DontWorryBHappy Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 For any new readers: OLD = online dating. I've determined that you have to be SO lucky for things to pan out. 50% of the time, the person looks different from their pictures Probably over 50% of the time, you click online but not over the phone Also well over 50% of the time the "vibe" just isn't right when you finally meet. Attraction is such a sensitive thing. A million different things determine it. For me, the guys voice has to connect with me, his appearance needs to make me comfortable, his personality and all of the little, intricate aspects of it need to be right... and those things are completely impossible to determine online. I've learned that you can have the most fantastic conversations with someone online, then maybe they call you on the phone and you realize that you can't connect with them AT ALL.... it's so strange. It makes every potential conversation online seem pointless because honestly, it could work the other way too. Maybe some of the guys who I don't connect with online would actually be great for me in real life. Maybe some people are bad conversationalists in message format... It's annoying! Sorry, my rant.
d'Arthez Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 There is a big difference between email and flowing conversation, such as those provided by phones, real life meetings or even instant messaging. I would avoid texting, for the simple reason that people hardly bother with grammar, and thus it is easy for messages to be misconstrued or misunderstood. Emails give the sender time to read and re-read previous emails and responses, and a fair amount of time to construe a thoughtful response. Take away that time, and people can't fake as easily to be such and such a person. They have to rely on themselves, and for some people that is quite scary. With regards to your preferences, everyone has those. Things like the pitch of a voice, which can be a turn off for some people it is easier to find out such a flaw in real life. Though to be fair, OLD can give you an insight in some flaws that you would hardly pick up on in real life as well.
Nohbody Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 I am very tempted to just delete my profiles. OLD appears to be a wasteland.
metalambience Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 I've actually have had better luck with online dating.
