Keenly Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Did any other firefox users notice this? I think this might be something best left out of a dating website. Also, what's up with that mysterious apostrophe in the title.
Author Keenly Posted April 1, 2014 Author Posted April 1, 2014 I actually thought it was going to kick me off the site entirely, but luckily at the bottom, there is a continue option. I think it's a little sad that we make sweeping judgments on some one's personal opinion like that though. If he doesn't like gay marriage as a person, that's fine, but what if he runs his company in an equality for all style? Are we still going to try to shame him? 2
fortyninethousand322 Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 It's their site they can do what they want. Personally I don't look down on them for their stance on this particular issue. If they did this for something like carbon taxes or the ACA, I would roll my eyes and promptly delete my account. I'm not outraged about this though.

It's not like, my favorite color is blue. Would it be okay if following his personal opinion, he donated to Stormfront? Other people and businesses can certainly choose not to associate with that. Or they can choose to support it more. It doesn't even block use, it just lets you know, so that some might choose to switch from Firefox to say Chrome. He is making overtures now, and so long as he does in fact make Firefox an open employee with equal benefits and options for all, I bet it will all die down anyhow.
J21 Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 They gave the option to still run it on firefox by clicking on the bottom. I dont think it was that bad since they did that. If they gave no choice, then okc would've been pitting okc's political views vs firefox' poltical view (which wouldn't have been ok with me). They did the tight rope walking nicely. Stood up for their beliefs, but then gave the user a choice. 1
BikerAccnt Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 I think they should stick to dating and stay out of politics. They have a right to believe what they want , but others have a right to believe what they want also. I'm so glad to see "progressives" being so tolerant of others.. <sarcasm intended> 2
ja123 Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 I have no idea what you're talking about. Someone please explain! Also, what's up with that mysterious apostrophe in the title. What apostrophe? I didn't see it. (info: in Canada using Internet Explorer)

Opposition to Proposition 8 isn't strictly an issue for those left of center...
Frank2thepoint Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 I don't use OKCupid (or any online dating website) but I think a dating website is inconveniencing many Firefox users just because of one person's view on gay marriage. I'm sure plenty of Firefox users panicked at the message. Besides, Firefox is a free browser, developed by an open-source community. In addition, Mozilla Corporation (which support the Mozilla Foundation for developing Firefox) is a private company, not even public on the stock market. So its users have no way to affect Mozilla or the CEO, to object to his views.
gaius Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 I have no idea what you're talking about. Someone please explain! Mozilla hired a new CEO who's made political contributions against gay marriage. So now we're supposed to stop using Firefox to show how much we love gay people.
