It wasn't his fault obviously, it's just that the meal had a certain ingredient which I didn't like at all (I wasn't aware of it). Hence, I barely touched my plate. That's your answer right there! 1
acrosstheuniverse Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 He wants to make sure that you can enjoy your meal on date two, that's all. I'm vegan and when dating, guys often asked me to choose the restaurant as they weren't sure where was suitable for my dietary requirements.

It's a desire to have you be equally involved, someone that doesn't understand vegan choices very well, and your distaste for your first meal. It's all good. Sounds like a reasonable thing. Maybe talk to him about your favorite spots to eat, other places that have vegan friendly options so he feels more comfortable making those decisions in the future. Have fun on date 2.
