When you are in a relationship, how do you know that it's growing and really going somewhere, besides confirming it verbally? How do you know that it is serious?

Anyone? :bunny:

Most of our American fellow LSers are currently asleep :).

If I answer by generalizing each situations:

You just know. You feel safe in the relationship, you feel you can communicate your needs. Both you and your SO actively seek and suggest compromises. You feel accepted. You resolve conflict in ways which deepen your relationship and bond to each other. You allow the relationship to become a priority and you know that the relationship is also a priority for your SO. You actively seek to move the relationship forward by moving in together, committing to each other, etc. And yes, verbal confirmation is an important part of the process: you both verbally agree that you are committed to each other and that the relationship is serious.

One word: actions. If a guy I'm dating keeps saying he sees a future with me but is taking no steps to deepen our commitment then that says it all. My boyfriend says he sees us having a future together but is also taking steps to make that future a reality. That's how I know it's going somewhere.

I suppose security/feeling secure is great place to be in a relationship of any type

measuring any relationship staying power is a hard thing to do been married for the past 11years with a few kids if you consider that staying power then sure but I wouldn't consider it for one second because life can offer up some serious situations on short notice

and 11 years married been together 12years where still only infants:):)

It is serious when he softly whispers he has balls of a bluish shade, but his staying power may not measure up to normal standards.
