....which was NOT about infidelity, BTW, but I think it has a place in this forum.

It's about a pathological liar who gets caught, in a nutshell.

Reading here on LS for a few years now, combined with experiences in my own life has given me a rudimentary grasp of psychology.

So, when I watched this movie today, I couldn't help but see parallels between the behavior of the main character, and the behavior of a WS when D-day arrives. At first he spins more and more lies, weaving a more intricate web, and digging himself in deeper.

Then when he realizes that he's losing credibility---he switches into a petulant blameshifting mode--(You're just out to get me!!!")( playing the victim..... )

It was also heartbreaking to see how everyone else in his sphere was affected by his dishonesty---the ripples spread pretty far.

It was a fascinating character study into the mind of a liar---so I thought I'd recommend it to my fellow posters here.

I've seen "Gaslight"......*shudder*

"Shattered Glass" is currently on either HBO or Cinemax this month---but I forget which.................

What really got to me , is how charming the main character is---everyone at his workplace loves him.

It's also based on a true story.........

I just watched it (again after some years). I didn't make the connection when I saw this thread title but the infamous Stephen Glass case was big news circa 1998. It appears he managed to capitalize on his infamy to some extent. But I'm sure life would be grander if he just played it all straight or chose fiction the first time.

He definitely shot his career aspirations in the foot, with his behavior.

From what I understand, he tried several times to pass the bar exam, after getting his law degree from Georgetown University Law Center---but flunked the moral fitness test, based on his past record of deceptive behavior.

My reason for recommending this to LSers in the Infidelity forum--is to watch the movie, & observe how he behaves when his coworkers begin to question his behavior.........He was a an eye-opening example of of an individual who would refuse to be truthful, no matter how much it hurt others..................All for the sake of feeding his ego and furthering his own agenda. Much like an unrepentant wayward spouse.
