I know it may seem silly but I don't have any friends...

I don't know how to make friends. The only friends I usually have are guy friends online whom I talk to over video games. I would like to have friends, people I can talk to or hang out with I just don't know how to go about it. I feel myself getting so depressed about being alone lately. I'm in a LDR so someone to talk to about that would be nice as well.

A friend is someone you share a common hobby or interest with. For starters, try joining a school club that caters to gamers. You're likely to meet an interesting person there, even if you're not currently in school. Also, be sure to keep in touch with all your new friends (be it adding them on Facebook or saving phone numbers).

Also, when your friends log on at a forum or server (it doesn't matter; as long as you have access to communicating with them), be sure to often greet them. While a "hi" or "sup" might seem a bit vague, the person who receives your greeting will realize that you cared about them enough to send them a message.

Trust me, a lot of people who try to make themselves look "social" and "popular" on sites like Facebook are often just loners (like you and I) looking for attention. They'll do anything it takes -- be it uploading a photo of themselves wearing a silly hat or writing random gibberish on their walls to appear "funny" and "cool" -- to get attention. They are living false lives, and feel they need to justify their pitiful existence by adding thousands of faces they've never communicated with before and never or hardly will.

So, in conclusion, everyone suffers. It's not just you, man.

For starters, you can try starting a conversation with just a greeting and asking about the person's day or how they're doing. From there you build on the conversation.

Are you in school or are you working? You could talk about your LDR here too, if you feel like opening up. :)

I had a hard time making friends as I was growing up. But I slowly learned to strike up conversations with new people around me, just a greeting can do wonders sometimes. It's worth a try with anyone you meet. If they don't like conversing with you, so what, move on, that's life, that person isn't one you'd wanna be friends with.

Being alone isn't silly at all. It stinks.

Having said that, you have gamer friends and are in a relationship. Reach out to them more. Not in a desperate clingy way - just be a good friend to them. Figure out a way to do nice things for them.

As for meeting people in RL, I'm older and I see people are more and more reluctant to do that. Meetup.com is the greatest invention ever - find people who share your interests and do fun things together.

It's a start. Be glad you have a relationship, it's an enviable achievement. Well, if you're a guy...
