jt27 Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 I love music and am finding that listening (and playing) to music is really helping me feel better (at times). Anyone have any suggestions for songs that can really help get over your break up or help make you feel more optomistic about the future? Just curious. Two songs I am listening to that are helping 1) 45 by Gaslight Anthem: “Hey, turn the record over. Hey, I’ll see you on the flip side. There you go, turn the key and engine over… Let her go, let somebody else lay at her feet.” 2) Beautiful Day by Micheal Buble (Not even a fan of his music really but it's a good one for all you dumpees out there) "It's my turn to fly, so girls, get in line 'Cause I'm easy, no playing this guy like a fool Now I'm alright Might've had me caged before, but not tonight"
forever_lost Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Heh, I have the same mindset. I find solace in listening to music. While it's nice to have a playlist that is about getting being happy and living life, I think it's also good to have a few songs that allow you to reminisce about the breakup and look at it from a different perspective. For me, sad songs sometimes allow me to channel my grief in a composed manner, limiting the chance of me potentially breaking NC and/or wallowing instead of doing things. It's even better when a sad song transitions to a more hopeful or happy song. Anyways, here's some of what I listen to sometimes when I start thinking about my breakup. It's an odd mix, I must admit. "Better with You" - Five Times August (One of my favorite songs to play, and a reminder that someone else is out there whom I can serenade with this.) "Lonely Boy" - The Black Keys (The entire El Camino album is tracklist of love songs, but done in a way that suits my ears.) "Skinny Love" - Bon Iver (Beautiful song.) "Want U Back" - Cher Lloyd (Because this will happen sooner or later.) "You Are Mine" - Enter the Worship Circle (Another beautiful song.) "Fancy" - Iggy Azalea (Because I am so fancy.) "Ho Hey" - The Lumineers (A calming song. No matter what I'm thinking about then, this song just makes me relax.) "Where I Stood" - Missy Higgins (How I interpret my ex's feelings during the breakup. Helps me understand and partially forgive.) "Happy" - Pharrell (Because it really just makes me happy.) "Don't Stop Me Now" - Queen (This just pumps me up to live life for me.) "All Too Well" - Taylor Swift (And this is a beautiful song that allows me to reminisce and grieve through a medium that is reserved and channeled. But yeah, it does make me sad.) "Manhattan" - Sara Bareilles (Same with this one.)
