Does anyone find the dating scene in Sydney a bit odd? I just moved here a few months ago and am finding it quite strange… kind of ‘dismissive’ or aloof, or something – can’t quite figure it out, but does anyone feel the same way, or is it just me?

That's pretty much how people are here, dating or not. :p Where are you meeting the people?

Pretty much the same here in canberra (been living here almost 3 years) with one exception that I never ever encountered all my life while living in Sydney (37 years): Getting hit on by heavily overweight middle-age (or older) women on the major decline!! Seriously man I had to get some advice from human resources on one occasion and even they said what I was encountering on one by one of those was sexual harrasment. I go to the gym and look after myself and these type of women expect to can me because I treat them nice, doesn't mean I like you!

That's common in the states as well(at least for me). I've never been to Australia, so I can't say. I always wanted to go there. I grew up in Canada and left at 17, so I don't have that much dating experience there.

I find the dating in Sydney to be quite pleasant actually. I have a hottie waiting for me there.;):bunny:

I was living in Paddington at first, which some people said explained it as the 'eastern suburbs attitude' :-o lol :)

But then I tried online and the first women I met online and I chatted for a few days until she text'ed me on a Saturday morning asking me out for a drink that night, I said yes, I'd love to... then around 3pm she text'ed to say she was taking her kids to her mum's and would text me later where to meet... when I didn't hear from her by about 6:30, I politely text'ed asking where to meet as I'll need some time to find it, being new to sydney and all... and she replied that she had another date already!!!

Anyway, I gave up online, but even when I meet people in person on the street or in a cafe (not in clubs - I don't go there...) and just try and have a friendly chat, most women seem to think every guy is just hitting on them! I was actually at a salsa bar and this woman kept dancing with this other woman's boyfriend, to the point where I could see the girlfriend getting very angry and literally standing next to the dancers, so I went over to ask the non-girlfriend who was dancing with the other woman's boyfriend if she would like to dance (to let the couple have a dance togethe) and she practically yelled at me 'I have a boyfriend'! I felt like saying, well then maybe you should stop dancing with this other woman's boyfriend and obviously upsetting her!

Anyway, I've lived in big cities all over the world - los angeles, new york, amsterdam, havana, mexico city, tokyo, bangkok, etc., but sydney seems to be 'special'! lol :)
