I think it's because a lot of video games seem to put some people into a trance. Like a drug, some people are no longer "there" when they play.

Incidentally, I play video games with my bf. It's something fun we do together and he tells me when he completes certain challenges...and doesn't talk down to me about it, which I sort of found my ex would do. "Don't bother asking, you'd never understand" sort of thing.

I think a big problem in our country today is "Child Worship." And I recently discovered, it's now become "Spouse Worship" too.

Like when I was a kid, I'd go outside, find another kid who liked the same stuff I liked, and we'd hang out. Maybe build a fort, maybe throw the baseball around, maybe try to find another friend to play with.

Now, there are play dates.

When I was bold in school, my teacher called home, and I was in BIG trouble; no questions asked. Now a teacher calls home, and the parent explains to the teacher "That can't possible be my little Jimmy, he is an angel."

I didn't get a cell phone until I was 20 and practically FINISHED with college. Most of my friends had one for a few years at that point. I have multiple 7 year old relatives with I-Phones.

Now it's carrying over to spouses. There is this new thing where every waking moment needs to be with each other. Gotta watch the same shows...Gotta have the same hobbies...I even have friends who have to WAIT for a time when them and their spouse are together to watch "their shows" together on demand. And if the guy watches it BEFORE she gets home, even if willing to watch again, he will get crap for it. LOL. What does it matter if he's willing to watch again!?!? And ok if you have a handful of favorite shows, but EVERY Show - that is just insane.

George Carlin beat you to it :

Also, this is what South Park is about.

That made me think of Hank Green's "Watch Us Play Games" thing, which is basically

Super Mario together, filming it and cracking jokes.

I think including your partner in the game can fix a lot of the problems. There's one game in particular that I played that is very heavy on exploring/backstory/side stories in addition to the "action" parts. My girl has actually said that she enjoyed watching me play it, especially when we explored the backstory together (it sort of plays out like a conspiracy/crime story).

Two games I really liked were Kingdom Hearts and Haunting Ground.

And yes I played them both myself.

So much ignorance

Not too many girls are interested in the kind of games I'm interested in - generally very brutal shooting games, survival horror like deadspace or gory action/adventure like god of war

Cool story bro.

Not a big gamer at all. I do like Legend of Zelda. I saw that Zelda Dungeon was doing a "Let's play" of lost isle. I might download it onto PC :)

(it's free open source)

I don't have a problem with it as long as whoever I'm dating doesn't make that the most important thing in their world.

Everyone has their own interests and what they like to do on their downtime. If a guy loves to play some CoD then whatever. I myself can play the s.hit out of Guitar Hero, Just Dance and I'm not ashamed to admit, The Sims.

HOWEVER, it's a problem when the guy has no job, lives at home with his mom, does nothing to improve his life and just sits at home in his stained teeshirt playing hours upon hours of World of Warcraft.

One of my exes was OBSESSED with that game. To the point where he was blowing me off, ignoring me, putting on his stupid microphone headphones when I'd go over to see him. He once blew me off and cancelled plans last minute because he was going on a raid. Said it was "easier to blow off one person, than 25 people" who were involved. I'm like... OK so you blow off your girlfriend of over a year for little 14 year olds you don't even know. Cool.

Needless to say he was dumped very soon thereafter. I have a personal vendetta against World of Warcraft now. Nothing but a life sucker and a waste of time!

The average gamer nowadays is in 20s/30s. You think games like this are aimed at kids?

hahaha,

Oh sorry, ok, tell that to your girlfriend... I'm sure that will change the game completely.

I love the irony of facepalming me with a responce like this.

Bottom line... Who do you want to date? Someone with a life? Or someone who plays "God of War" (seriously... that's the name?) all day?

Your call.

It's no more immature than reality shows or other hobbies that are more socially acceptable. Going on a rampage in Grand Theft Auto is one of the best stress releases there is.

Watever, video games where invented and mass marketed for children.

So was baseball and football. Stuff evolves. Facebook was originally designed for one college and then any college and now anyone.

To say "It was designed for this and now forever it shall be so," is equal to a neanderthal mentality.

And someone said "If you're so rich, why do you care what we think."

A.) I'm not rich, I just don't blow money on gambling, drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, credit cards, etc. You'd be surprised how much money you have if you spend/save wisely. I know, what a bore, right?

B.) Anyone who says they don't care what others think is lying. Maybe a SMALL % of people genuinely don't care ( I wish I was one of them) but it is in our genetics to conform to the society around us to a degree. WHICH LED to my question...Why does society have this pre-notion that video games are lame.

As much as that "typical hater" made me made (whoeever the poster was), they were 100% accurate that people view them as LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMME.

And I just don't understand why. A movie is 2 hours...you will NEVER get that 2 hours back. It isn't interactive, it doesn't challenge your wit, it doesn't stimulate though, it doesn't force you to strategize. Which many video games DO all of that.

I just think if played in moderation, video games are NO different than television, movies, reading, facebook, cell phones, etc. I think they are equally pointless yet fun. Everyone needs down time, right?

And to those who say "You could be working on Saturday doing something else so you have something to show for it."

Guess what people, when I die and the guy next to me dies, and his grave says "He worked Really Hard" and mine says "He had a ton of Fun." Take a guess which one of us will look back at life with regrets....

Again... when assessing a guys potential in a relationship....

How far under the category of red flag do you think, someone "needing" to relieve stress by hijacking a car and running over hookers, is?

Are you interested in the answers, or defending why you like VGs?

Is this presently an issue in your life?

I am not a violent person at all but is fun to go psycho in a make believe world sometimes and then when it is over nobody gets hurt.

Agreed. Just most of the people I know that play video games dont do it in moderation and it does affect their relationship.

Haha I know. I haven't had much use for LS since getting over the ex. Only recently come back. But not on nearly as much as I used to be.

But to keep it on topic, WARCRAFT SUCKS!

Look, the question was why don't girls like this stuff in general? I'm trying to give answers....

Posting on here and defending video games virtues will not change the minds of women the world over...

... it would be a much better to take this thread as a way of understanding the mind of those (the majority) of us out there who are not obsessed with these games... then you might actually understand where you might be going wrong.

Why do people come on here and ask questions they have no interest in actually hearing the answer to?

If you were really interested in the question then it should be from the point of view of learning the mindset of someone who can explain why they DON'T like this stuff and then you might know what they are thinking of you if you insist on pushing this crap on us for hours on end... it's NOT fun.

Heck, I'm an IT guy... everyone around me is into this stuff... so I have to learn to adapt to them!!!

But in the outside world it's the other way around... you'd be better understanding someone who doesn't like all this stuff than forcing it on them or trying to explain why it's so great because no matter how great it might sound to you, the stuff being described to defending gaming in this thread are only making me think it's even worse....

like, look at the names of the games... "God of War"... really? Sounds like something a 6 year old would make up.

...maybe 30 years ago

Watch that video. There are adults who can't stand the intensity and horror of that game...yet videogames are made for kids?

Yea, and those kids from 30 years ago got older(I'm one of them, first kid on the block to have a Nintendo). The issue is in a broad sense, is that society, expects you to grow up and out of fantasy world. Someone who spends hours a day in a fantasy world is usually not generally attractive. It doesn't matter if it's a game, or reading. Both are considered unhealthy.

"God of war" is based on ancient greek mythology - do some research and you'll know what I'm talking about. The whole story of the game trilogy is based on ancient greek mythology. So much for games not being intelligent or being for kids, eh?

Also, I don't know how anybody can watch this trailer and not feel chills up their spine at how incredibly awesome and epic this game is

Sorry dude... but the more you try to explain this the more idiotic it sounds.

Based on greek mythology... oh right... if there is one thing that Mythology is NOT, it's fantasy stories for kids....

Come on, you're trying to tell me this is boosting your intelligence somehow?

You want to know why girls are turned off by this... just re-read your own posts on this thread.

Warcraft does suck.

I only play sports games these days, and not a lot either. Can't be assed.
