If you don't need an income, perhaps you could just pursuit it as a hobby? At least until you can get good enough at it to acquire customers and go out on your own and have your own business. You are right, I have been learning as a hobby, and I have already started to build a portfolio. But it is not happening as fast as I would like, because I am also working.
