classof2014 Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Ok so please note the following is meant to be a satire. Please don't take it seriously. Although, some good points are made in greatly exaggerated fashion, it isn't serious. But here goes. My friend and I were joking that as women slowly gain more and more power, the women (commonly referred to as "American women" in internetland) are like the Smith virus, infecting other people and putting them under their control. We were joking how in the future, doomsday is caused by humankind getting rid of Gods gender roles, but the Smith women cause a bigger threat and manage to overtake both the physical universe, hell, and almost heaven before "the one" unbalances the equation and God therefore allows peace. My friend actually thought it was a pretty creative (yet ridiculous) analogy. She hates feminism BTW because she feels that it is just another way for white women (she's korean) to take credit for things asian women mostly do (i.e. education) what do you think of my spin off idea haha?
that girl Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 This isn't a normal way to joke, it is messed up. Women are people, they aren't a virus. I get that you're still a kid and you probably are very intimidated by women because they can turn you down. Lots of girls feel the same way about guys. Everyone in the world has liked someone and been afraid that they didn't like them back. 99% of people have been rejected more than once, whether it is being flat out turned down, waiting for a phone call that never comes, or being dumped. It doesn't make the opposite sex the enemy. I don't entirely believe your friend is real, but if she is, chica has some issues. She's bashing women either because she is insecure, because she has some recent girl drama or she is trying to get in good with guys. But at the end of the day, if she has a vagina, she is a woman and all the crap she talks sticks back on her.
Author classof2014 Posted October 8, 2010 Author Posted October 8, 2010 I already told you it was a joke. Its like when women say if men ruled the world we'd be in wars and chaos all the time, until women managed to calm the beast. No one is being serious here.
Author classof2014 Posted October 8, 2010 Author Posted October 8, 2010 Also, my friend doesn't like feminism because if you haven't noticed, most feminist cater to white women and yet more Asian women go to college, earn more, etc. and they get no credit for it. She doesn't disliked all women.

This type of joke is made by comedians all the time. Everyone in the world has liked someone and been afraid that they didn't like them back. 99% of people have been rejected more than once, whether it is being flat out turned down, waiting for a phone call that never comes, or being dumped. It doesn't make the opposite sex the enemy. Rejection is easily handled and it doesn't make you wary of the opposite sex in the long run. Divorce does that job instead. She is joking about women from another culture... not women in general. Keep in mind that from the perspective of everyone except really whipped guys and other American women.... the females in our country are pretty much one big joke. I have a friend who is dating what might be the worlds most annoying woman. She is ULTRA feminist and has been really frustrated working with women in Afghanistan because although they want more rights and freedoms... they don't want to be like American Women.... who they generally view as a$$hats.

These are just your issues once again. First, the girl is Asian and of Korean descent, but the original poster says nothing about her being an immigrant or the child of immigrants. She could see herself as an American woman. In fact, she compares White women to Asian women rather than American women to Asian women, so I would guess she is from the US or Canada and identifies as such. And I really, really doubt women in Afganistan consider American women "a$$hats." There are a whole whole host of cultural differences between Western and Afgani women that would come up, but I cannot imagine an Afgan woman saying "American women are such a joke! But not the men American men who are crawling all over our country. Those dudes are awesome!" You read into things to suit your own viewpoint.

Having known lots of Korean Americans... I can say they seem to often identify as such. As Korean Americans... not mainstream. And I really, really doubt women in Afganistan consider American women "a$$hats." Just believe me when I say they envy the wealth and opportunity, but also find their female American counterparts to be morally bankrupt. Our soldiers scare the crap out of them. Most would like them gone, but also realize what that would mean. You read into things to suit your own viewpoint. We both do.
that girl Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Having known lots of Korean Americans... I can say they seem to often identify as such. As Korean Americans... not mainstream. Identifying as Korean American doesn't make you any less American. Americans come from all kinds of cultural background. Though this does make me wonder, if you would assume a Korean American is not a typical joke of a woman the way a white American woman would be, what about Italian-Americans, Russian-Americans, Jewish-Americans, Irish-Americans with recent ties to their homeland? Do you have some hierarchy of which women are the most evil? Just believe me when I say they envy the wealth and opportunity, but also find their female American counterparts to be morally bankrupt. But that isn't limited to American women, American men are not generally thought fondly of in Afghanistan. There are a whole host of cultural, religious and political reasons for this but it isn't really about gender. Americans are not popular in Afghanistan. We both do. No, I think there are about as many good people in every country and about as many good women as good men. I don't scapegoat anyone based on their heritage or genitalia. I don't take out my past hurts on millions of people I don't know or make ignorant generalizations about millions of people.

Do you have some hierarchy of which women are the most evil? Anyone heavily influenced by mainstream culture is what I consider to by mainstream American, regardless of heritage. An evil hierarchy? Like maybe a deck of cards with the faces and names of the 52 most evil women I know? Americans are not popular in Afghanistan. Very true. No, I think there are about as many good people in every country and about as many good women as good men. I don't scapegoat anyone based on their heritage or genitalia. When you play in the casino the house always wins because the chances are stacked in their favor. I choose to stop gambling.
theBrokenMuse Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Keep in mind that from the perspective of everyone except really whipped guys and other American women.... the females in our country are pretty much one big joke. You really, really need to stop speaking for everyone else. Seriously, it is hella annoying. You don't know the perspective of everyone. Not even the perspective of most. In fact, I would bank my entire life savings that there are plenty of places and cultures you know absolutely nothing about at all. They are a joke to you and to some of the people you know or perhaps even what you have observed to be a cultural truth in some areas but to turn around and say that this is an established global perspective is downright silly.
theBrokenMuse Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 what do you think of my spin off idea haha? From which angle? I think one can consider life itself to be a sort of virus that has infected the universe. The rest of it I find rather lame, no offense, probably because it is infused with a religious perspective that I don't share.
Cee Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 The OP's comment reminded me of the Greek play, Lysistrata. I read it in high school. It's a comedy in which Greek women withhold sex to get the men to stop engaging in war. The strategy works initially and the men are weakened and desperate, but then the men launch a counteroffensive and the men and women battle each other. Eventually, the sexes call a truce and have a celebration that I imagine released a lot of tension for all of them. The play was written in 400 B.C. Satire about the sexes may be as old as civilization itself.
Woggle Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 I don't think feminism is a way to steal credit from asian. The modern day version is simply an anti-male hate movement. These are women who have been scarred by men so they try to brainwash young women into hating the entire male gender. What most radical feminists need is intense therapy instead of society catering to their hatred.

I'm content at the moment to be a caricature of myself. As someone who is fairly well read and relatively well traveled... I urge you not to bet your life savings on my ignorance. When I say something I typically know where I'm wrong and were I'm right in the statement. Your correct in that many times what I type is a mixture of both. Life has very few absolutes.
threebyfate Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Yes, Feminism has gone viral and is unstoppable! Another analogy is that Feminists are like white blood cells finally numerous and strong enough to combat and eject the existing male infection on the human race, as one body. Of course this is a joke just like the OP, so laugh!

sanskrit Posted October 9, 2010 Posted October 9, 2010 Well I will actually address OP's post as opposed to the typical "female outrage at what some random kid on the internet said" replies. In the first Matrix, Smith compared humanity as a whole to a virus, and there are interesting parallels there moreso than some gender based analogy. We do in fact kill our hosts (or at least damage it severely) in the process of mimetic perpetuation. Even in a prolonged period of extreme technological advance, very little of the human race lives within any kind of healthy, sustainable quality of life. Men and women are equally accountable and responsible for what we are and what we will become in the future.
Kamille Posted October 9, 2010 Posted October 9, 2010 I congratulate the OP for his interest in feminism and anti-racism. May I suggest, since the OP is worried about the hegemony of white western feminism, that he research his movie by reading the wonderful : Ain't I a woman: Black Women and feminism by bell hooks? I also imagine "the one" will be a woman of another race who will be strong, articulate and powerful.
