My first quote when I joined LS:

Devildog, the full quote is: "He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. When you gaze long into the abyss, the abyss also gazes into you ." - Friedrich Nietzsche

My favorite quote:

"All truly wise thoughts have been thoughts already thousands of times; but to make them truly ours, we must think them over again honestly, till they take root in our personal experience." - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

"The Edge.....there is no honest way to explain it because the only ones who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over" Hunter S. Thompson R.I.P

Yeah, I know I am double posting, but concerning love I could not resist putting this one up:

"That is the true season of love; when we believe that we alone can love, that no one could ever have loved as much before, and that no one will ever love in the same way again." - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

"Don't compromise yourself. You're all you've got."

-- Janis Joplin

"This above all: to thine own self be true."

-- William Shakespeare

"If you are going through hell, keep going."

-- Winston Churchill

"It is better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all"

I can't read that without thinking of Tommy Lee Jones's two-word reply from Men In Black:

"Try it."

Ok, two things my mom has been telling me lately all the time.

"If you sit long enough by a river the bodies of your enemies will float by." (I also saw someone else posting this somewhere and ascribe it to Sun Tzu)

"Le cœur connaît des raisons que la raison ne connaît pas." Yeah, welcome to the land of heartaches.

"Yesterday is history.

Today is a gift.

Tomorrow is a mystery."

I saw that one yesterday on a card as I was passing by it in the grocery store. It made me think.

Then there was another one, which I think goes like this:

"Our lives consist of all that we have met."

I sort of liked that one.

"To me, clowns aren't funny. In fact, they're kind of scary. I've wondered where this started and I think it goes back to the time I went to the circus, and a clown killed my dad."

"If trees could scream, would we be so cavalier about cutting them down? We might, if they screamed all the time, for no good reason."

"Sometimes life seems like a dream, especially when I look down and see that I forgot to put on my pants."

"I think a pillow should be the peace symbol, not the dove. The pillow has more feathers than the dove, and it doesn't have a beak to peck you with."

Yes d'Arthez, I am aware of the full quote, I have just always liked the second part of the quote better.

And there is this one on a t-shirt:

"God is dead" - Nietzsche

"Nietzsche is dead" - God

Devildog, as you seem to be somewhat into Nietzsche, here is another great one.

"To close your ears to even the best counter-argument once the decision has been taken: sign of a strong character. Thus an occasional will to stupidity." - Nietzsche: Maxims and Interludes, no 107

In love, unlike most other passions, the recollection of what you have had and lost is always better than what you can hope for in the future.
