Many a good book has been suggested here in the various threads, "not just friends" etc. But what about some movies that you have found to really help? I've got a bunch in mind but I'll just list one to start:

1. Yes Man - Jim Carey

I Strongly recommend "Yes Man". The message it sends about getting the hell out there and doing even the wackiest things REALLY helps you look forward instead of dwelling on the past. Plus a good laugh never hurts when you find yourself in pain.

Regardless of wether you are "going it alone" or reconciling, I WISH US ALL STRENGTH AND GOOD FORTUNE!!

"Love Actually"

It wasn't so much that I "enjoyed" it.

I had to leave the room in the scene where she found the jewelry intended for the OW, and later on Christmas Day, it wasn't her present. Instead she got a Joni Mitchell CD.

I found jewelry intended for the OW and was gaslighted about it, and it was actually given to me. After d-day I felt so stupid...

SidLyon that movie painted the WH as such a fool, more than anything. I liked seeing a theatre full of people snigger at him and knew they would snigger at H and OW...

A Walk On The Moon with Diane Lane, Viggo Mortensen, Liev Schreiber and Anna Paquin.

"Shattered".....Pierce Brosnan, Gerard Butler..

The scene near the end where the affair was revealed and the BH gets some revenge is worth it for the way it makes me feel. I think that is the way most BH's feel.

"Along Came Polly" - Ben Stiller, Jennifer Anniston

It's obviously a comedy but it has some heart lifting elements to the story. I also like (at the end) his realizations and his words to his wayward wife.

The film "Splendour in the Grass", starring Natalie Wood and Warren Beatty.

The story was inspired by a poem and the film captures it beautifully.

"What through the radiance which once so bright

Be now for ever taken from my sight,

Though nothing can be back the hour

Of splendour in the grass, of glory of the flower;

We will grieve not, rather find

Strength in what remains behind;

In primal sympathy

Which having been must ever be;

In soothing thoughts that spring

Out of human suffering;

In faith that looks through death,

In years that bring the philosophic mind"

Nothing related to infidelity, it was more just stuff to help escape. I just finished watching 6 seasons of Doctor Who :)

I was thinking about movies in relation to A's the other day. I was thinking how since d-day I haven't watched American Beauty. I love the scene where she gets busted in the drive-thru window. "You don't get to tell me what to do EVER again!"

And this line:

[Lester has just caught Caroline cheating with the Real Estate King]

Carolyn Burnham: Uh, Buddy, this is my...

Lester Burnham: Her husband. We've met before, but something tells me you're going to remember me this time.

I used to watch this movie frequently on DVD. Now I know why my wife didn't enjoy watching it with me. I can only image the hell it must have been for her to sit next to me while those scenes were being played out. If I had only known then.....

"Unfaithful" with Richard Gere.

There's one eerie similarity between one of the actresses' names and my wife's name, oddly enough. Spooky to the max.

I saw "The Descendants" with my wife and it was torture. But, like watching a car wreck in slow motion, I couldn't just get up and leave. The movie is set in Hawaii - where my wife had a ONS with some random guy - as well as having a primary theme of a husband discovering his now-dying wife had an ongoing affair before her accident. All the old memories flooded into my mind and my anger and disgust was triggered every few minutes. I held it all inside and never told my wife how bad it hurt just to watch the movie because I was afraid of my anger.

"Shattered Glass"

Oddly--the subject wasn't infidelity, but rather pathological lying, and how it affected everyone around the liar. So there's a parallel.......

When the character's lies are discovered, and his gaslighting no longer works- his reaction is much like that of a unremorseful WS who can no longer deny what's really been happening....well, I won't give too much away.

It was fascinating, from a psychological standpoint.

Escapism when you're in that much pain is understandable, and possibly life-saving. Sometimes, you just have to shut your mind down for awhile, for self-preservation.

All ten seasons of Stargate SG-1 did it for me.........:D

I haven't caught up with the Doctor's newer episodes yet, but I look forward to it.:)

I'm surprised noone has mentioned "Swingers" - With Vince Vaughn

Swingers (1996) - IMDb

I can't recall if his ex cheated or if it was just a breakup but the moral of him getting "back into the game" and being finally indifferent when she much later returns is a re-occurring theme we see around here.

The anger shown by the husband and the end of "Shattered" hit home about the feelings.

"A Walk on the Moon" was VERY painful to watch.

Both films helped deal with reality and acceptance.

I was flipping channels last night and I stopped On Titanic with Winslett/DiCaprio...

It's amazing to me now that I never before was bothered by "Rose" having an affair with "Jack"... I never even gave it much thought. Zane's character was such a douche it's hard to feel bad for him. But somehow watching it this time I was really bothered by the whole thing, her sneaking around below deck, screwing Jack in a car etc...

Little Children

Also with Kate Winslet. Pretty realistic treatment of infidelity, among other things.

Exactly what I was going to say. This movie is extremely disturbing and the acting is phenomenal.

This Korean movie "The Housemaid". It reminds me of how selfish the WS is sometimes, and how everybody can be affected in such a bad way when the spouse has an A.

Yep. I did the escape thing w/Stargate too (all TEN seasons)... :laugh:

I thought he was a hypocrite because didn't he cheat on his wife too?:confused: Correct me if I'm wrong.

Along Came Polly (2004) - IMDb

"Reuben Feffer thinks he's found the love of his life but on his honeymoon he discovers her cheating on him with a scuba instructor. Reuben travels back home to get his life on track. On a night out with best pal, Sandy Lyle, Reuben discovers an old school friend, Polly Prince."

When his new wife stays behind to bang the scuba instructor, I would say he get's a pass on the technicality of an anullment.
