I believe what he is trying to imply is that perhaps if you're carrying baggage, then maybe you need to sort that out first before you even think about dating anyone else. I would go with what everyone else is telling you. Leave the guy alone and move on. He might hate you right now and might not be your biggest fan, but he'll forgive you in time. The best thing that you did for him was end it when you realized it wasn't working for you. Four months is usually easier to heal from rather than if you dragged this out for months or even years.
