Hokie, I like you, but I agree that you seem pretty insecure. You value the wrong things about yourself. That said, I don't expect you or anyone to change permanently in the course of a couple of weeks or even months. Baby steps. I think it's OK for you to do the run, as long as you're making an effort in general to deemphasize the obsession with superficials. Are you?

Yes, I am. Star was right in what she said about my insecurity in the past, but I am making a very dedicated effort to make permanent changes. I know it's a gradual process, but I truly feel I have made significant progress and have no doubts in myself or my efforts.

The run really is just to have a little fun...you can't take yourself too seriously sometimes, and this is just an example of it...more people will probably laugh at my "costume" than gawk...but let them gawk if they must...

If you knew my personality, you'd know that I do stupid sh*t like this just for a laugh...and yea, the body doesn't hurt either...no shame...

This TOTALLY contradicts not only your posts above but your emails of the past couple days wherein you admit you're doing it TO BLATANTLY SHOW OFF and get attention, not just a fun run (a fun run can be done WITH clothes on). That's change? That's baby steps? Okkkaaaaay.

For someone who gets mad when her crossfit gym is invaded by someone she doesn't like, I'd say you have little if any room to talk

I think you are confusing the specific use of the word "fun" here or missing the context...

I am not, nor have I ever in my posts or emails to you, used the word "fun" to describe the run as casual, for leisure or mere enjoyment. When I said, 'to have a little fun', I meant it as a potentially embarrassing event with the purpose of hilarity and perhaps a story to tell. I'm even going with a Hello Kitty theme...I've got an HK hat, some pink argyle HK socks, and some pink HK-printed boxer briefs...hopefully it turns out awesome... Sure, it'd be cool to use the attention to meet some people, but it's more of a joke than anything else...and it's that kind of humor that I try to "flaunt" to the world...but perhaps I'm having a hard time conveying that...

On a side bar, that's another reason why I love cruises. I can make a clown of myself, get some laughs, meet some people, and have "fun" in a relaxed atmosphere where everyone is just a lot more socially open. Of course the normalcy of shirtlessness is another plus, but it's just an all in all good time.

Nah. I think you're confusing your own words, as you come up with different meanings for them and reasons for your behavior depending on whether the explanation suits you at the moment.

Speaking in very general terms, if you possess a certain quality, trait, special skill or talent, any personal, educational or career achievement(s), or have any other remarkable characteristic about yourself, do you find it better to let it all out on the table right away or conceal it and reveal it only when appropriate or necessary?

In other words, when you are dating or even just approaching someone, would you rather act relatively average so that you can "surprise" someone later on or flaunt what you've got in hopes that it makes you seem more desirable right away? Likewise, would you rather have someone reveal themselves right away to fuel the attraction, or would you rather be pleasantly surprised later on?

What do you personally prefer to do? And what do you respond better to?

If the convo wanders in that direction, then speak up! It's the fastest way to figure out whether someone shares your values.

Once you've shared what you consider your positives are, ask them out of the blue what they value in you and see if the two meet.

As far as running in a charitable event, wear what you want and have a great time doing it! You've put a lot of time and effort into getting yourself in shape, so let others enjoy your effort too!

I hate tooting my own horn.

To be honest, people think i'm a troglodyte. LOL!

I joke it up & tend to not take things seriously.

so yeah, I do get a kick out of it when I pull something out of my utility belt that saves the day.

People will just stop & look at me like I just grew a second head & wonder if that just happened.

I had a chick over, she cooked me dinner. She was completely surprised i had stuff like spices & utensils... LOL!
