Farsightt Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 When my ex and I first broke up, I clung to music, but not the kind of music that gets you out of slumps, more so the kind of music that causes you to wallow in self-pity (not good stuff). My best friend became aware of this and introduced me to a different type of tune. It changed my entire perspective of what the end of something meant. It's a fresh start. A time to find yourself again (cheesy I know). In bad relationships you tend to lose yourself in them (maybe that's just me), and you begin to identify yourself through that relationship, but the reality is that you were a pretty fkn cool person before that relationship, and you will continue to be that cool person once you realize that for yourself. One of the most attractive qualities I find in people are those who love themselves. I'm not talking about self-absorbed people, I'm talking about people who aren't afraid to be themselves and it's very evident when you see it. I lost that for awhile, and I still struggle with it, because I saw the end of a relationship sort of as the end of me. But it's not. It's a big change, it's something new, absolutely terrifying, but empowering if you just embrace it. This is one of the few times in your life that you can be selfish and spend your time rekindling the relationship with yourself. Anyways, these songs helped me realize that and hopefully they can influence you as well. Man Man - Sparks Man Man - Deep Cover Man Man - Head On Please feel free to suggest.
iDrumKing Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Music has always been a HUGE part of my life, and if there's one thing I know for certain, is it can affect for mood drastically. It has that power... I recommend upbeat, catchy, happy music though. None of the sad and makes you remember the past music. That's just me... BUT if you insist, I recommend listening to The Script - Nothing. It will sum up nearly all breakups hear and is also very catchy.
KaliLove Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Pretty much anything Adele sings is bound to bring on the waterworks.
Author Farsightt Posted April 1, 2014 Author Posted April 1, 2014 Adele, although is amazing, is what I'm trying to get people to steer clear of. The music I posted is about repairing yourself. It's uplifting and does wonders on your perspective and is extremely catchy. Just give it a listen.
carl777 Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Here are some fantastic albums to listen to when you're heartbroken : Ryan Adams - Heartbreaker Ryan Adams - Love is Hell The Cure - Disintegration Nick Cave - The Boatman’s Call Spiritualized - Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space (just for the song Broken Heart) Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago and you're feeling angry and enjoy heavy and chaotic music, Converge's Jane Doe will do the trick. These were my favorite albums when I was going through my most recent break-up (5 months NC, weee!).
carl777 Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 That song works as well : Red House Painters - Drop
Author Farsightt Posted April 1, 2014 Author Posted April 1, 2014 All this music is wonderful, but uplifting songs is what I was trying to get at. 1
bluegreen Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 In such situation one needs sad heartbreak songs as they need horns on their head. If you can't turn toward cheerful and happy do not even rather listen anything same goes for sad weepy movies ...
guest572 Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 (edited) Proud by Heather Small. Dont worry by Km Appleby Anything happy or empowering helps me. And I must rule out ANY song that I EVER listened to with my ex! Although I think sad breakup songs have their place when you need to hide away and wallow. Edited April 2, 2014 by Brightnight
DontBreakEven Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 Every song on Tristan Prettyman's Cedar and Gold album (the album she wrote to ex-fiance Jason Mraz in response to his "I won't give up" -- he broke off their engagement shortly after the release). Fearless - Colbie Calliat. Tattooed on my wrist for a reason.
