I just pretended I haven't seen the card. And it is too personal to ask. He was really upset on this way back home. Should I call him to explain or better not to. I'm interested in him

But, assuming that he showed you something deliberately and you pretended not to notice for some reason, then there could have been a misunderstanding. Maybe you could make an excuse to call him about something else (something light-hearted) and then as the conversation develops, happen to mention what was going through your mind when he showed you the card. If you feel there has been a misunderstanding, you do need to clarify or he's going to be thinking you don't care.
