saiveca Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 Before anyone freaks out, we are not blood related. My cousin Jim and I didn't grow up together although we did get to know each other at family gatherings. I don't keep in touch with any of my cousins but get along with Jim very well. We can talk about everything, including sex and relationships and everything else. We don't live in the same city and manage to meet up maybe once or twice per season, always because of some family stuff. Last week, Jim made the trip just to hang out with me. I must say I thought it was odd that he would go so much out of his way to see me. We had dinner together and then walked by the lake for a couple of hours. A few days after he left, I received a nice box of chocolates in the mail. It was from Jim! Now I'm really confused. I can't afford to make a mistake here. Would you have any advice for me?
jadedone Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 Yeah I have had a crush on my Uncle's step daughter for years. There's been some mild flirting, and although there is no blood relation I think relatives would disapprove so I have not pursued it. I guess it depends on how your family views it. In my case the cousin grew up within the extended family so it feels more like family even though there is no blood relation.
TaraMaiden Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 Before anyone freaks out, we are not blood related. If you're not blood related, he's not your cousin. if he's your cousin, you ARE blood related. Which is it? First of all, a relationship between cousins is permitted, it's neither illegal, nor taboo. Secondly, you should text him and tell him you feel like an idiot asking, but should you read something into this? Does he "like" you? Ask him, but give nothing away for yourself. If he says "Yes", then you can reply "Oh cool! Me too!" If he replies "No" you can say, "Oh cool! Then thanks for the chockies!"

I think the vast majority of people are still going to have a look of disgust when they hear that, sorry.
TaraMaiden Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 Well, I guess it's their problem; if they have a mind like a gin-trap, then yeah, sure. But hopefully people are a little more open minded about it. Besides, who cares? If they're happy, then I guess others can go whistle Dixie. I'd say........
