Just a quick one.

My boyfriend has been asked to go to a party by his friend, but it's not his friends party, it's another acquaintances party. Anyhow, my boyfriend knows the acquaintance so it wouldn't be a problem if he turns up.

It's in a public bar, not sure if they're renting it out. But problem is my boyfriend has asked me if I would come with him, but I haven't been invited personally?!

I don't think there would be a problem as it's a public place and my boyfriend is her friend and I'm obviously his girlfriend, so why not?

Such a silly post, I know. Just advice needed.

I think it just depends on the nature of the party. If it's a private party, as in they have a private room or the bar is closed to the public, then I wouldn't go without an invitation. However, if it's more of an ad hoc kind of deal in a place that's open to the public then I see nothing wrong with just showing up. Or if your boyfriend's friend was told to spread the word then it's probably fine as well. Private parties generally require invitations, and it usually includes the words "and guest" for single people who may want to bring a date. If I were you I'd ask more questions––I wouldn't go unless I knew it was an open kind of thing.

I would just go. It's a public bar, even if an area is reserved for the party - people disperse anyway. Don't worry go and enjoy.

It's actually a little tricky because it doesn't sound like your boyfriend was invited personally, either. It depends on the nature of the party and the nature of your boyfriend's friendship with his friend's friend.

However, I would think that if your boyfriend was invited and plans to go, that it would be fine if you were to accompany him.

It sounds like it might just be a gathering of people in a bar and the more the merrier, but it's hard to tell based on the information given.
