This couple has known each other since 1995, but married other people, and now are married!

Till death do us part: Newlyweds racing against time

The first time Derek Steen proposed to Diane Prysizney, at the end of the White Rock pier, she covered her ears with her hands and sang "la-la-la."

Another time, he wrote "Will you marry me?" on a windswept Tofino beach, their special place. She erased the writing with her foot.

Twice, Steen proposed in crayon on placemats at restaurants. Another time, he pulled over to the side of the highway in the middle of the Fraser Canyon and told her he wasn't driving anymore until she said "yes."

"She was chicken****," says Derek, 43. "All I had to do was touch her left hand, fourth finger, and she'd be screaming — screaming or squirming — then she'd wash her hand very quickly."

It would take more than 10 years. And in the end, it was Diane who proposed.

Now as the newlyweds settle into married life, they just have one wish: please, more time.
