napy666 Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 I have mentioned this before I am 26 and have never gotten my driver's license due to me unable to pass those DMV tests. So I've never had the chance to drive to my date or take us out etc. It would always be my date being the driver. While I either got a ride from my parents or I rode the bus, subway, and train to get to the dates. So here's the problem, I don't have a car or license and the guy I have been talking too lately age 28, doesn't have a car or license either. Why doesn't he? He says his trunk he was using for practicing broke down and it's too much money to repair it so he's put that on hold and is focusing on school. My thing is this I was thinking how about our first date is a concert? BUT how would that work when neither of us drive? Well he says he has nieces and older sisters but do I really want a third wheel to tag along to this date? He could ride the train to come see me if I told him that approach to it but not so sure if he would consider it. So not so sure on what to do here.
Conners Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 You should maybe stop focusing on dating and maybe focus more on passing your driving test and improving your driving skills. I'm sorry but you are 26 and your parents are driving to you dates... time to grow up a bit. You shouldn't need to rely on someone to drive you places, especially dates. 1

Whats wrong with being dropped off at the location like the mall or the coffee shop nothing wrong there.

If it wasn't a big deal why is it an issue that you are dating a non-driver. I think not having a drivers license at your age is a big issue, so start putting effort into getting your license instead of figuring out how to get from A to B by relying on everyone else.
Omei Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 (edited) I am 27 I do not drive by choice and I dont plan too anytime soon. I don't care if people think I am not mature because of it, driving is a choice. Drivers scare me as everyday I see people ignoring road rules, I've been knocked off my bike and nearly hit. I help the environment, I get exercise, I save money. There is no place I cannot get to on my own. If this man rather focus on school than fork out cash to fix a broken down truck so be it he is still working on something my mother drove early but my dad saved up for a house and didnt drive till he was into his 30's. People who drive are ones who can A) Afford it entirely on their own B) Drive their parents car dont actually have one of their own split bill. C) Only have a car to pay for with no other responcibilitys. Most people I know that drive are my 40plus career set car owners or my age still working on school/job and live at home but can afford a car. I dont think I have a single friend my age that has their own place PLUS self owned car yet, its usually one or the other. Edited April 22, 2014 by Omei 1
Omei Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Wait...I do know of someone my cousin who has a house and a car but she also worked and saved every penny from work for years whilst driving her mothers car at no cost to her, and also has a committed partner who half's the bill and they have no children, imo driving is all based on if you can afford it. My best friend has a license but I have never seen her drive in 11 years because she's a single woman going to school and paying her own living
