I'm 26 and embarrassingly I've never before had a girlfriend or been intimate with a girl on any level. Admittedly I've been more on shy side when it comes to approaching women. I've taken the initiative on few occasions and I've never been the one to go out drinking and meeting young people where they meet traditionally like bars, clubs, etc.

Now I know that there is nothing obviously wrong with me physically, I'm not like missing an arm or an eye, etc. I think I look ok and I believe that I don't come off strangely or weird. I'm definitely not the alpha male when it comes to outward displays of confidence. However I know that I put out a decent front and there are times when my confidence shines through. I've always been the studious person, the responsible guy, the reliable worker and always had my "**** together." I went through college and managed to find and maintain a decent and stable job through the Great Recession. I'm proud and glad that I'm financially stable and looking at purchasing my own home. When the idea of meeting someone comes up, I think the few failures I've had in this department have just compounded my worsening confidence that anything will ever happen. I have sought professional help from a psychologist on several occasions. The 2nd time I went in I met with someone almost weekly for 10 months. I tried to go with an open mind but I think after all that time the main message I got was that self-doubts I have about myself are only in my head and I just need to keep trying. That was two years ago. I think I have fewer self-doubts but that's probably because I've come to terms with my situation as hilariously hopeless. Of course it hurts even more when friends or family ask how this part of my life is going and I answer honestly and they make some obtuse comment about questioning why I'm single, I just feel like crawling into some cave to die. I've also tried the online dating route and that has led absolutely nowhere. I've never been approached by anyone and the most I've gotten back from a message I've sent was blunt and short yes or no responses to questions. It's not like I live in nowhere, USA, I'm in the suburbs of Los Angeles.

I also don't believe I'm setting unrealistic expectations about who I'm trying to meet. I'm pretty open minded and I'm mindful of trying to meet someone that has a quality personality but beauty helps, it always does :)

I'm usually a pretty optimistic person but at 26 my optimism sometimes feels like a delusion. It's sad I feel like I'm fortunate to have my education, a job, money, and no commitments but I feel like such a failure. I wish I could just press a reset button and start over the whole screwy situation, called life.

I can't read that. Leave the font alone!

Me thinks OP copied and pasted from a word document.
