kaylan Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Am I the only one who hates how often women ask that in their online dating profiles? Or they say "I need a guy who can keep up with me". Whenever Ive known women who have said guys theyve dated cant keep up with them, these women typically tend to be drama chicks. Like right now I have a good friend who has a really dramatic dating life at the moment, and of course she said the guys couldnt keep up with her. In which case whenever I see "can you keep up with me?" in a profile, I immediately close the girls profile. It just turns me off, even if everything else in the profile seemed ok until that point. They seem to always ruin it at the end of the profile by saying that, and then usually its coupled by a list of what a guy should be or shouldnt be. Just a turn off for me. Fellow men, do you get turned off by that phrase as much as I do?
Ruby Slippers Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Men say it, too, and it's equal-opportunity stupid. Makes me tired just reading it. 3
Chico333 Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Men say it, too, and it's equal-opportunity stupid. Makes me tired just reading it. I completely agree and it's from experience. Any guy I've been with that has told me the girl "needs to keep up with them" has been nothing but drama. It's an excuse to make themselves feel better for having personal issues that may impact a relationship. Men and women both do/say it equally. I learned the hard way to stay away from that type. 1
Canucklehead Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Yeah, I would say it is the list that gets to me..... IMO, the profile should describe yourself and not look like an employment posting. I sometimes think it is the people with the sense of entitlement that create "the list" of what you need to be or don't even bother messaging..... total turn-off Kind of takes all the fun and mystery out of the "get to know you" part of dating
TXGuy Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 That one is on my list of 'instant close'. Of the same order as having shopping as a hobby. I see it more as, "I have expensive tastes which I expect you to fund.' 1
Canucklehead Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 When I see the "can you keep up with me?" posted, my thought becomes: I have plenty of energy to spare on the right person. I just do not want to waste it to become your doormat.... Next!
Lernaean_Hydra Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Interesting. I always took the phrase to mean "no old guys". 2
Emilia Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Oh I read that differently. I thought it meant being quite active, doing lots of things in their spare time and wanting a person who was similar. ie someone who doesn't just want to 'watch DVDs and cuddle on the sofa' (which is my pet hate line in OLD). 3
Larry56 Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Yeah I know what you mean. They are "douche bag" female equivalent of the Jersey Boys. There are lot's of them.
d0nnivain Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 I don't know that I used the phrase but I thought it. I was a very busy person with a lot of social & work obligations. I wanted somebody who was as driven as I was. I didn't want a guy who wanted to stay home every night & play video games. However, if the phrase turns you off, that's OK. You are entitled to your choices.
GoreSP Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 people try to write witty things in their profile that will make the opposite sex want to write them. Even though we know that one really reads the description and no one really answers their messages anyway... I hate OLD can you tell?
thefooloftheyear Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 I like the one that says ..." I want my partner in crime"...makes you want to respond.."that's great! Im due out of Rikers Island in 6 years, so ill need some backup".... TFY 3
