didn't mean to turn it into a competition. :bunny:

Content review...by me

This latest star wars...goes back into the darkness of empire strikes back...and hopefully i was hoping it would be an R rated film...the amount of emotion in the film and turmoil may be intense...later in this review I will post some spoliers of the more graphics scenes...as well as a website to view other reviews of the film...

Would I bring my 5 year old child to a star wars film being 19 myself ...no...I wouldn't of even let them watch the originals...i think i was still watching disney movies when i was 5...and i think that empire could've easily gotten a pg-13 had it been made in the 90's...the 70's were very lax on ratings...

Major Example ...(Monty Python and The Holy Grail: PG)....

If you child has already seen the other star wars films and you are still nervious my best suggestion would be to view the film yourself and then see if you deem it appropriate or not...ok on to the spoilers...

Those are spoilers?

Man, everyone knows that stuff. Well, ok, most people who like Star Wars do. I want the good stuff. Actually, I know the good stuff. And I'll be seeing it in about 10 hours. *bounce*

I still think you should let your kid see it. I saw The Black Hole when I was four, and while Maximillian scared me a bit and I was terribly saddened by Bob's death, I got over it. And it's a really odd movie. Ironic that it IS a Disney movie.

No, but you may be the smartest one

If you don't think you can cut things with light though, nobody has told you about lasers. Or the ultraviolet catastrophe, since we're quoting Einstein :p

You're right about the lightsabres passing thru each other though... unless the light were simply a byproduct of something else - a different field or force... aarggh, now you've got me doing it!

The jokes just write themselves: is your lightsabre turned on, the deathstar is about to explode, turn to your dark side, trust your feelings, etc...

And my personal favourite: Do or do not do! There is no try

ok TUDOR, sounds good. I remember in 1977 seeing the first S.W. movie. I was twelve yrs old and remember the first scene where that imperial star cruiser goes across the screen and the rumble from the dolby soundtrack, man it was AMAZZING!! woo hoo

My wife is the bigger SW fan of us and she insisted we stay up and watch episodes 4, 5 & 6 last night in preparation for Episode 3 today. I'm pretty geared up for it but I had no idea how hard core she is about her SW!!

It was really good. Still not as great as Empire, but definitely a lot better than Ep.'s I and II. It's dark, but if you have a kid who really likes Star Wars, I don't see why you shouldn't bring them. Nothing particularly scarring. Actually, the scene with the dead children (Jedi) wasn't too graphic or bad at all, and you don't see them being killed. Still too much CGI for my taste. It's like, in the attempt to make things flow smoothly, some things lost their realism. Space scenes and fight scenes were awesome. Did NOT like Darth Vader's first words inside the all-black. Seemed kinda wimpy. Overall, though, great movie.

We went to go see it at the biggest theatre screen in the Midwest. It was a media circus. Tons of people dressed up, including Darth Vader and some storm troopers in actual costume props from the movie, news trucks and cameras, people playing with the really nice lightsabers, and this guy who knows George Lucas who made a real working R2 droid. The droid was awesome. The entire experience was awesome. We were the biggest group in the best Jedi outfits, and lots of people wanted to take pictures of us. We waited for six hours outside the theatre, and just had a total blast.

Needless to say, as I didn't even get to sleep until about 4am, I'm up a little early and kind of tired. :)

Definitely go see it. :p

So were there any questions that were finally answered? Is Darth Vader captain kirks father? Seriously, though...........I was kinda like ,...."C'mON dude!,......If Chewbacca is in THIS movie,..........how does he manange to get through New Hope (which is a name I HATE calling it), Empire, AND Jedi,...without remembering anybody? Or even bringing any of this up? You'd think chewie would maybe have mentioned to Han or Luke that he MET a jedi or two once. CONTINUITY, Mr. Lucas....continuity.... I think Lucas JUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUST couldnt resist putting ONE MORE character in the prequels from the originals.

Now Im not here trying to piss anyone off about Star Wars. Lord knows Im one of the biggest fans. But,..does it bother anyone else that George Lucas left so many HOLES in his storyline? I mean in A New Hope,....Obi-wan says to Luke "I dont seem to remember ever owning a droid" Ok,...I realize that Obi never OWNED R2D2,...but he definitely would've remembered this little robot he went thru all this sh*t with. And the Chewbacca being in this new movie thing,....................oh please. This is a WHOLE freakin galaxy supposedly. How is it that these same few characters just keep "running" into eachother (but never seem to remember eachother or atleast arent bringing it up for some reason)?

And we are supposed to believe that Darth Vader doesnt even REMEMBER thats C3PO in the netted backpack Chewie is carrying in Empire? Uh,.............didnt he BUILD C3PO???? Yoda and Chewbacca meet in EP III this time around and we're supposed to believe that the Ol' Chewster didnt bring Yoda up ONCE the WHOOOOOOOLE time during HOPE, EMPIRE, OR JEDI. You could explain away anything I guess,..but,...this is a movie. If you are going to mess with continuity so blatantly,....you should expect diehard fans to ask these questions and thus,...EXPLAIN it IN the films instead of letting huge nerds say things like "Well maybe its tradition for Wookies to have their memories wiped after a certain age" Uh,...yeah,....whatever nerd........gimme your lunch $....
