solway86 Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 Thank you for your advice at my original thread at http://www.loveshack.org/forums/romantic/dating/474718-dating-new-world-dating-best-options-2.html Rather than dig up the old thread, this is the follow-up to it. However, with regard to a point about co-workers, the majority of them are in their late 30s, 40s-50s, married with kids, and they're good friends, but seeing them outside of work... well, not often realistically (some of them commute a fair distance to my work). I'm limited in what I can say about my work, just for personal safety on here... but all, I will say, is it's for a charity, that's all. Anyway, been having a think about another option - speed-dating (having seen an event locally), looking at it rationally, the advantages are: Everyone's there for the same thing (dating/relationships)Networking opportunities (even if I don't meet someone, well, I can still make possible friends with the guys there, and the "snowball effect" someone mentioned elsewhere on here, could happen!)Cost - the fee is fairly low for ticketsLocal - it's not too far for me to get toRun by an organization who specializes in this thing, not a one-man-and-his dog type thing (legal liability issues) The disadvantages though are: May not see individual's true potentialFew minutes not enough time to get to know a person well.Decisions mainly based on physical appearanceNo control over people you will meet (source:Advantages and Disadvantages of Speed Dating | Dating Post) But all things considered, it's not the only way, it's just one of many ways to try... and networking at the same time (in-person social networking). Anyhow, thank you for your help, was much appreciated!
slizl Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 I really like speed dating. Although you don't have the time to have anything but a superficial conversation, you do have enough time to figure out if there is a spark and any chemistry.
Author solway86 Posted May 8, 2014 Author Posted May 8, 2014 One thing I forgot to mention; I have Asperger's Syndrome. It's not an issue affecting every single thing in day-to-day life, but it certainly does make it harder to get a relationship. I will admit, I am a geek (a small bit) like on The Big Bang Theory.
