I'm just curious, is this usually just because i used to be common territory to her? Now that she doesn't have her current boyfriend, she's lonely and wants to talk to someone. I still care about this girl, and have been open to chatting. I'm just wondering if this is something bad to get into?

You still care about her, so the frame you're coming from is all wrong. If you want her back, which you shouldn't because she's slept with another, it will only happen when she senses you couldn't care less about her.
