I recently went to a meetup.com event in San Jose and I figured I would have a chance to flirt with some women. Unfortunately, I found out that most of the women at the event were middle aged. For the first time in my life I felt very awkward. It was just weird. One thing I notice about San Jose California is most of the young men are more interested in video games and drinking then actually talking to women. Anybody have anything experience with meetup.com?:)

I would've expected them to all be out surfing and hitting on chicks, lol.

Meetup is great, but you have to pick your groups very carefully. If you're young, stick to the ones that specify 20s and 30s for an age range. The ones I attended, where no such thing was specified, was made up of women in their 40s, like me. Men in our age range made up about 10% of the group, and most were weird social misfits.

However, I did make a few female friends, and if nothing else... joining a meetup made me get out of my comfort zone, stretch my wings, and give me courage to become more sociable after my divorce.

It's still worth the shot, in my opinion.

I don't know about San Jose, but in my area there are many meetup groups (activity-based, social-based, singles, networking, etc.) that explicitly cater to people in their 20s and 30s. Those are the groups I like to focus on b/c I'm young...and a few of them do have some very attractive and personable women that attend the events.

San Jose's a good-sized city; surely they have groups there targeted towards young adults.

Always check out the pictures they have posted on their pages. Most people seem slightly nerdy/awkward.
