He broke up 7months ago, and recently tried reconnecting but then backed out, I still love him and have hopes of getting back. A week ago he texted me back saying he wanted to talk (but never followed through), and then sent a friend request a couple days later. I figured things were looking up but then he ignored my birthday. Should I message him and ask what is going on? Or just keep waiting...

But if I do delete him wouldnt it be as a sign that I want nothing to do with him? I mean I do want to keep the door open for the future for us. We did have a span of NC for 5months so maybe this is his way of keeping some contact with me for now. I wont see him until next january since we are both going to different countries.

He knows you want to get back with him. If he wanted to get back with you, he would call and try to make it happen. Deleting a FB friendship has nothing to do with him wanting to be with you or not, so youre not closing the door. If he wants to get back with you, he can call you. Let him earn it. And since you havent heard from him on FB, obviously he didnt really want contact with you. I truly think he just wanted to make sure you didnt move on. 1
